The only reason I can think of why people got so mad about the stickers is because usually some people are really attached to their political beliefs and what could seem like just disliking a bad post on the internet to some could be seen by others as an attack on them as a person.

That doesn't really fix the situation. Having a Special Military Operation thread in Happenings for the Vatniks to jerk themselves off about globalhomo and a Ukrainian War thread in A&N for everyone else just makes it easier for one or two idiots from either thread to run over to the other and completely derail it with a slapfight.

I mean, I suspect that's mostly happening in one direction since I gave up on the Happenings version being anything but shit months ago now, but from a moderation perspective hugboxes aren't the solution. We have the same problem with the Trump Derangement/Enslavement threads, though neither of those are in the Thunderdome.

I think if you're concerned about something like that, moderating on this website is not for you. You will immediately be set upon by aggressive nutjobs that believe you have a vendetta against them for retarded reasons. You will have people sifting through your post history looking for shit to use against you. If you're already putting in an exit clause before you've even been considered I think you ought to just not go through the trouble. You'll be better off.

I have actually noticed that the "dislike" does indeed trigger less of an automatic shitflinging response than the tophats or garbage cans did. It might be a controversial opinion but I do believe limiting stickers in a nd n has had a positive effect on discourse. Sure it took it from nuclear dumpster fire to regular dumpster fire, but it's something.

A&H should be limited to "I will rape your whole fucking family you dumb nigger" and "Fuck you, you faggot kike" ratings.

The best way to defeat a dumpster fire is to pour gas on it until the dumpster melts.

The whole Ukraine spiral has divided plenty of formerly unified communities, and even shitholes like /pol/ just run two threadjerk generals, simply because of the complexity of why someone might support one side over the other. These really divisive topics attract people whose best relief might be therapy, or touching grass, or a job. But then I couldn't read the rageposting

Hugboxes don't really work and as others have mentioned, some threads just have pro and anti groups fighting each other constantly. I guess the way this could all be addressed is give everyone one mega thread and be liberal with the use of the threadbans or accept everything will be constantly combative for this particular thread.

Have a section for the "White team" that only allows right leaning posting, and have a section for the "Black team" that only allows left leaning posting. Occasionally open a battleground thread where the two can fight each other for the amusement of others. Any battling done outside of this designated zone results in immediate execution of all involved.
