There's a reason why people compare the wiki's inner community to a cult. People on the inside very often believe the wiki and its staff are not capable of doing anything majorly wrong. A search of the logs for the word "pedo" was interesting. Log dump warning. This is going to be a demonstration as to how staff both willfully ignore the uncomfortable reality of sex pests among them and how/why they downplay, postpone, or dismiss accusations about them when they should be as clear as day. Some protect them, some enable them, some join them, but most people are just too submerged in the herd to either say what they are thinking while it is happening, and dare to be the odd one out among their peers. They are weak people, is the bottom line.
First, I thought this exchange was interesting...
... given that it was in mid-2018. This was almost 2 years prior to KF starting to uncover Bright as a pedophile. Recall that nothing discovered and presented ITT was news or unavailable to staff. There's a podcast where Dr.Mann is interviewed and when asked about how Bright is kinda.... odd and questionable, he brushes it off like "oooh, that's just Bright!". Yet somehow, the info in the posts were enough to cause Bright's "stepping down".
Here in the transcript, they are talking about a user who genuinely does sound like a real cunt; CommieConnie, a Roxie 2.0 if you will. Anyone calling people ableist and the like would be rightly chased out of here as well.
I'm not making the case that they shouldn't have banned her. But turns out she was dead-on-balls accurate with Bright, if only that. Here we see the staff truly caring more about her "edginess", the insults she gave 049, the disagreements she had with the FB staff, and her general criticism of what they were doing at any given time. They collectively are annoyed by this person -- which is fair -- but use that annoyance to disregard some claims that they could have taken more seriously and maybe considered if they were more level-headed and less of a clique. I believe their prides and egos, and authorities, were so central to their operations, that they were unable to look past insults to them into the bigger issues.
For example, they say that this Connie would need evidence of her claims about someone being anti-trans or whatever. But they don't bring this up for the claims of Bright being a sex pest. I think I know why, and I think they did/do too. The odd thing is, there was enough from Bright's behavior by then -- the 13 year old's boobs tale, the request for nudes on his 36th birthday at the least -- for staff to have known to take this more seriously. They likely buried their heads in the sand regarding it, because they didn't want to come to terms with the reality.
The dead-reflex inability to step back and think for a second in the midst of fellating each other turns out to be a critical failure in the staff's ability to be objective, particularly with harassment cases. This is how they can seemingly be silent and unaware of someone like SaX being a major creep for a long long time, then claim to have known it all along after he was finally banned:

This stuff is right in their faces, but they need completely detached observers like those here on KF to point out to them that they are enabling and harboring a bunch of people who shouldn't be in positions of significance, power, or influence. All the people we are bringing up now, they will claim to have not known enough about if and until public pressure again forces their hands away from their eyes.
