Saints Row thread

iirc because matches of PTP were shorter than other modes, you could earn money faster to buy stupid crap for your character. Owning a pimp coat and platinum jewelry was like a right of passage since it told everyone else you had no life and grinded for hours.
I miss those days where you could unlock cosmetics through progression. Although I largely ignored that feature after a couple trips and an achievement.
If you didn't lick the door all the way until the end, you're wrong.
You KNOW IT, bro! That was the best Christmas special I've seen yet.

Saints Row 1's multiplayer leaderboards are discontinued, thereby affecting Ranked matches and the corresponding achievements. This happened last month.

So much for multiplayer being the future. Though the game is 15 years old and companies can barely support a game for 2 years nowadays so I shouldn't be surprised.
I'm surprised it lasted after the GameSpy server closure. Many 360 games survived, I can't say the same about PS3 games. I guess they use different servers for Xbox Live.

The gang (clan) feature in Saints Row was removed long before this. I will miss playing Blinged Out Ride or Protect the Pimp. Speaking of multiplayer, has anybody tried Saints Row the Third's Whored Mode?

They're still going to push it and you know it. It's a lot easier to shit out that than it is to put effort and design events for a single player mode.

I'll admit my dislike of multiplayer focused games with shitty short SP ones mostly stems from my disinclination to play them FOR the multiplayers, but as they continue to keep nuking servers to keep things at Year 0 and force you to get new games it validates my main purchasing logic.

Now is the time with absolutely no GTA VI coming out any time soon.

I just hope it doesn't pander to the woke or anything stupid like that. Just give me a crime game that gets a few chuckles out of me that isn't trying so fucking hard to be a movie please.

And for the love of fucking god, when you do your online mode (because they will) do NOT add a ton of military/future shit.

SR3 was the first game I remember to be especially woke, with putting gender on a slider and being oddly PC for what it was. Sooooo I wouldn't count on the series suddenly being based

I don't need it to be based. Just more SR1 and SR2 would be nice.

Hell, even if it is woke I wouldn't care as long as the shit is fun.

I remember the gender slider being for big/small dicks and big/small boobs, not some genderfluid they pronouns thing. Granted the game allows you to wear any type of clothing and doesn't lock hairstyles and whatnot to male or female, but I wouldn't call that "woke" as much as giving the player all the customization options.

I don't remember the game's plot having any woke undertones neither, with the exception of maybe some girl power stuff, it was just very outlandish in its portrayal of the Saints and the MC.

A reboot would actually be a great idea to bring Saints Row back to relevancy. Where would one go after Saints Row IV? It would also fill the void of an open world crime game like GTA. I have no doubt Volition will manage their humor, customization and freedom of choice with Saints Row. I would like them to add PvP again. And have the tone of SR1.

I want it to be comic booky/cartoony as fuck like the original. I like my gangs to be super color coded and drive specific types of cars. And I want there to be theming.

That's one of the worst things about newer GTA's. It lost all that charm by making everything grounded. All of the fucking gangs just blend together.

Take me back to 2008

The reboot definitely needs to focus on these aspects: performance, tone, customization and replayability.

I would gladly take 60 fps over 4K resolution. Saints Row 2 was horribly optimized on PC, they cannot repeat that with this reboot. Graphics do not mean sacrificing depth and attention to detail.

The appeal of the original Saints Row was its comical portrayal of gangsta urban conflict. It knew when to take itself seriously without downplaying fun. Its characters sold on its multi-layered story for city prominence.

Its intro setpiece says it all. GTA: San Andreas is to Menace II Society as Saints Row is to Don't Be a Menace to South Central. Its humor and gameplay was its charm.

Customization is Saints Row's bread and butter. Attire, cars, protagonist, weapons, all yours to do what you see fit. I have no doubt this reboot will spare no expense in that category.

For replayability, it should look at Saints Row 1 and 2 for that inspiration. FUZZ, Mayhem, Insurance Fraud, Septic Tank, strongholds. But don't lock progression behind activities. And no puzzles like that bullshit in Saints Row IV. PvP multiplayer would help wonders too, but it would need accurate, fair controls for it to be balanced.

All of that would make Saints Row satisfy that GTA itch AND put Saints Row back on the map as a contender.

Also for the love of God, pace the LOL SO CUHRAZEE bullshit. The wacky moments in Saints Row 2's campaign worked because there was buildup and a sense of progression. 3 blows its load the moment you hit start and has nothing to top its opening missions.
I remember 2's story more than 3. All the gangs just blurred together.

Disagree, Saints Row's 2 story tone I felt clashed with the overall humor that Saints Row would provide. Not a bad game or story, just tonally inconsistent.

Yeah, while 2 was still good, I felt like it got a little too serious and gritty towards the end. I'd rather have that than what happened with 3 and onwards though. Not that 3 and 4 weren't fun when I played them, but I honestly don't remember much of them at all half a decade later.
