Selecting a Despot for the Autism Thunderdome

Also, the amount of people that literally do not read the article content and just rage post based on the title is wild. Dunno how to fix that though
I realize it's probably a verboten suggestion at this point, but I think a sticker would be best. It wouldn't even have to fuck with reaction score, just something that took the piss out of someone politi-raging at headlines.
I don't have what it takes to be a mod, but I'll continue to pop into the Thunderdome and make fun of the /pol/tards clutching pearls over embryos in between trading animal autism with them.

Bonding over cool/cute/interesting animal facts and pics might just be the way to world peace.
This user is a fucking shining example of how anyone who gets their panties in a twist over the Thunderdome should operate. Most Thunderdome users think she's fucking insane, and she keeps going anyway. There's a certain mutual respect you can develop in spite of not agreeing on any topic under the sun. Combative? Yes, and that's part of the charm of the Thunderdome.

E) Immediately threadban users for deliberately shitting up threads. A lot users like to derail threads by deliberately posting bait, and having dipshits fall for it This causes a lot of threads to bloat with pages upon pages of retarded slapfighting. And I don't even mean by just posting a differing opinion. I mean by deliberately provoking fights, and shit, which leads me to the following:
one's man shitted up thread is another man's Saturday morning entertainment.

again, if the issue is pages of shit you personally don't to read, go make your own forum and enforce topic rules. That's not what the actual problem is.

Null said he wanted a despot. Every solution has been so indecisive so I’ll propose something like a true despot.

If a thread gets more than 10 reports overall every user in the thread will be lined up, and 1/10th will be lined up and temp banned for 10days. There will be no order or reasoning.

“But Root they’ll just not use the report function.”
Appropriate reports will result in your name being removed from the pool of potential bans and that can be settled by a few trusted jannies. Mods will also be able to declare a thread “derailed” or “full of spergs” and initiate a culling. If you want to post you will keep it civil, keep it on topic, or risk losing it for a period. Reporting bad faith actors and spergs will be encouraged as it will potentially protect you. False reports will get you banned for 30 days as it’s an insult to the despot to try and pull a fast one.

It will be an adjustment, but after a few cullings there would be a begrudging peace.
call that the r00ty decimate system

If you want the saturday morning cartoon, go read the pastadome. The derailing is the problem more than the slapfighting.

Instead of site banning problem users who only want to use A&H as /pol/ 2, would it be possible to implement some kind of system where you have to have a minimum amount of non-A&H posts before you can post in the Thunderdome? I don't really know how any of this works and am a boomer with anything tech-related, but since one of the issues is /pol/tards signing up for A&H and refusing to integrate, something that kind of forces their hand to use the rest of the site might be worth consideration.

Of course if they just shit up the rest of the site yeah, that's a problem, but they also won't be in that echo chamber and will get neg-rated accordingly (like what happens when one stumbles into Tard Baby).

says you

I don't even see that much derailing in A&H, in the sense that things stay generally on topic, people don't randomly start chatting about completely separate things that often.

I've never seen a current events discussion board that enforced very stringent derailing rules that didn't end up boring and useless. You don't get the good juicy content unless you allow the political discussion and random semi-related shit.

I don't know, is part of the problem here *reading skills?* like just skim. how slow do you people read?

Nah, I'm here too. It's just kind of pointless; the whiners will carry the day as usual as they have on all the blighted websites everyone is complaining about.
I am also here, and as a chronic A&Her, I have some thoughts about the qualifications the new A&H Grand Viceroy should have.

1. They shouldn't spend all of their time on A&H. If the purpose of the position is to make A&H less of a Kekestani shithole and more like the rest of the forum, that necessitates familiarity with the rest of the forum. I'd DQ anyone who has made more than 2/3rds of their posts on A&H.

2. Don't make it anyone who's volunteered. A&H needs to be cleaned up, but it shouldn't be a hugbox made in the vision of some power-hungry mod.

3. Make sure they're capable of posting intelligent things, even on A&H. Let them serve as an example to the rest of the board. This doesn't disqualify shitposters, but make sure they can do more than shitpost.

4. Make it someone accountable to forces outside A&H. Null and the admins don't have to be directly involved, but I'd like whoever is picked to commit to issuing some kind of report to them monthly or biweekly or something about their progress making A&H less plagued.

I'm sure there are other factors that need to be considered, but I'd like this to serve as some kind of baseline.

Here’s how I’d do it.

There are too many inflammatory articles in A&N. Part of that is because the world is falling apart, part of that is because A&N has definitely taken a right-wing stance, part of it is because some people can find a way to fight about anything.
To be honest I think one of the reasons A&H and similar off topic boards exist on other forums is that Comment sections don’t exist anymore. For me the appeal is the same as the yahoo comment sections of yore. Basically, there’s a crappy article which you can shit post about, watch the seethe, and get a chuckle or two from some of the angrier posters.

