Saints Row thread

A big thing with Saints Row 2 that I seem to recall was fans being like "Oh, it's fun unlike dour and serious GTA IV!"

And a part of me wonders if that's why they went full pants on head retarded with Saints Row 3 and 4 because they thought that's what people wanted when really all they meant was that there were more fun things to do in the world.
I think that's really what happened. They took the enjoyment of goofiness as the go ahead to lean heavily into it rather than keep a similar tone.

Now it's just trying to be SAINTS ROW BUT NEW, FRESH AND HIP YO.

That trailer is really, REALLY bad. Zoomer humor is complete assrape of the ears.
You really do have a lot of retarded takes, but the simple fact is Ubisoft games sell in the millions, sometimes cracking 10's of millions. THAT should tell you that people actually buy and play their games.

Get off game forums and actually look at sales data and talk to actual people before you look like a bigger gamer culture retard. Ubisoft caters to the person who plays games but doesn't spend all their waking moments knee deep in gamer culture (aka the dreaded "normie"), which believe it or not is the vast majority of people who play games since they've gone mainstream.
Ubisoft expects lower 2022-2023 sales after missing the mark in 2021:

2021: 17% YoY profit drop, possible hostile takeover looming:

Talent leaving in droves

"millions" may buy ubisoft, but ubisoft is far from healthy. The company has been limping along the last few years and its future is in doubt. The Ubi formula has gotten stale enough that normies are not going to sustain it anymore.
Half-Life 2 was bundled with AMD(ATi at the time) cards more than a year before it even launched(because of the delay). Plenty of new and popular games have been bundled with graphics cards in the past so that's not a sign of anything really.
The difference here is HL2 was A) good, and B) had a developer and publisher behind it that wasnt huffing copium farts from the woke tank. Oh, and C) was a sequel to a well received and beloved game, which SR hasnt had in over a decade.

Recent bundled games include the revolutionary halo infinite, battlefield 2042, and fallout 76. Good games these days dont get bundled out of the gate.

Well the sales data didnt lie. SR2 hit 3.4 million total copies, SR3 (on the same platforms) hit 5.5 million. That's why they chased the tail with SR4 and GooH.

Saints Row 3 honestly feels like a game that tries very hard to forget its roots
This has been Volition's MO since that game, yes. If I remember correctly SR2 was made by a different team or studio head or something, and the guy who took over after clearly did not understand and does not like SR2's tone and design. They've done multiple interviews where they've said that they don't like the serious moments, and that WACKY COCK BATS AND GOOFY DANCING LMAO is what Saints Row should always be.
Oh, it's fun unlike dour and serious GTA IV!"
This was definitely a major cause for the change. Volition is retarded though, because it's more funny to have a serious scene play out with your character in a hot dog suit than it is for your character to be riding gimpmobiles around the city while exchanging lolswacky quips with their partner.
when really all they meant was that there were more fun things to do in the world.
This is also a major reason why SR3 fucking blows dick. There's nothing fun to discover or see in this open world game. Saints Row 2 is packed full of interesting locales, Easter eggs, stores, weapons, hit targets, Steelport has none of that. The only thing you can find in the open world is boxes of blow up dolls.

Oh, also the pedestrias in 3 are massively dumbed down and lack any kind of personality. They just stand around. Peds in 1 and 2 are very fun to engage with and fuck around with because they have a much wider range of reactions.
Now it's just trying to be SAINTS ROW BUT NEW, FRESH AND HIP YO.
This game just proves that Volition really are the copycats they tried desperately not to be called for the past decade. They copied street crime gang games when they were popular, they copied Overwatch when it was popular, and now they're trying to get the Zoomer Fortnite audience while it's popular. I don't feel bad for them going under because they have no soul or originality.

I never said it was? In fact I flat out said Ubisoft can't handle their financials worth a damn.

But that doesn't mean people *don't* play/don't give a shit about/don't jerk themselves off over Ubisoft games which is specifically why I mentioned engagement with Far Cry 6.

Just because the games are no longer profitable doesn't mean that they are not selling or nobody cares about them. And it has nothing to do with Ubisoft going "stale". It has everything to do with spending way too much on development and marketing from the sounds of things.

Also I just want to point out that the game industry in general is far from healthy. So many studios and publishers are getting sold off and consolidated, am I to believe that absolutely nobody is playing games at all because of this? Or is the more likely conclusion that the push into 4K and overly cinematic presentation on top of overbloated marketing has become extremely costly and is effecting the industry as a whole?

Just because something doesn't make money doesn't mean people don't buy it, it can easily mean the business is ran like shit.
It could also mean that the gaming forum's opinions about people being bored of ubisoft and their modern anti-fan leanings are actually correct, and are driving people away from the product.

The fanbase is the root ball of the product tree, you kill that you eventually kill the whole structure.

