There is an algiz (upside down peace sign) in the Jews Rock sketch, which represents the tree of life, fertility, etc in the barbarian pagan tradition. Adversely, the inverse of the algiz represents death, decay, etc. the algiz was later adopted into a Christian symbol of the cross and used in nazi germany for this purpose (very curious the symbol of death and decay became the post ww2 symbol of peace! Curious!!)

Ive always assumed that this is what bernstein was referring to in his phone call and article, but never found any direct confirmation on it.

It doesnt excuse anything on adult swim/bernsteins side, but it might explain where their seemingly unfounded beliefs of hidden nazi symbols originate from. Sam still is responsible for blowing up world peace by not listening to AS and continuing to do guerilla marketing tho

While the inner symbol is like the death rune, thats not the origin of the symbol for the peace sign, which comes from nuclear disarmerment using flag semophore

Sam has dropped a new promo vid (a) for the season finale of Extreme Peace, and it's... quite something.

"why did you lie about the swastikas?".
Because for all we know, it wasn't a lie, considering the story is that they were caught and edited out/removed before airing.

There actually was a swastika in World Peace, I've circled it in blue in the below image. The interesting thing about the bumper with the swastika in it is that it's not in the uncensored version and was only included in the censored version that aired on AS. Even Sam's OMITTED video showcasing all the uncensored bumpers doesn't include it. How does a bumper with a swastika in it end up in only the censored tv version of the show and not the MDE approved original uncensored version? The bumper itself looks very rushed too compared to the rest of them that appear in the show making me wonder if this particular bumper was even made by the same person who make the rest of them for the show or if it was just some random AS editor that made it up real quick and threw it in there.

If you could encompass "trying too hard" in a video, this would be it.
Pretty sure that's what they were going for.

Sam said in the Hodges Twins Podcast that this was supposed to be a temporary graphic (at 4:20)

Also that graphic is uncensored in the unaired pilot.

Sam had a set idea of how he wanted the podcast to go and when it didn't go that way he got uncomfortable and crashed out. He was planning to overwhelm Harland and use his confusion and discomfort to set the pace of the interview, bring up controversial topics like jews to keep Harland on the back foot, make some genuine political commentary, then dissipate the tension with a joke and restart the cycle. It's a classic tactic and Sam used it on Matan Even, this time it seems he wanted to be even more explicitly political, meaning he'd have to play it even better. Issue is, the plan failed. Harland at no point was defensive and responded to everything in a natural cadence like it was expected even when it obviously wasn't (which I suspect is why some people think this was 5D chess or whatever).

Long autistic ramblings about what went wrong and how Sam could have handled this interview better ahead, (inspired by people on this thread not knowing how he could have handled some of the jokes better):

