Saints Row thread

I don't hate Gat out of Hell. The time-based story progression is annoying and the endings are lazy and dumb, but the gameplay is fine. It's pretty much the same as 4.
I understand hating 4 as well as GooH but I don't understand thinking only the latter crossed the line, which some people seem to think.

There's a frightening level of disconnect when it comes to hipster power fantasies like WD2 and this game. Committing violent crimes is A-OK but don't you DARE make people have to pay student loans or misgender someone. Granted, your character does some pretty heinous shit in the original series but the writer had the decency to acknowledge that your character is a violent thug. You're never really in the right morally speaking because at the end of the day, you're criminal fighting against other criminals.
If the Saints Row reboot leaned into that hypocrisy, it could have made a funny game. Imagine a landwhale with dyed hair machine gunning a group of stereotypical Mexican cartel gang members while spouting feminist slogans about being against Latino machismo? Problem is that kind of humor takes talent to pull off and not one of these designers have that kind of talent.

It wasn't bad, but the world felt pretty empty seeming as there was only a handful (or maybe just 1?) building you could go into. Plus there was a complete lack of customisation and music, I mean you're in hell, surely that's the perfect location for a metal themed station?

Oy my god i thought for a second “this is the strawman old fan character that they put in to parrot criticism of their game” then i saw it was a girl and i was like: “oh…

they actually thought thatd make an endearing character
That's an antagonist from Watch Dogs 2, dumbass.

She's also the butt of the joke. Self-aggrandising, lecherous, greasy and fuelled by her own brand of righteousness. Her depiction makes me think Ubisoft was secretly based.

GTA IV's LCHC is not metal; it's hardcore punk.
If you mean TLAD's add-on featuring Max Cavalera, it's mostly been-there-done-that safe bets that anyone into metal would have already heard before and are probably tired of. They're not bad songs by any means, but Volition was doing more than just licensing the hits.
I thank Volition for getting me into The Black Dahlia Murder & Chimaira. I can't really thank Rockstar for reminding me about Bathory or Sepultura.

inb4 someone reminds me of Sleeping Dog's metal station, don't. That station sucked balls.
It's like they intentionally set out to get the mediocre songs from the artists chosen. Choosing "Shock" over "Resurrection" or "Demanufacture" from Fear Factory or whatever the hell they chose from Machine Head & Devildriver over songs like "Wolves" and "Clouds Over California" respectively boggles the mind. Roadrunner records has good music; showcase it.

They still had a story to tell with the hunt for Dex. The Dex vs Boss storyline is enough to spin a new game out of it.

Because SR2 was OTT the way the GTA 3D era was. It was a spiritual successor to those 6 games (yes six, no one ever counts GTA Advance) given how R* had rebooted the series into a much more ""mature"" and ""gritty/realistic"" direction.
3 was OTT the same way Howard Stern was OTT; to provoke a reaction and sell via shock jock tactics.

What identity? It's still the same one from 1 & 2 only riddled with more immature humor.
Look, I'm not against the idea of people who like 3, but SR3 was not breaking new ground by having giant purple dildos to hit NPCs with.

I feel like the reason Volition did metal different than Rockstar is because they actually got more popular bands at the time while Rockstar only got well-known bands from the 80s and 90s. That's one of the reasons why I loved Saints Row 2 in that aspect because they picked songs that would've been popular at the time while Rockstar picked songs that would fit the tone of the game. Also, forgot Sleeping Dogs had a metal station (only remembered
that one Killswitch Engage song) since I only listened to Ninja Tune radio the most during my time with the game.

When they say "feel dated" they don't mean "It would seem out of date and uncool" they mean "That might result in the expression of a problematic idea, we cant allow that"
More like outdated that it feels like satire at this point.

Fortnite and its consequences have been a disaster for the gaming community.
I dont remember and dont give a shit enough to remember the term for the current gaming practices of turning the game less as an actual game and more a skinner box designed for addictio-

Live service model.
There.
I have good news for you

It seems there is no DRM in game
The DRM is that its so shit I regret pirating the game in the first place.
That's actually fucking good DRM.

How long until Volition gets shut down?
Depends on the sales numbers, the game just launched so we won't know how poorly it'll perform yet (the poor review scores will certainly deter some people). I just wonder if they'll last long enough to get all that expansion pass content out in time or if Deep Silver will have to comp the poor bastards that got it.

Did Agents of Mayhem kill Volition?

It really does depend on how well the console versions sell, since the PC sales will be complete shit due to Volition's hideously retarded attempt to shove it on Epic. That alone would kill a lot of sales just due to being on a far smaller platform.

Since even the paid shills are calling it shit, my guess is it'll sell like shit though. Especially since the retarded consoomer base for the IP is a lot smaller than they think it is. I feel like they are overselling their pre-order numbers though, likely as a way to cope. Especially since odds aren't too bad for refunds to ensue due to how actually buggy the game is.

Did Agents of Mayhem kill Volition?
No, sadly. I think people saying this will sink them are being a bit too presumptive. It certainly couldn't have helped, but they have a whole promised DLC cycle and they said pre-orders were above expectations, to say nothing of the Epic paycheck. Getting shuttered depends as much on Deep Silver's desire to kill them as it does their actual sales.

That being said, I'd kill to be a fly at the wall in Volition right now. Wonder what the atmosphere is. Righteous indignation? Depression? Panic mode backpedaling as they start rewriting the DLCs and adding The Penetrator in as a DLC weapon?

Hope we get some salty devs on Twitter soon.