If you can add something interesting to the formula or do it extremely well I personally don't see an issue with iteration on another group's formula. SR 1 and most certainly 2 were just that, neither were truly original but just competent to good takes on the same genre.

I'll eat crow with a smile on if this next game is actually good but I'm not expecting it. The competence isn't there.

Recent bundled games(last year) from AMD was Resident Evil 8 and Far Cry 6. But yeah, bundled therefore bad.

My point is that you can fault nuSR for a lot of things but being bundled with a graphics card is not really one of them.

But the reports don't reflect that.

And before you say it's all lies for the investors, why didn't they lie when Breakpoint floundered?

The upside to all this is that Saints Row reboot could still sell, and Volition could still be tanked simply because modern developers/publishers are fucking retarded and they might spend too much to develop it.

If Ubisoft games are unpopular, why is Rainbow Six Siege a consistently popular shooter even years after launch?

Or why Assassin's Creed titles gets on the top slots after release? Popularity does not always equal quality.

SR3 also scaled down the difficulty. It's a cakewalk compared to 1 or 2. It's a casual experience meant for people with limited attention spans.

Even so, I don't remember much from 3 despite the streamlined approach. Maybe Pierce and Shaundi but that's it. And all that purple.
No joke, I once beat SR3 in one sitting. I don't remember a damn thing about the game beyond Professor Genki and that Hulk Hogan voiced a Luchador, but that's a thing I did once.

God I want them to remake SR2. Hell, even just rerelease it as is on modern consoles, it'd still probably be better than whatever Nu-SR is

I mean something is clearly funky there, as their call for a lower 2022 was sent out the same day as those positive articles about FC6, and valhalla "led best sales ever" in the same year ubisoft completely missed their sales targets. Sure looks like those positive articles could be fluff pieces, or running on pure copium, or it could just be that a single good selling game cant prop up ubisoft. Or a combo of all three.

I doubt Saints row: self own will sell particularly well, given the utter lack of hype, likely even 2 million copies is both way out of reach and would still somehow lose money.
If Ubisoft games are unpopular, why is Rainbow Six Siege a consistently popular shooter even years after launch?
Because RS:S is a competitive game that filled a niche that was desperate for a new title, and isnt the usual ubisoft radio tower sandbox.

You know its possible for a publisher to release a few gems among the sludge, right? I didnt say they never made good games.
Or why Assassin's Creed titles gets on the top slots after release? Popularity does not always equal quality.
Never said it did. And despite taking "top slots" ubisoft's earning dont lie, the company isnt making money the way they should. Almost like "being No. 1" doesnt mean you are breaking sales records or even selling super well, as being number 1 in a month of no real big releases or a bunch of garbage isnt nearly as hard. See also: halo infinite.

ubisoft is far from healthy. The company has been limping along the last few years and its future is in doubt. The Ubi formula has gotten stale enough that normies are not going to sustain it anymore.
Ubisoft has also adopted the DIE agenda after several #MeToo controversies. Guillemot created a diversity office that only answers to him and nominated some woman at the helm of it. This is exactly what happened to EA when they made the diversity politburo lead by Laura Miele.
I believe that Ubisoft is dead.

valhalla "led best sales ever" in the same year ubisoft completely missed their sales targets.
Or it may just be that Ubisoft has completely unrealistic sales targets.

It seems like the exact type of company to be delusional enough to expect GTA V sales instead of their normal sales, which is probably why they are in their current position.

Never said it did. And despite taking "top slots" ubisoft's earning dont lie, the company isnt making money the way they should
Which was never the fucking point I was making in the first place.

Almost like "being No. 1" doesnt mean you are breaking sales records or even selling super well,
But it does mean that it is selling

It's honestly baffling that people can see a game has shipped/sold millions of copies and think that means nobody played it. You're all almost as delusional as the publishers at this point thinking if something isn't GTA V it means it was completely ignored.

Hey, spergs, this is the Saints Row thread. Go make an Ubisoft thread if that's what gets you off, but STFU about it here.

Anyway, after careful consideration, I have decided that SR actually ended at the end of SR2. None of what has come since remotely deserves the name. This new thing can't even get the mechanics of first two games right, much less the look, feel and attitude. I sincerely hope it crashes and burns and takes fucking Volition down with it.

If anyone didn't need anymore evidence that this game is going to flop, AMD is now going to start throwing free copies of the game with their GPUs.

To be fair I got Morrowind free with a Graphics card back in the day so not every game that comes with them is bad.

Saints Row 5 can suck my cock tho

The Boss customization demo is available on Epic Games Store.
Yeah... it's less grating.

But the action scenes make the shit I could do in SR3 look tame, and that makes it stupidly cringe. I'm also not going on Epic ever you fucking idiots.
