Keep seeing random people wandering around. They should probably evacuate now, no?

I don’t think there’s a truly safe place they can evacuate to. It looks like all of the island’s going to get hit in some way or another. I wonder what it must feel like, to be in such a helpless situation.

It is. Been watching a few interviews of people refusing to leave because of all the stuff in their houses and people in comments begging them to leave and material things aren't worth their life. Typical blacktivites though tbh. I don't think they understand how much danger they're in.

159 kt (180 mph) surface winds. What the fuck.

Melissa seems to have taken a slight southwestward jog away from the forecasted path. I doubt this means that it'll completely miss Jamaica but it's certainly worth monitoring

Pressure down to about 905 mb. Dropsonde readings should give us details soon.

163 kt surface winds :stress:

160 knots translates to over 180 mph. Goddamn.

Dropsonde reporting surface pressure as low as 909 mb in the eye. It's STILL intensifying.
Extrapolated pressure was down to 905 mb. It's possible the dropsonde didn't record the lowest pressure, or that the extrapolated pressure was lower than reality.

She's also a slow chonky bitch. Moving at just 3 Knots. By comparison, Katrina moved at almost 9 knots at times, and Hurricane Andrew was a speedy boy who clocked in at almost 16 knots. People often ignore how fast the storm itself is moving, but its important because the slower it goes, the more time over target the worst impacts will persist.

She's forecast to speed up as she makes her northwest turn towards Jamaica, but still. The storm's already spent days parked off the coast, sending rain band after rain band inland, soaking the whole place down well before landfall. Again, this is exactly what happened with Dorian and Harvey.

I hope that Riccardo and Romaine will be okay. Someone has to have them in their prayers in the face of this gigafuckoff storm and Rackets is too busy being mad that his ex lover had a pretty decent time during his 8 days in jail to care for the troubles of Our Wife's servitors.

I've been to inland Jamaica before and it's going to hit hard and bad. So many parts have these bauxite mines that basically strip everything. If you look at satellite, you can see them as they're the numerous red and orange exposed land on the hillsides. They're going to have massive flooding and mudslides and washouts the valleys.

Water vapor imaging.

Jamaica is getting just hammered with rain. This is going to cause so many problems. A lot of people have fled inland, but this is almost worse, because inland Jamaica is mostly mountains and hills. This much rain is going to cause complete devastation with flash floods and landslides.

The only good-ish news right now is that the storm is very compact, so the highest wind speeds cover a relatively small area. If they take a direct impact though, then lol, lmao.
