S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (Stalker) Thread

So this game was finally announced what 2018? With initial investor looking occurring in 2012-2014 from what I've seen. I can only imagine what kind of dev hell is going on unrelated to the war. Given that whole NFT debacle earlier in 2021.

And apparently these was some beef with the Survarium guys over the early stuff.

They announced the game in 2018, went radio silent, then said how it'll come out in 2021, then switched to 2022, then after the war broke out they fucked off to Checkia (with one dev staying behind and getting his deserved Darwin award), then they said it'll come out in 2023, then switched to 2024. I believe that around 2023 or 2024 is when a leak of the dev build happened (which happened because these dumb fucks didn't password protect their Google Drive, WHICH they were sharing on a discord server, that wasn't even private), and the build showed that the game wasn't even close to a finished state. They THEN dragged said build to GamesCom (while claiming this is the finished and polished demo from the finished project) where it crashed five times for the journalists who managed to play this demo (fuck there's a video of Phill playing this demo and not looking impressed at all), and during this whole mess all the released trailers with the "gameplay" have been pointed out to be fakes, with the AI clearly not being implemented at all, the areas just quickly created for the trailer and so forth.

Fuck I didn't even know about this... what a huge disappointment. I love the Zone and how it operates and feels, I have been looking for a STALKER alternative for a while. The game "Road to Vostok" is in development and seems to be not horrible(updated frequently with photos on dev log) , it has some playable demos at the moment. Plus its being developed by a Finn, and they have been producing some great games.

There's also a game called Pioner that is being developed by the former GSC, A4 and Atomic Heart devs, it's kinda a mix of STALKER and Metro (post apocalypse setting) with a mix of co-op and single player stuff.

I played Clear Sky a while ago after getting it free on GOG and now finally got around to playing through Shadow of Chernobyl.

Very similar impression of the original as I had of Clear Sky - overall like the game and setting but the endgame is absolute trash and is a boring shooting gallery, ends up souring the overall experience.

Where does CoP fit into the overall picture? Is it worth checking out if I thought the other two were pretty good (though flawed)?

Stalker 2 is the definition of a soulless piece of shit that only exists because of it's name and because the company cannot make anything else. Every step of the way this game fucked up everywhere it could, and even if it comes out it will be a disaster. Just let it die already, let the modding community take the reins.

If you liked the pseudo-open world on SoC, CoP has a real one, and it was from before the Ubi-fication of the genre. Personally it's my favorite of the three.

thanks for the tip, I am keeping my eyes on all stalker clones.

COP is a perfectly serviceable game, I'd argue the endgame is even worse than the other two especially considering you need to keep like 4 NPCs alive if you want their best endings.

STALKER 2 IS LOOKING GOOD.png
What went wrong, bros?

I find it adorable how they're talking in Ukranian, all because none of these chucklefucks know English and they cannot speak in Russian because "Reee!!! Russia baaad!!!", also Im least 80% sure half those descriptions of items are from the older STALKER games or have been done with spelling mistakes...oh and the swamp level again seems like its fake, cause the of dogs enemy and you can tell the stuff in the distance is just mat painting.

modded STALKER has kept me entertained any time I have an itch to return to The Zone. The textures may not be impressive any more, but the lighting, shadows, ambience and general atmosphere of these games (especially with the right mods) is fucking impressive. And despite the age of the game the modding scene is still fairly active.

I'm not too much of a graphics slut but a simple search on Youtube shows gameplay footage of modded STALKER with graphics that honestly rival STALKER 2 (Gamma being the newest craze. Shame you have to join a gay discord and go through a billion hoops to even install it)
And even if these mods are on a cobbled together 64bit architecture on an already unstable engine, that shit is likely as stable as the sequel when it comes out if history taught us anything.

And all that shit is free. So the actual base game of STALKER 2 has to either be a narrative masterpiece or provide far better gameplay for it to really compete with what came before. It can't rely on goodwill and sympathy of the Ukraine war to be a success.

TLDR: Everyone knew the earlier trailers were faked. But the graphics "downgrade" starts to look really bad when autistic modders are able to rival your sequel using your base game.

I think thats what they gonna be aiming for, its even more obvious how during back in 2022 during a game con they started pressing on the "Muh poor Ukraine!!! Evul Russia attack us!!!" by showing war footage and etc. Bet ya when this game comes out all its cockwarmers gonna go how "Yer better support dis game or ye a RuzzianOrk supportin-Putin lovin traitor!!!"

I think thats what they gonna be aiming for,
I think it's a mistake on their part.
Only redditors buy shit to virtue signal about having the right opinions. Literally everyone else buys games for the most part based on its merits.
I know their discord is filled to the brim of diehard SLAVA UKRANI types but that's simply not enough to break even.
A pity tbh. I initially was excited for this game. But I've seen too many potentially cool games come out as a fucking mess and I'm not going to give this one a free pass just because MUH HECKIN WAR retards are fanning its radiation filled balls.

I mean when your game was in one controversy after another (no mod support, NFTs,constant release changes, changing prices, leaking a game build that barely worked, crashes during a presentation of the demo, shitting on your Russian audience and NOT giving em refunds, etc), pushing the "Muh waar!! SLAVA UKRANI!!" is the only thing you have left in hopes both Twatter and Reddit morons will be enough to cover the game.
