Saints Row thread

A friend of mine liked the setup of paying student loans. He is a great guy but a little on the "stupid" side if you get what I mean. I explained to him that the setups of S.R at least were taken seriously enough. And this whole setup is just a giant "#relatable" joke.

Its millenial humour at its worst

Well, into the pyre S.R goes now too.

One of the writers bought a waffle iron and couldn't stop thinking about it.

For a supposedly anti-capitalist theme, they sure love to buy stuff and worship it.

wait, are you calling liberals hypocrites?

How dare you?

@CWCissey Who the fuck are those artists? I recognize Slayer, DMX, and Busta Rhymes, and that's it. No oldies in a desert town in the middle of nowhere? I'd expect a country rock station with guys like the Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and so on.
The radio composers are a bunch of faggots. Probably only know Slayer by their parents. Imagine having your brain as a size of a fucking peanut in that matter.

I always hated that "It was always woke" argument because it's a easy cop out and doesn't address why people don't like a certain thing.
Ideologues love to redefine terms to suit their own agenda.

They're trying to turn the word woke from something being so politically correct that it interferes with the enjoyment of the piece of media to anything that may have had a moral that can be considered left wing, such as "unchecked corporate greed is bad".

WTF no, Shaundi was arguably more useful than Pierce in Saints Row 2 and had connections with basically everyone in Stilwater (mainly because she fucked everyone in the city but still), which gave the Saints a lot of leverage. She also hacked into the city's traffic light cameras, which helped wipe out the leader of the Sons of Samedi. If anything, Saints Row The Third's Shaundi was more useless, given that all she did in that game was seethe at everyone over Johnny Gat being dead (despite both of them barely interacting in SR2) and then get kidnapped twice by STAG.
NuShaundi if thats what we're calling her was a product of the game's rewrites. originally the point of her was that both fame and gat's death change her as a character into this darker incarnation. then it all got lost in the shuffle. i still like her, she's a good straight woman and ofc she's hot as shit but it's basically a different, less interesting, less charismatic character overshadowed by asha and kinzie

The map is extremely fucking tiny

They should have gotten Lewis Tan tbh lol.
yea whats even the point. was he refusing their calls?
hahahahohohoniggawhatthefuckisthis
this is small as agents of mayhem map and aom is small but it has a ton of verticality since you can jump around pretty much everywhere except open areas.
apparently theyre gonna expand the map in dlc. insert your shrek "like thats ever gonnae happen" clips in reply to that claim

its super weird choice to make saints row a desert game. A) because deserts in open world crime games are usually boring, only san andreas got it right by making the area small and a transitional area between san fierro and las venturas. just cause 2 had the worst desert of any open world game i think 2) saints rows theming of urban street gangs doesnt really fit with desert, usually the gangs there are mexican or nazis not black, asian or mixed race like open world crime games usually go for D) deserts are very bland when it comes to mission design and never ever get used except to pad the map itself. going back to san andreas, how many missions were actually in the desert? and how many do you actually remember? area 69 doesnt count, that was essentially an interior for most of it

They sing karaoke. And Kevin air guitars with a waffle iron.
Damn that's wholesome and random af. next youll tell me there's a gun that fires exploding llama pancakes and teh epic muffin lazorz of d00m

I saw this, and now you fuckers have to see this too.

>tfw they spent more time doing this than fixing a buggy game
>now thinking that they delayed this for over six months to add that in the last minute

I saw this, and now you fuckers have to see this too.

I love how absolutely committed they are in thinking people would like these characters unironically. I've never seen something this hideously tone deaf.

They saw the singing credits in SR4 and thought this would be the successor. Absolutely delusional.

They know people are still going to buy this game regardless how it launches.
I don't believe that's even true anymore. Games usually sell like shit on the Epic store and if the state of Volition is really as bad as I'm reading around here there's a very real chance it could just die there and not make it to Steam at all. Add to that that Saints Row isn't one of the big players that will shift copies regardless by sheer inertia like current year sports game x or current year realistic shooter y and the insane numbers publishers set as sales goals there is a very real chance this might actually completely tank. Probably slightly optimistic here and it will just manage to scrape by and be forgettable as fuck but I have been seeing some amount of pushback against shit like that and we'll see where it goes.

I love how absolutely committed they are in thinking people would like these characters unironically. I've never seen something this hideously tone deaf.

They were told, loudly and repeatedly, that no one liked these characters. Even the people defending them were relying on the entirely theoretical (and now proven wrong) idea that they would evolve into stronger characters over the course of the game. The choice to leave them as-is was not merely tone deaf, it was frankly stupid - particularly for a developer that desperately needs this game to succeed.

That “want to come with me to the local orphanage to donate all these excess happy meal toys we shot and killed a bunch of people for?” line made me want to die inside. They really are trying to make the characters out to be 100% innocent that are just “striking back against the unfair world” crap, Christ….
If the writer had even a modicum of self awareness, that line would've been played for dark comedy. I can see the characters being a satire of new age of entitled zoomer "activists" who explain away their criminal activities by "muh oppression." If you don't want to demonize them, just have Bowtie be the straight man of the group, reacting with horror and revulsion at the horrible shit you pull throughout the game. He can still be your typical soy latte drinking college dreg but he would be more tethered to reality than the others in that he doesn't believe that being an oppressed minority justifies slinging coke and murdering pedestrians.

Co-op doesn't even work properly. Who is this game even for?
I was going to say "game journalists", but man, if not even their goofy characters and #relatable writing is enough to grab a bunch of GOTY-level praise from them, this game truly must be dead in the water. Unless that Epic exclusivity money was really a massive amount, I expect some bad news coming down from the Deep Silver suits to the Volition code monkeys.

>CAPATALISM AMIRITE?
>STUDENT LOANS
>WAFFLES
>HASHTAG HASHTAG

Everything about this game feels like it was made for a subsect of silicon valley hipsters who ignore the shit and drug needles in the streets of San Fran. Nothing about this game appeals to anyone not in that bubble. Tone deaf is the common phrase, but this is tuned to a tone only an up his own ass Californian would be able to pick up. It has no appeal to anyone outside of that subsect of America. To take one of the things they like to bitch about. They gentrified Saints Row.