  • The entire time Harland keeps bringing Damiel in who makes utterly insipid comments and breaks the flow of the conversation because of how hard it is to get him close to the mic, turning Sam's intimidation of putting Damiel behind Harland against Sam. I don't get the idea of Damiel, what's the point of carrying around a retard unless it's to make fun of them? If you have to stand by the retard that just makes you look bad.
    • Sam could have ended this by pretending he wants to get Damiel closer to a mic, and moving him next to Charles so he'd stay quiet and out of frame for the rest of the podcast. Safe bet.
    • Alternatively he could make fun of Damiel, riskier bet because Harland may not go along with that. Or he might, considering he uses Damiel to make them look retarded the entire time.
  • 3:40 Indian joke that Harland interrupts to talk about possible technical issues, promises to come back to the Indian joke. There's a cut with a technical issues effect and they're now just talking about the setup. Not sure if Harland cut out Indian jokes or what. Damiel introduces himself as lasagna lips, as Harland previously called him, and no one acknowledges it.
    • I'd like to point out there are multiple cuts like that throughout the podcast (even before the gorilla nest) that I did not notice on other podcasts by Harland. Why did Harland feel the need to cut out stuff? Were those references to Extreme Peace, offensive jokes, fucking with Sam by cutting some jokes he's proud of out, or doing Sam a favour and cutting out jokes that were somehow even worse than what we saw?
  • 5:40 unfunny Sam joke about converting to judaism in Scientology "did you guys know they're all JEWS there?", Harland reacts with fake ignorance, pretends to confuse goy with koi and Sam shuts it down by saying a blunt "yes that's what it is". They should have moved along here but Charles makes the horrible joke that "goy means having a big cock" and Harland actually makes it funny by forcing the special needs guy to agree with that, who does so eagerly. Damiel then calls himself lasagna lips AGAIN, they laugh this time and Harland says we don't make fun of friends here. Then Harland tries to come back to the bit of what a goy is but Sam asks for a restart, I assume because he realized the goy cock thing wasn't funny and he doesn't know how to make a good joke now. Harland agrees with 0 hesitation but considering this made it to the final cut, the "we can restart any time if you ask" agreement must have been killed along with the table.
  • 7:00 Sam decides to reference jews on the second try, Harland redirects it but then says "I love making fun of you". The goodwill may be gone already.
  • Not sure if Sam picks up on the tension and decides to escalate or doesn't notice it but he makes a "you're getting the call" joke that Harland would probably not understand and tries to quickly explain it rather than moving on and leaving it for his audience. Horrible.
  • The "ripe and tight" comment seemingly was said to make Sam uncomfortable, but then Harland started making silly over the top sexual facial expressions, giving Sam a chance to play it off or make a joke. Sam I suppose tries to play it as the straight man by maintaining his discomfort but then Harland calls in Damiel who ruins whatever bit Sam was doing. Or breaks the tension if Sam was just about to crash out.
  • Harland says that Damiel needs to "lurch" to talk in the mic faster. A joke about how Harland is ruining the flow by calling Damiel in lol. Sam decides to get up and try physical intimidation now for some reason but plays it off that it's about his back pain. Harland jokes about this being a Catholic choir, mocking the number of men there and that they all just follow Sam. Nick tries to play along and make some jokes but Sam ignores him, killing it.
  • The back pain joke is eh, I suspect it's an attempt by Sam to talk about working out but Harland doesn't bite (even though he works out) and jokes about being a serial killer and lifting meatloaf.
  • 11:10 Harland prompts Sam to sing again but he jokingly pretends his throat hurts too much, an alright banter response to end that line of joking, but there was no need to do so.
  • Harland brings up the awkward jewish joke again "what were you before you were jewish", suspicious cut, then Sam talks about his ethnicity. Harland jokes about being able to open an IHOP with Sam's ancestry. Sam asks about Harland's ancestry who says "nosy" in a sing song voice. Sam asks him seriously if he's jewish (bro stop). Sam should have instead made a joke that he wants to know if he can open an IHOP with him or something, play off of what Harland said!
  • Instead he makes a joke about Harland not being a "big jew that opens doors for us", which to a normie is presumptuous and antisemitic. Does Sam think Harland is redpilled on jews or something?
  • Harland accidentally hits Damiel and says "sorry I hit your ovaries" lol
  • Nick and Harland try to connect on the basis of being Canadian, Sam interrupts to get Nick to cut a loose thread on Sam's shirt, proving the queen bee allegations.
  • 16:10 they restart again as a joke (pretty sure), Sam says HH (Harland Highway Podcast) which would have been funny if this had gone any other way
  • Harland tries to switch gears to talk about nature, presumably to start on his gorilla bit he had prepared (he has random silly props on many of his interviews, the gorilla nest was truly just a happy accident LOL), but Sam says "are we going to ignore the jewish question" bruh this nigga was not always this unfunny was he
  • it's played off, another restart
  • Harland makes some funny jokes, calls Erick a "homo erectus", I get the feeling he genuinely wants to bring the other guys in on the jokes but it's not working
  • Nick starts off some unfunny joke about cavemen fucking robots, Harland interrupts by bringing in Damiel LOL
  • 20:40 Sam tries to get the paper Harland has but fails, can be played as a joke but he seems flustered at this point. The jokes haven't been landing so far but it's salvageable. Sam seems worried Harland is trying to set him up when all he needs to do is be funny, not respond to accusations or whatever he's afraid of.
  • suspicious technical difficulties cut
  • Sam makes an unfunny talk tuah joke (bruh)
