Saints Row thread

Here's 30 minutes of gameplay for your (dis)pleasure. There's no commentary in case your worried about listening to some idiot try and hype this.

It looks..... Fine.. I guess..

But fuck that big "Ultimate" in the middle of the screen during shooting, holy crap.. Put that on the side or maybe work into the the UI..
Yeeeeeeeeep, that's a bland game. Not bad enough to be a spectacle, not good enough to be worthwhile. The city looks empty, lifeless, and very brown. I'll bet it'll be on Game Pass within a few months after launch, and discs will pop up at Five Below in a year.

100% agreed that things have gotten so much worse but WD2 really did not miss out on the Orange Man bad screeching even at that early stage (though funnily enough it was released just days after his election) - Thruss was a blatantly obvious Trump analogue.
Including a mission where you discover him running a ballot machine hacking ring to rig the election in his favor. I believe this extends to a part where you have to stop his employees from destroying hard drives that contain evidence of this.

I kinda want this to kill Volition out of mercy.

GTA: Liberty City Stories had a similar mission. Minus the hacking.

A mediocre game is worse than a bad game. This game just reeks of mediocrity. Even Agents of Mayhem had something with its 80s action figure cartoon aesthetic.

Even so, they didn't learn from AoM.

I'm honestly surprised they didn't get a deal with Microsoft to use Game Pass as a cushion for the game, I figure that Xbox could use all the third party games it can get to try to make up for Starfield's absence ("There's always next year" is getting a little old for Xbox at this point, but that's another story).

Saints Row IV was on Game Pass for a bit. I think Volition will use Game Pass to fall back if sales or reception isn't up to their expectations.

Considering which sided actually resorted to fucking with ballot machines, that’s kind of funny.

It's more than a political issue that there is no male or female options. Removing male and female options means that every character has a male skeleton no matter if they are male or female. What this means is that you will see female characters only having male mannerisms and a male frame because they share the same skeleton and animations. it's like volition is trying to make every character as androgynous as possible.
So what you’re saying is that it’s like this famous screen cap post from 4chan, but come to life?

That's assuming they'll last long enough to do that before going bankrupt or shut down by their corporate overlords.

They barely survived AOM, and Saints Row fans aren't much of a cushion after Volition made their contempt for the old games clear.

As bad as the story and characters were in Watch Dogs 2 at least it had a fun open world to fuck around in. Plus the fact that it was a Ubi game and part of the Watch Dogs series made it easier to stomach the SJW themes. It's worth buying for $5 used so that Ubi doesn't get any of your money. The new Saints Row won't even have a decent open world judging by the Reddit post above and the themes are a complete betrayal of the series.

Don't forget Red Faction: Armageddon. That game came out 11 years ago, and killed the whole Red Faction franchise, despite Guerilla being pretty good. I don't even think that game was a laughing stock, I just remember hearing it wasn't worth playing, and that was that. So I checked the Steam reviews, sorted by negative, and the general consensus seems to be that it's just a very dull, linear game that crashes a lot. The good reviews seem to be largely from people nostalgic for it, because why else would you overlook the absolutely enormous problem of needing a password-protected beta branch to even just start a new game? Or just cheap the fuck out by only needing a single set of animations or clothing instead of duplicating them for male/female.
