Guys, I'm having some kind of weird Mandela Effect here. There's a song that I'm absolutely sure that was in either Saint's Row 2 or 3. I don't know the band or (apparently) the title. I don't remember much about it, but it was a sort of hard rock song and the chorus went something like this:
Tick-tock and don't stop rockin' to the bang bang boogie
You don't stop rockin'
And even if the crowd gets out of pocket to the bang bang boogie
You don't stop rockin'

I cannot find any reference to this song ANYWHERE. The first line sounds similar to something in Rapper's Delight, but that song isn't in Saint's Row, the second line doesn't match, and the music doesn't sound right. Maybe it's a tribute or remix or something though? There are a couple more recent rap songs called Bang Bang Boogie, but those aren't it either. I haven't gone line by line and listened to every song in the sound tracks, but I've looked them over and nothing looks similar.

Does anybody remember this or was it some kind of weird fever dream?

Shit, that's the one. Guess I Mandela Effect'd the game/genre, but not the song itself. And I guess I can understand how I got the game wrong, considering.

Still though MAYBE people will make some interesting mods with this? We can only hope.

Meanwhile I'm just sitting here hoping some hero leaks the Saints Row 2 source code so the community can finish what Idol Ninja started.
 
We have a solid gameplay code to work with now, problem is we have a severe lack of coding autists or anyone who will want to deal with this franchise after being burned so much. The best one died of cancer. I'll bet someone will just rebuild Agents Of Mayhem with this, or make their own faggy SR game that gets C&D'd by deep silver because they were retarded enough to advertise it before releasing the files for it. I can literally just write fanfiction and game narrative rewrites here that sound more appealing and appeasing to us fans of 1-2 than anything that will ever be done with this IP again, at least for the next decade.

Saints Row died because beginning with 3, the writer became retarded or held back. This weakened the importance of enemy factions and how they were tied in to the story. Their influence means nothing, the mission design is all over the place in 3, relegated to literal side tier optional missions essentially instead of focusing on one or multiple faction missions. Its all random hamfists of minigames, all of the boss fights are shallow, all of the shootouts and fights cutscenes and gameplay wise are not as interesting as 1 and 2 where there were heavier stakes like having Shaundi's ex hold her hostage, tricking a guy to crush his girlfriend in his monster truck, Johnny Gat burying a man alive who disrespected a funeral of a loved one he lost, betrayals in 1, Carlos being tortured with road burn ending with you having to pit him out of his misery. In 4 it is so non-serious and a non-threat because you have prototype tier powers now and its all just about the silly aliens while also being a lazy rehash of 3 and areas of 1/2 setting-wise. Its fun, but it isn't really Saints Row which I see as a successor of sorts to ideas found in GTA San Andreas and classic gta. SR1-2 bleed the good designs and amp it up for modern hardware. If you wanna know what happened to GTA III, VC, and SA they all lived on through Saints Row 1 and 2, and people see the clone as a negative but ironically I feel like because they clearly understood what made gta fun and satisfying they were able to get a formula and design not even IV, V and soon VI could replicate since they were scaled back for realism and shallow old reliable game design. 1 and 2 are addicting, especially 2. In 3 it is held back as the story missions are mediocre, the characters for the mostpart are forgettable, and now the core of saints row and what made it fun is lesser. See, what made SR genius was the way you had some freedom. You could do whacky activities that were chaotic and gave you rewards, it was like downtime in between the more serious story missions focused on controlling territory and rising to the top. There was genuine GROWTH. In SR3 you are immediately given a high class penthouse, which could be fun but it cheapens the idea storywise because now they use the saints being popular as a lazy excuse to let you do whatever you want which falls into the trap of having too much freedom which feels burdensome or pointless. There is no real struggle with the saints being this worldwide brand anymore and it takes a bad ending just to get a really good line delivery from Killbane about the saints whereas in 1 and 2 you had many memorable antagonists that posed a threat to you and your gang. In SR1 gangs would literally pull drivebys on you sometimes and the ammo pool was limiter and expensive, which made things pretty unforgiving but annoying. My point about villains and story would be how much more dramatic 1 and 2 were. It was, at its core; a story about a criminal gang and all of the baggage with it, with some silly aspects added in through the wit of characters like Johnny. The gameplay tied everything in a near perfect bow. All of it crashed and burned in 3, and then it was flanderized as if the silliness were some defining pillar of the series when it was only an aspect. All things in the duology are done incredibly well, and time has been very kind to them since even younger people may still cite SR2 as one of their all-time favorites.