  • "Indians are rapists" (bruh)
  • "Have you ever been raped, you look like you have" LOL. Sam shuts down and says "thank you" with a death stare. Could have worked 1-on-1 to intentionally create tension but with all the people it doesn't work and Nick starts joking that he has been raped. Damiel is brought in again and has no idea what to say for seconds at a time, painfully awkward.
    • 21:43 interesting background detail, Sam looks up at Damiel, it cuts to Harland and you can see Damiel is nodding while looking at Sam, not Nick who's talking at the moment. When it cuts to Sam/ Nick, Sam is also nodding, when it cuts to Daniel again he's doing a thumbs up. Are Sam and Damiel hyping each other up after their miserable performance so far? Kino.
  • Sam should have gone along and joked that he was raped instead of shutting down, but letting Nick yap then ask Harland if he's been raped is an eh to ok distraction. Harland starts making an elaborate story about being raped by priests, everyone's talked about that, Sam handles it poorly. Rather than denying that it was priests they could have made some joke about how that made him gay now or something. They break the most basic rule of improv, "Yes, and.." good job guys. They could have made a joke by interrupting him and saying "and then they brought you to church and taught you real roller skating tricks" (since Harland's rape story started with him roller skating), ending the uncomfortable rape segment that bothered Harland AND the priest thing that bothered them.
  • 25:50 infamous cunnilingus/ "is the whole podcast just this" moment. Second time Sam has tried to get sewious, showing he's done 0 research and can't improvise. Sam seems pretty flustered and Harland brings out the salmon to diffuse it.
  • Sam for the 3rd or 4th time completely shuts down a joke, and flat out says "no" to showing his cunnilingus technique on the salmon. Again creating tension and breaking basic rules of improv. Clearly it's a defensive response, which is absurd to me because it's his own fucking joke. Does he not have a canned response to this? Does he not have some way to redirect this to talking about his show? That's such an obvious segue here!
    • could jokingly make a bad excuse not to do it "Oh I have a tongue injury from lifting", riffs off of his back pain thing (admittedly a bit lame)
    • could jokingly be humble and say he's learning from the masters still, segue into talking about that bit on Extreme Peace
    • just do it badly and also segue into talking about Extreme Peace
    • pick up the salmon and go like "wtf is this dude where did you get this? I don't want to put my mouth in that"
    • jokingly give it to everyone else to do but obviously refuse to do it (or say I'll do it after you, on the same one. gay joke, whatever)
    • ask Harland for tips
    • let Damiel make a fool of himself when he does it and promote his show
    • literally anything. This is a good comedic prompt, AND a prompt to promote his show. Why is Sam so scared here? This is a guy who has cross dressed, pretended to be gay, pretended to be retarded, all kinds of wacky undignified acts for sketches, why is this one too far? Even on his idubbbz gaslighting document many of the ideas included playing the fool. Did the pride of his fame get to his head or is it just Harland that's putting him on edge and not willing to act silly there?
  • 27:36 Sam looks genuinely mad lol
  • 28:23 the gorilla nest joke begins, we know what happens
    • again note this was a pre planned bit by Harland and not a reaction to what happened so far, in fact he tried to bring this up before once already.
    • 27:40 after Sam says he doesn't like nature (heavy on the defensive) Harland asks if it's ok to talk to him about it, he was giving Sam an out even though nothing had even happened yet.
    • Harland seemed happy when Sam immediately agreed to play along with the gorilla nest joke instead of shutting it down again
    • Since Sam accepted so quickly to get to his 'joke' of breaking shit, we don't know how Harland would have sold this gorilla nest thing, and how some actual jokes could have been played but here's some ideas of how Sam could have played it
      • ask if the twigs they bring are authentic gorilla nest twigs used by real gorillas, if so how they got them, if not launch into some other joke that he doesn't want fake gorilla nest twigs or something
      • distribute the twigs among the entire crew and lament that they're not enough for a nest
      • place the twigs all around Harland and make him the nested gorilla
      • place the twigs in a highly disruptive manner all over the microphones and such
      • lament that his nest may be rejected by authentic gorillas
    • It's literally such a versatile, wacky silly premise an amateur comedian could easily have riffed off of, why did Sam have to crash out like it was a personal attack
  • Sam then attempts to manhandle Harland in the true low point of Sam's comedy IMO. He has exhausted all his bits and can now only react with actual violence. I know Sam has kept a physical intimidation bit for years now, and it certainly helps with comedians who do potentially offensive comedy in public (see also Alex Stein), and it can be a good joke, I liked the Lena Dunham stuff. But is it getting old or am I? He relies on it constantly and it's kind of lame. I'm not a fan of making it part of his persona unless it's to promote boxing matches, and himself as a meathead, but he actually used a wacky persona separate from his usual one for his one match so it doesn't even work for that. I can only watch "Sam Hyde is stronger than this random twig/ kid/ woman" so many times. Even on Matan Even, where Matan initiated it by putting his hands on him first, I felt that it went on for too long. And it's a joke that you can't overextend to make it ironic either because it just becomes assault. It has to be quick and effective, which is the opposite of what happened here.
  • Sam looks the least in control he's been so far.
  • Sam has demonstrated to Harland that Harland can make him super mad and that Sam is a violent retard with bigoted viewpoints Harland does not agree with (if you don't agree with me on the second point, see this comment Harland liked). Harland now has absolute power.

