They're trying to imitate the look of film coloring but it's generally pretty hacky since they often just overlay the entire frame until recently with raytracing. Another one is Deus Ex Human Revolution that had that infamous "piss filter" over the entire thing. Oh, and Resident Evil 5 had it too.

The visual similarities the one girl in the trailer with the glasses has to Isabella Loretta Janke kills me fucking dead. These characters honestly do kinda feel like rich kids just doing "quirky kool kid gang activities!" rather than genuinely cool characters.

after watching the trailer I was too depressed to post in this thread, initially.
I loved 1 & 2 and thought 3 was pretty neat
4 was ok but it was pretty meh sci fi bullshit that I dont even remember most of the time I played it
that garbage looks dull as fuck and soy developer you might ask yourself "WHAAT EXPLOSIONS AND STUNT DRIVING SOO COOL" the thing is this will never happen in game; I will never be in a car full of rocket launchers driving backwards over rooftops to have the 'le epic showdown'. Im going to drive to waypoint A shoot some guys, get into some mediocre car combat to waypoint B then finish the mission, using the roads, probably running over pedestrians to amuse myself while your cool epic OCs shout zingers and cringe into my ears on the way
I mean you don't understand, your game is boring as fuck. I bet the sound design for your weapons will be absolute shit and all of them will handle like a limp ball of putty, I bet your explosions look and sound like trash, I bet your driving fells like trash, I bet your map design will be trash, I bet every technical system that powers the game play will feel and play like a generic low quality shooter from 2000. No, graphics dont count as cool; you can polish your turd with the latest 4TB of fuckoff graphics bullshit and no one will care because you have a story nobody cares about thats not even fun or slightly grounded in reality.
You know what would probably be cool is the nerd who got a pistol in the face actually got his fucking head blown off, that might've grounded your fucking shithole game in a world with consequences (like some sort of series rooted in criminal urban warfare?) other than your barely better than capeshit OCs magically stopping 5000 guys with guns and not being shot once. The only guy who managed that sort of invincibility was Gat and at least that nigger wasnt an insufferable asshole and did eventually get fucking capped like everyone else
it really irked me that all of the enemies actually reacted to anything going on in this trailer with the speed of an 80 year old with dementia, like wouldnt these niggas be watching out for the cops after shooting someone in the head and wouldnt they see two hipsters illuminated and looking at their smart phones down an alley literally across the road from them in full view? Jesus christ I hate it so much

I really enjoyed running around in a motorcycle helmet in 2, and I couldn't do that in 3. But it had a fucking werewolf mask.
They just kept paring shit back. Customization in 2 was fantastic. 4 even cut the god damn WATER. Yeah the water missions in 2 sucked ass, but that egg hunt on the water in 2 was one of my favorite experiences on the 360 platform at all.
I was warned off buying Saints Row, but I really enjoyed it. I made Cal Worthington and ran around in a cowboy hat.

Considering how gaming has progressed a gravelly-voiced unshaven white dude as a protag would be a standout design. There's a reason the RE: Village thread is subtitled the Virgin Vampire Lady vs. the Chad Heisenberg.
Fallout New Vegas does that with fucking orange. Thankfully you can download a mod on PC to ditch the filter. So much nicer-looking, especially if you get yourself a HD sky texture. The Mojave at night is fucking gorgeous, both IRL and in-game with that setup.

They don't even have graphics on their side.
It's an updated version of the same engine that powered Saints 3, but unlike R* who's RAGE engine is properly updated and improved, Volition take the half-assed Bethesda route and their game engine's age is showing severely as a result.
You can expect the gunplay and sound design to be very similar to 3 & 4, which you may or may not like, but instead it'll be 2022 and not 2011 or 2013 which will make it sound pathetic either way.
