Scott Pilgrim Netflix Animated Series - Animated by Science SARU

I really liked the movie and what I've read of the comics.

If you were in the right age when it came out I would agree.

It was not without flaws but it was decently written, witty, punchy and edgy. It was on the wholesome end of things but not without dark moments and it had copious random access humour.

Despite the common criticism, Ramona Flowers was not a role model. Neither was Scott Pilgrim. They were both insufferable cunts, a fact that is repeated over and over by every character in existence.

You would think Scott got better when he battled the anti-Scott in that one mountain fight and that Ramona got over her toxic personality but the very last panel is both of them fucking off to another dimension so that they can stop screwing over the good people of Toronto.

Overall, it comes off as something Dave Willis wished he had written and drawn.

Yes, it's full of girlbosses, snarky smartasses, LGB (no Ts that I'm aware off) people, there's a street shitter and there are vegans but this is unsurprising since we're talking 00's Toronto, and the comics actually make fun of all of them - Which no IP would ever dare to do nowadays.

The comics have aged badly but not for the reason they'll probably think. If it's aged badly it's not because of the psychotic, fat, clingy goth lesbian, the self-deprecating, hedonistic, drunk gay guy with a sharp tongue (Who is not that promiscuous in the comics, this is a movie thing btw), the asian yandere with helicopter parents, the bearded, screechy, lithe, judgemental whiny fag, the perpetually angry, psychotic nerd girl, the slutty femme fatale, the hypocritical vegans and so on and so forth... If anything all of these things are amongst the things that made the comics funny and entertaining to begin with. Therefore, these are the things I am fully expecting Netflix to tone down or completely cut off.

The reason it's aged like milk is because the general liberal atmosphere comes out as wholesome, funny and lighthearted. Twenty years later liberal environments like Toronto as is presented in these comics are far from ideal, and the quirky, funny, diverse cast creates cognitive dissonance when compared to real life.

Re: The movie. Again, I liked it when I watched it loooong ago, but it already missed the point of many things and toned down or cut many of the aforementioned things. The movie is an already existing woke retelling of the comics except Wallace is now a complete whore and Ramona's flaws are toned down HARD as are Scott's.

The movie had in his favour Edgar Wright's intuitive, quick and easy on eyes sense of aesthetics, a mostly good cast (Mary Elizabeth Weinstead is a good Ramona and everyone's favourite feminist Brie Larson is just perfect as an Envy Adams with hardly any redeeming quality. Brandon Routh and Chris Evans are also good as is Jason Lee and Jason Schwartzman. Kieran Culkin is also great for this version of Wallace and I have a soft spot for Allison Pill, who also did a perfect Kim Pines)

It's noticeable that Kim P. is the character that deviates the less from comics as I suspect she's Edgar W. and Simon P. waifu. I know of a certain bookstore, a huge bookstore close to a famous square but not quite in a crowded street, where the stairs of its four stories are populated with photographs of famous people. One of them, I think in between the 1st and the 2nd floor, is Simon Pegg. He's wearing a Kim Pines custom tee.

I sort of did a double-take at the voice and had to check to confirm that it's Michael Cera.
Idk...looks kinda plain and slow, but it's only a teaser and it might a better look than the spazzy lolrandom shit that the movie overdosed on. Might give it a shot, but not expecting much.
I know Wallace is gay, but did they have to make him a faggot?

Scott Pilgrim is definitely one of those "products of its time" and I cannot see an attempt to restart the franchise 15 years after the comics came out ending well.

It was a comic about hipster losers when being a hipster loser meant you played shitty music in your shitty band, listened to Cat Power and Neutral Milk Hotel and played retro video games because you grew up playing Super Nintendo.

Nowadays being a hipster loser means what, watching Vtubers, getting groomed on Discord, never going outside?

Thinking about Scott Pilgrim makes me wish we could go back. Yeah it's kind of lame and gay but it's comfy and not as bugfuck as reality is nowadays.

-Ramona divorces Scott.
-Scott becomes a MGTOW.
-Wallace fucks my uncle that works at nintendo.
-Scott goes back to the past and prevents him fighting the evil ex-boyfriends by teleporting his past self to his era with help of the twins.
-Ramona has a counter plan sending a script of the original events to past Neil with the help of DeLorean roller skates that she pulled from her ass, that plan fails miserable.
-Past Matthew takes over past Gideon's empire.
-4 episodes of the show trying to make a petty response to the song "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World ruined a whole generation of women" by making past Ramona get in good terms with her evil ex-boyfriends while looking for past Scott and everyone else move on with their lives.
-Ramona gets past Scott back to his era where he explains everything.
-Scott has a plan B creating an anti-kiss potion that he makes past Scott drink
-Final episode has old Scott Pilgrim cosplaying as generic evil old guy from fighting games trying to take on all the past characters in an attempt to "fix" everything.
-Old Ramona merges with past Ramona and magically solves everything.
-Roll credits.
-Haruhi Suzumiya ruined a whole generation of anime.

FF7 Remake did the same thing and it was the best video game ever made, so I don't know what your problem is.
Ff7 at least stuck to the story bears of the original with some added closed loop time travel stuff that can either be something you like or don’t.

This is like if Cloud died during that opening bombing run and you played as Tifa with a mid-level Shinra grunt taking over as the main bad guy.

I don't think it could be translated well from graphic novel to animated show regardless. It worked because with a graphic novel everything moves fast. Most of the comic absolutely shit all happened.