I won't go into the rest because it is just genuinely sad. Sam tries to do damage control and they engage each other more genuinely for the first time, all he had to do was humble himself a little first. Sadly that humbling took ruining every bit of goodwill Harland had, who is now just going to play his character to the end knowing he won't let Sam promote his show and that he'll post this to make Sam look like an asshole. It's truly over, the winner has been decided and Sam has to go on pretending there was no game. I have no ideas as to how this could have been saved at this point for Sam, I think it might have been impossible. Even making himself look retarded wouldn't work because what he did genuinely was more retarded than anything he could do ironically now. Maybe if Harland had freaked out Sam could play off of that but I think even then he'd come out looking worse. Maybe genuinely apologizing? I don't know.

If you want a TLDR I collected some comments liked by Harland that vindicate many of my points.

Nazi swastika is counterclockwise (if you imagine it spinning like a windmill), this one is clockwise, which is a pedantic argument but one I've seen before. They are both still solar symbols, but based on my uninformed sperggotry, one is an inversion of the other, keeping with the "as above so below" concept found in the "tree of life."

My personal schizo take on mythology is that it all goes back to Chronos being represented by the black cube, scythe, and serpent, where the serpent represents shedding skin and taking a new form. In other words, Chronos, Zeus, and Apollo are three versions of the same "god" in different forms. I don't want to shit up the thread too much, so I'll stop there.

Fair enough. I doubt Bernstein was referring to that, though. He is/was a Buzzfeed journo, so he may have watched WP once and that was it. There are a lot more visible swastikas in Ideas Man and Tissue Box, though (not that it matters).

No its just called plausible deniabilty. Sams brand of irony, same as the rest of the nazis who are too cowardly to stand by it. "Its the other symbol, the hindu one, dont know why youd say its the nazi one *wink*"

Tired and played to death far before WP