Part of it too is that the articles of today are meant to be inflammatory. A lot of political readers and listeners are hate readers and hate listeners. The audience for “far left” or “far right” are actually people who disagree with them. Hate gets a lot more clicks aka ad revenue. Especially when it’s a low effort blog post.
So, starting there:
1) all topics related to abortion, Covid, and vaccines get a megathread. Maybe one for grooming/public school stuff as well. There’s only so much people can say about those anyway, before it turns into either MATI posting or a fight. Discussion is fine, but anyone caught starting slapfights gets removed from the thread for a week.
it’d be hard but trying to enforce everything as a mega thread could help a lot and reduce the clutter. So you could have a tranny mega thread, a Johnny Depp v Amber Heard mega thread, etc.
2) Have an invisible ‘derailing’ sticker viewable by mods only, that can only be used on a 1 week cooldown or something.
This avoids the people upset about ratings, and also limits the ability to use it as a ‘punishment’. People won’t be able to just spam them on people they dislike. But if a specific post gets enough ratings, make it invisible, or auto-move to the pastadome.

3) No posting in the Autistic Thunderdome until a person has been registered for at least 90 days. This forces them to lurk more and pick up site culture, as well as preventing someone from joining as a kneejerk reaction to some article they get angry about.
This could help.
4) members can only post 1 article a day to start. As they’ve either been here longer or prove their ability to find good articles (how that’s determined, I‘d say maybe by a jury of regular article posters?) they can increase their ability to post. Cat Party, for example, is a good poster, and deserves to be allowed to post more than 1 article a day.
This seems like it would be a bit of a pain to implement.

I get negrated in Tard Baby and the fundie threads all the time, why do people care

maybe this is a really good idea because if people are that thinskinned that little tiny pictures drive them off, they definitely should go away

Aggressive bucketing, and segregation of topics should be enforced. The Abortion debate containment thread has been pretty damn successful in that regard. The clickbait/ragebait that Catparty and friend posts is also handled well.

slapfights and asshurt is going to happen. The goal should be to minimize collateral. Political sperging in topics that aren't inherently political must be punished, if just for the sanity of the rest of the site. Political and news threads should have a standard of being topic focused. If the thread starts de-railing badly, the offending post should be moved to the appropriate thread, or "Pastadomed". Slapfights get "Pastadomed."

Offenders of posting segregation and slap-fighting/shit-stiring the get:
  1. warning
  2. temp-thread-ban
  3. perma-thread-ban
  4. temp/perma-ban from the Thunderdome and the site in general.
Warnings get reset after x-period of good behavior, and Thread-Perma-bans are could be appealed after xx-period of good behavior and moderator approval.

Doing just the above would massively improve the Thunderdome. It's been done before, and a sustained effort, by a staff that isn't massively overworked would do quite a bit.

Jew Spergs need their own containment and debate thread. I can't say I don't have some sympathy, but many of these guys just don't know when to quit. Going into any random thread and seeing "teh joos did this, gas teh Kikes." a dozen times in half a dozen pages gets repetitive at the very least. Bundle most of it up and toss it in a thread called "ADL News and Discussion Thread" or something like that. Some of these fuckers need to learn how to have a discussion around anything other than the Jew.

_
Once a slapfight is tossed into the "Pastadome", it should pretty well be ignored except for illegal content. Containment threads should be fairly light touch too, just so long as shit doesn't spill back out.
____
That's my 2 cents anyway.

Most of the best suggestions have already been discussed and given support, but I'm gonna throw my hat into the ring for this one. I don't want to be a janny but I do have some thoughts that haven't been touched on.

One of the biggest problems is the people who use A&H for validation, right? The answer is simple.

Take away the "weight" of the stickers. If there's no reaction score to gain, the shitty people will stop posting. If they bleed out elsewhere for attention they'll be wrangled by the jannies of whatever area they bleed into, which means they can either change their behavior or take a ban.

If you take away the thing they crave, they'll either change or leave.

I also want to say the idea of having privileges based on prior behavior would probably be helpful. Consequences work when applied consistently, but the people who are in charge need to be willing to enforce the rules equally. Just because someone has a good track record doesn't mean they'll always be good, and someone who has shit up the place has the potential to be rational even if rationality is unlikely. If a janny shows a bias towards users, they need to go.

Lastly, we need to enforce the rule about people who add nothing to the topic at hand. I know I'm guilty of this, a lot of people are. But with a little quality control and impulse control I think the Thunderdome can be rehabbed enough to not be a stain on the rest of the site.

No that would be horrifying, nobody wants those faggots shitting up the rest of the site.

Gonna be honest I'd rather see you just flat out shut the subforum down than give some of the people in here asking for power what they want. IMO, as a user that joined right before the Christchurch shit went down and changed the demographics of the website forever, it seems to be an unanswerable question. I have seen how the rest of the internet deals with it, and banning partisan content almost always ends with a single side gaining dominance and declaring anything that deviates to be disruptive. I first joined to laugh about Chris, and only stumbled upon A and H (before the board was split in twain) by happenstance. I appreciate having a place to discuss news with other people in a way that basically no other webzone allows for anymore. The only solution that I can see working is either total elimination or a hard divorce of the news and happenings section of this website into it's own domain. We already have one specifically for movie night. Maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part though, I know you've tried things like that in the past.

TL;DR I used a lot of words to basically shrug and offer a half assed solution. IDK man ever since coronavirus everybody has turned into hairtrigger rage monkeys. It's sad, I like a and n AND the on topic parts of this site :(
