Shit that reminds you that you’re getting old - Re: Fwd: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Fwd: Damn young’uns

Perhaps I'm just bitching about being old but one thing I've noticed about young people is there inability to realize history didn't begin within the last ten years. For example when I watch a youtube video or some other piece of media I see comments about how this video is 'predicting corona!!' because it was released before 2020 and talks about a global pandemic, these (I presume) zoomers being seemingly unable to realize all these video/movies/games that game out in 2009-2010 were inspired by then recent events (Swine Flu and Sars 1) and that the concept of a modern global pandemic wasn't invented in 2020.

I saw a video from the Onion from 2014 explaining (in a satirical manner) the Palestine-Israeli conflict and the comments were filled with zoomers amazed by the Onions ability to predict the future, unaware the region had been in conflict since before I was born in the 80s.

Kind of since before Jesus was born in the '00s.

Watching Zoomers kill words is disheartening.
I gave up long ago on 'gaslighting'.
A 'Boomer' is an antagonist - age matters little if at all.

And now 'Karen'
Watching Zoomer 'Karen' youtube and TikTok videos-
...A cop arresting a shoplifter, narrator calls the cop a 'Karen'.
...Two women fighting while drunk, both called 'Karens'.
...A frustrated motorist after a car accident, no punches thrown, just a little pissed off b/c her car is totaled. Yup, that's a 'Karen'.

Youtube's 20th birthday will be next year. I still remember a time when that website was still considered new in terms of the history of the internet.
Remember you're first video? It's a shame how much of old youtube has been lost to channel/video deletions and terminations over time. There used to be this one video from 2006 which existed for well over a decade on the site (I'd only just seen it a few years ago) I went hunting for the video the other day to post it to KF only to find out the channel had been terminated by Youtube and I hadn't downloaded a copy. Online for a decade and a half and now gone forever.

I wonder what percentage of 2005 Youtube videos still exist, if Youtube has some statistic kept internally of total number of videos uploaded that year vs. total number of videos in existence from that year? I wonder if the majority are now gone like that video I was going to post.

I do

It really is scary of how impermanent it all, if I could have a button or a way to bring back as much of lost old youtube I would slam it in a heartbeat.

1 I recently made a joke about pushing a sandwich into a VCR and my nephew looked at me like I had two heads
2 Car dealerships will act like you're nuts for wanting a CD player, then try to sell you on Sirius XM. Same as I refuse to pay for cable television, I also refuse to pay for cable radio.

Seeing Operation is now known as "retro board game"
Just 20 years ago it was "classic", now it's "retro". "Retro" always sounds like they're calling it outdated or a relic e.g. people who carry 1911s, "classic" sounds more like it's been around for generations and still just as good like a Kalash.

Seemingly every gaming or anime fandom no matter how obscure demands you go to their personal echo chamber/banning spree zone (Discord).

Thank god for kiwi farms shedding some light on all that crazy making censoring bullshit that goes down on that infamous platform and how ban happy the userbase is that infests every god damn website.

how does the joke go?
It wasn't like a knock knock joke or anything, I just told him to be good and not give his parents a hard time. "Clean after yourself, study hard, be good to your parents, don't push a sandwich into the VCR", that kind of thing, and now I'm the elderly aunt who feels more like a grandma
I still think "retro" vidya is '70s and '80s stuff. Not '90s or '00s.
Operation is from the 60s :story:
I also still like to think of vidya made in 2010 or later as new now.
Same here, even Oblivion is still "new" in my mind

Reminds me of a 'meme' I saw once

I must be ancient then because I honestly don’t even know how to interpret that load of autism.

But yeah, the topic of vidya never fails to make me feel old at times. Worst is when a younger gamer asks your opinion on “awesome really deep rpgs for the pc they can sink a ton of time into” You, thinking “my time to shine!” start listing off the classics you grew up with like Baldur’s Gate 2, Planescape, Arcanum etc and the younger gamer looks like you personally offended them, won’t even try them out because of how old they are. You, indignant start by saying that they’re not that old, you were only a junior in high school when they came out after all, then realize that was 25 years ago.

Goddamn kids ruin everything grumblegrumble
