Well, so here's the thing. They were negrating, but they were hoping that negrates in addition to using reports would literally drive people away from their precious corner of the internet. They were planning low-tier gayops to try to get users threadbanned or banned, and were genuinely scared of posting in several prominent election mania threads because someone might call them a retard or give them tophats, which got in the way of their "enlightened" discussion.
I'm sure that there are a handful of lefty-types that are report-happy, and they should be thrown into the gulags for abusing the function same as their mirror-images. But you have to realize, to even post in A&H as a lefty-type, you need to already have some thick skin. And the phenomenon of HHH posting in a thread and like 30 people filling their diapies over him is absolutely a sign of that thin-skinned nonsense. You'll often see more sensible people on the right telling the crowing retards to just ignore or overlook HHH's posts, and those aren't the people clogging up the report queue. The problem, regardless of political leaning or "balance" on the site, are the thin-skinned bitchmade grogs who quickdraw on the report function.

As someone pointed out earlier, that's literally the whole of the spiderman faggot thread. I think that having disparate cliques, different circles, and unspoken agreements is generally fine and necessary when you have a site population as large and diverse as the one here. So long as shit-stirring is kept to designated containment threads, that's realistically the better way to go forward.
The thing that gets me is that it isn't even as if that's exclusively the sorts of people that read or post or so-on in those areas, but they're so tedious to interact with that it naturally feels like a split. If you dare to pierce the chorus of people chirping in with the same outdated 2016 pepe-level jokes, and god help you if you do it with links to actual sources, you get the hive's ire. Which is mostly just funny, given that like 4 different people have sworn they were gonna dox me because I dared to call their doomsperging hysterical.
But for people who want to actually follow or discuss a given topic, it can be annoying that anyone who dares to break the aura of facebook-tier boomer "jokes" to add in actual context or information gets drowned out in an ocean of bitching and (often enough) reports. So it is that you get the distinct impression it's all race-realists and alcoholics whose daughters don't talk to them anymore, if not edgy teenagers, because it's often such a joyless slog for anyone outside that stereotype to actually contribute.
That said, every now and then, you can find someone civil enough - even of the extreme poles - who provides an interesting enough change on perspective and offers up information or reasoning that's food for thought. So it's less that extreme opinions are the problem per se, and more that the blob of lazy posters that add nothing and seek to eternally bask in precious updoots and heccin validation from other Saviors of the West have gravitated towards the extreme opinions because it's easiest to farm karma and excuse one's own failings with the comforting balm of grand conspiracies.
