Saints Row thread

Color me curious about why, after the stunning failure of AOM, Volition is actively trying to alienate Saints Row fans?

I just think the sensible idea would be to play it as safe as possible, not radically alter the series' identity and tone.

Going from gangsters to a "millennial power fantasy" paying off student loans is simply astounding.

New House Hexagon, 43 minutes of him talking about Saints Row: The Third

It's a pretty good video with some interesting points about how the plot had some visions about the storyline, but then just squandered it all in favor of an over-the-top extravagant soirée that feels like it was designed for zoomers, but it came out when zoomers were young children, but it was also full of sex stuff and had a whole gang where all the women dressed like hookers, so, most zoomers wouldn't even be allowed to play it

So Volition's Principle Technical Artist left. Ordinarily this wouldn't mean much, but he's apparently worked with Volition since 1999 and suddenly now decides to leave for a different studio.

Maybe I'm reading too much, but I'd say he has little faith in the company.
Writing's on the wall for Nu-Saints, series ain't exactly Mario or GTA, and after years without a follow up to SR4, this reboot would most likely only matter to fans of the series, fans that they chose to alienate as loud as possible since the beginning

My dude here is jumping ship before it crashes

I hadn't even considered the release gap, Saints Row would practically be like a new IP to modern audiences.

For their sake, they better hope such audiences has a hankering for a contemporary millennial power fantasy.

even then there's still a lot of nostalgia, and it's not like the earlier games are unavailable. which means there are a lot of people around who know better or can find out if they want to.
most zoomers are mainstream casuals and pop culture opportunists, if there's loud enough noise with "x is shit" they will just regurgitate it. that's why pissing off an established fanbase is always a shit idea, at best you can try have them ignore it (still means most of them won't bother because another game is screaming louder for their attention, but they won't outright disliked just to fit in).

so a standard video of him complaining about new stuff being bland and him giving safe /v/-tier talks about soy?
it's a joke, i saw the video.
also consoles kind of have a issue within the connection for the remastered edition because you can be invited to co-op modes on the OG version but on the remaster it doesn't work and it tends to crash whenever it checks to see if your profile options allows you to be invited for a game by buddies.
same thing with the epic remaster, co-op and whored mode doesn't work, while OG SR it works because p2p, fucking hell...
by the way Agents of Mayhem remastered when? here's hope volitionniggers finally add a mp mode to a hero shooter with tons of heroes....

New trailer
It looks fucking worse now than it did earlier. Especially since their own gameplay model and cutscenes look like they haven't gotten better than SR4 or even SR3. And yes, it's basically just a dishonest reboot and theft of the first game's plot, but with Woke Boss replacing Julius and with horrible eye-raping bootlegs.

I mean, I guess you hate money Volition. Have fun chapter 11'ing you absolutely incompetent fucks.

What made Saints Row work, IMO, was that it took the goofiness and dick jokes from the older GTA games and ran with it while keeping the same sandbox gameplay and story elements. When GTA decided it had to become this super serious, realistic gangster simulation style franchise (that put every mission on rails), Saints Row said "fuck it, you can drive a plane into the dude's house to kill him and sequence break the whole mission, hell yeah that sounds awesome." Add in all the character customization and it was the best sandbox environment around; I still put SR2 in my top 10 games of all time. Even the slight cringiness of adding Skrillex and autotuned pimps into SR3 was more of a "haha, Family Guy cutaway jokes" that was ok because the gameplay and true sandbox element was still fine.

Whatever the fuck this game is going to be is so fucking generically gay and "how do you do fellow Fortnite kids also Black Lives Matter," that if you told me it was some elaborate joke I'd rather believe that. I don't even want to pirate this pile of donkey shit.

All of the 'character on top of a car shooting other cars' tells me there's going to be a lot of the railroaded shit.

I'm gonna pass on this. The characters are ugly, I don't like Millennial "woe is me I want everything now for no effort" bullshit this game seems to cater to, and it looks like someone barfed neon onto everything.

It's going to be people who don't understand the original trying to vomit neon on the original and make it quirky thinking that's the formula.

I'm not giving Volition kudos for sticking to their vision since it sucks donkey ass and alienates SR fans in general.
That’s I think the point of this new SR game. The new Saints could never survive in the first three games due to the fact that they were never meant to be serious in nature, or “politically correct”.

They could have done what GTA V did and try the latter, but they don’t have the creativity, let alone the actual direction to do so since most of the original cast that worked on Volition are leaving.
