This is why I say story really doesn't matter for a game. Once you show write fags the door all this shit is gone.

Both convey the same information to get to the next objective, but one doesn't want to make a game they want to make a movie.

Seeing those character descriptions for the reboot made me realize something: Johnny Gat is Asian.

Really, nigga? Everybody knows that. Pay attention.

I actually didn't notice until halfway through playing Saints Row 1. His character personality was a gun-ho, crazy gangster who would not hesitant to cause mayhem for any reason. And that's why fans love him. Volition let that personality did the talking, not his race.

I'll go further. Look at the gangs at Saints Row 1. The Los Carneles (fuck you, Dex, I'll use the double definite) are a Latino centric drug cartel with a misogynistic, crazed leader. The Vice Kings are an African-American gang turned legitimate with their record company as a front. The Westside Rollerz are a suburban car-centric gang run by a motorhead.

All three gangs are multi-racial and have members of both genders. You learn that through natural play. This reboot is already using multiculturalism as a checklist for easy pandering. The original Saints Row was more diverse, even with stereotyping used for some character archetypes.

And that was sixteen years ago.

I still stand by SR1 being the best title in the series. It's a great mid 2000's GWB era time capsule, and the artstyle, licensed soundtrack and overall atmosphere (excellent sound design, for one thing) is top notch.

The main issue with SR2 is that it crashes constantly, so if you want to enjoy it on PC now, you'd better be okay with relaunching the game every hour or so*

The adult innuendos in Saints Row are more blatant than GTA. But that's the charm of Saints Row. It's unapologetically vulgar but they made it work as it was a GTA parody.

I LOVED Saints Row's soundtrack. Underground rap with R&B made exploring Stilwater a delight with the gang aesthetic. I'm talking about Krhyme FM and The Kronic 98.8.
