Shit that reminds you that you’re getting old - Re: Fwd: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Fwd: Damn young’uns

The older you get the more you lose. It sucks.
I recently learned that one particular relative that I hadn't spoken to in years had died, and their spouse was brain rotting in a nursing home. I was disappointed because relative had had a swift death through a sudden stop; I'd always fantasised about them dying the slow and painful death that they'd thoroughly earned.

Some people don't deserve to die. They deserve to hang on and on in misery.

Yeah, that happened with my dad. He said some horrible things, I stopped talking to him for the rest of his life and found out he died through my brother.

My dad died when i was 16 from aggressive brain cancer. I'm kinda glad he was a horrible abusive arsehole, but it always made me appreciate the time i had with the people i care for.

My joints… they really hurt.
I sort of feel like all the light and joy has gone out of the world, and I don’t know if that’s me feeling old or just that all the light and joy has gone out of the world.
Also trying to explain ambient techno to my kids and them being unable to even conceive of the 80/90s. It’s like the Jurassic to them, it’s not real. It’s a meme. I must have done this to my parents about the fifties and sixties.

Why not both?

At least the '80s and '90s had something in common with the '50s and '60s: there was no "social media", no "smartphone zombies", nor "social justice" unique to Current Year.

That was my reaction when someone replied to me on here that they didn't know who OJ was.
The parents of my then-boyfriend were on vacation in the Australian Outback, and they told us they couldn't believe the number of Aboriginal folks who wanted to know more about the case.
People that didn't have phones and TV were wanting to know everything.

Had someone ask me what a walkman was when i was talking about music.
Aren't tapes getting popular again with hipster faggot children? Speaking of walkman Sony released a DAP player in the shape of a walkman. My autistic arse wanted it so bad.

Oh, yes. You couldn't get away from that story. It's become like 9/11 if you lived then.

"Where were you when the OJ verdict happened?"

There are some bands and musicians who release their music on tapes, but it's largely very genre specific, and the more normie friendly genre bands only release tapes because some younger fans consider them collectibles of sorts. Some people miss owning physical copies of albums, and tapes are much cheaper to get done than vinyl. Personally I think going with tapes over CDs is goofy.

I think there were some vaporwave albums released on MiniDisc several years ago. Talk about a forgotten format.

Maybe that means getting a working tape player can be easier now?

(I got a collection of tapes of mostly stuff I taped in the 90s.)

There's new cassette players being made but they all use the same absolute dogshit guts and don't have Dolby noise reduction or anything like it

You'd probably be better off fixing a period appropriate player and it's usually pretty easy -- replacing snapped/stretched belts.

I heard this on a Classic Rock station today. I mean, it makes sense: the song is almost 25 years old. Still a hard dose of reality slapping you in the face, though.

The aesthetic for being part of the 80s maybe, and new tapes are going around niche communities and artists but the fad just didn't take off like vinyl. Even CD collecting is way hotter now.

I got lots of cassettes in good condition these fuckers need to start making some new, practical Walkmans again they used to just fall from the sky and were so ubiquitous.

I have about 10 pounds of blanks. Downloading "hidef" rips of 'rare' vinyl and versions and then dub. The concept and process alone makes basically everyone seethe. I say its a bit better than tracking things down on tape, and most importantly buying 1st pressings of actual boomer era music that is going to cost actual real boomer money and some can't be had for any money. I like the flutter and wow of tape sometimes.