I pretty much agree with what you've said but also layered clothes were in 2 and not in 3. So that's another point for your argument.
I mainly focused on the core gameplay structure and story, but this is also helpful. I think the reboot brought it back but the game is unplayable slop.
For me, the franchise fell off when you went from being a literal psychopath to a "puckish rogue."
This is essentially how I feel about the depiction of the Playa after 2. I would have preferred if we had a chance to become another ruthless gang leader like the ones we fought before in a sequel.

Even if Volition is like Shogo, dead and six feet under, Deep Silver is still the lawful owner of it's intellectual property, and they'd go after any project that attempted to fix the game by using any of those leaked resources.

As it stands right now, what Kobraworks is doing is the closest we'll ever get to a properly working Saints Row 2 on PC. The old fashioned reverse engineering of the executable and injecting patch code to it at runtime, much like SilentPatch does to fix the GTA Trilogy. We won't get the DLC's, we probably won't be able to fully fix all the random crashing that SR2's PC port suffers from, but unless Deep Silver gets dementia and decides to publish Mike Watson's work to the public under an MIT license, this is the best we can hope for.

Meh, Microsoft tried to claim that bullshit too when the source code of some flavor of Windows NT Server leaked years ago. "Bluh bluh bluh you can't even look in the direction of that code or we'll claim you tainted Linux with it!" Everybody lol'd, practically nobody bothered looking (we all knew Windows was shit long before any source code proof was provided), and the few who did lol'd again saying how shitty the code was.

If memory serves it wasn't even helpful for the emulator writers of the time. I think the only thing of significance it confirmed was that Microsoft had indeed shamelessly ripped off all of Windows' TCP/IP stack from either FreeBSD or NetBSD (I forget which).

One incredibly dedicated person who can never touch the final project just needs to decompile the original binaries and document exactly what is going on in every single facet of the game code, then another incredibly dedicated person needs to write entirely fresh code based solely on that documentation and release it as open source software. Should be done by end of Q2 2025

It will never happen that way, as a from-scratch re-implementation, and it isn't the only potential way to do things.

The classic example of 'clean room reverse engineering' is Compaq implementing the IBM PC BIOS. That involved one guy analyzing assembler code (which was printed in the manuals) for the BIOS code (which ended up fitting in less than 8KB in x86 binary) and writing documentation based on that. Then a team of 17 others re-implemented and tested based on that documentation. It cost the company about a million bucks, in early 1980s money. That is not ever going to happen with any game from the past 25 years, no matter how much concentrated autism were brought to bear.

Beyond just binary patching, the only way that you'd get real advancements would be for a project to do what's been done with N64 games, to provide a structure of scripts which can disassemble/de-compile the game executables to assembly or preferably C code, that can be assembled or compiled to something identically either at the functional or binary level with the existing software. At that point, as long as you don't distribute any of that de-compiled code, it would be very difficult for the copyright owner to challenge your project. But, as long as the code the process produces is consistent, you can at that point start seriously making improvements, because you can start swapping out individual functions.

Even then, people probably wouldn't actually bother doing things clean-room (one person documenting individual functions and others actually re-implementing and improving them), and that could certainly be legally challenged as in the absence of any documentation separation process it's pretty obvious that anyone writing replacement code- so that Super Mario 64 can run on Windows, for example- looked at the disassembled existing code and just iterated and improved on it, but most of these projects seem to be getting away with it. Even though they're dealing with fucking Nintendo.

I fucking hate this song. Ultor FM/Gen X would be the perfect radio station had it not been for this one song. It doesn't sound like any of the other songs on the station, it's just this awful combination of being boring and irritating. The worst part is that its twice as long as the average Ultor FM track so everytime you try to switch back to Ultor this song is still droning on and on. If this game ever gets remastered (which it probably never will but I can dream) I am begging for this song to be pulled out and replaced with something else. Normally I'd complain about removed licensed music but I'd happily make an exception if this shit song got removed

Can't you just use My Mixtape or whatever it was called to make a station with all the songs you like and skip that one?

The one song I dislike is Deftones from their worst era (SNW), short version of Hole In The Earth. One of Chino's worst final vocal performancss I can think of all come from the release version of SNW. Mostly due to how weird his voice is, doesn't sync up at all with the instrumentals. Everyone in the band hated each other, they removed great SNW demo tracks over differences etc. A disaster lol.
Just listen to how better the Bob Ezrin demo is lol... those drums are so crisp, the guitars aren't drowned out and suffocated, the audio mixing is as it should be.
I put this version into my game just to not hear the awful vocal performance again. And to get the superior version obviously.
