Thread for info dumps and a thread for discussion

Even non thunder dome threads are beasts to slog through. Look at wu or shmorky. 99% of the time I'll just looks for updates and skip reading comments.

Just not the Autphag thread
Agreed. On a case by case basis. I'm sorry to say the @Mikemikev thread is lacking, he keeps on repeating the same stock phrases, as a pet he's not particularly original.
Believe it or not whilst I appreciate the endorsements to allow me continued participation within my own thread somehow I don't think the moderation particularly cares for what either of you think.

Speaking objectively and keeping in mind that I would want to remain in it, my own thread is just as a redundant clusterfuck and spergish trollsheild circlejerk as all the others. You only want that to continue. You haven't the rest of the readership in mind and my thread remains an impenetrable tome even I can't be arsed reading for all eternity.

True, it's become a mess of catty insults, half-hearted white-knighting and esoteric comments about posts from 200 pages ago.

Should there be a cut-off point for threads, like a poll on the top to close it down?

Yes, splitting the lolcow threads to content and debate is good too and easier filtering.

I would say "No" to a blanket ban and "Yes" to shipping off all the spergy lolcows to Australia Thunderdome.
If a lolcow behaves itself and the users don't go into "Notice me Senpai" overdrive, there is no reason to split them.

The Mikemikev and Brad Watson threads are pretty good examples of how things shouldn't be (even though I am rather active in the latter).
They are dumpster fires and can be entertaining for that, but it's incredibly autistic, I'll admit.

The Mikemikev thread sometimes devolves into pages upon pages of "Lol u r pedo" shitflinging and the Brad Thread is incredibly repetetive and Brad uses it as free webspace to post his nonsense. There's a proverb "Everything has been said already, but not yet by everyone". New people can join these threads at any time and won't have missed much, but that is not a sign of good thread quality at all.
In the past, I was always torn on whether to close the Brad thread and ban him or not and the only reason I was in favor of keeping it open and Brad on the farms despite the autism was to give newcomers a chance to witness the 704 sperging firsthand. The only reason to even have an open Brad Thread is the novelty of hitting the Godjesus Pinata, without that, there is no point in keeping the thread open as a whole.

So, in short, I wouldn't mind if things get split up. Certain Threads like the Brad Thread don't warrant being open without the lolcow in it, but if they were closed down, nothing of value would be lost.
But I would not make this the standard go-to method, more of a rule that is enforced with an iron fist against spergy threads.
KF wouldn't be KF without the self-awareness that some things are more spergy than others.

I don't have a ton of experience with cows in their own threads I always seem to miss out.
The one time I did was the solidmario thread which over the course of 2 days tripled in size when for months it was about 50 pages of him getting mad about being screen capped on DA. Suddenly he shows up and people crawl out of the wood work to make 'you wanna bang Bart jokes.' It went from funny to completely unreadable so I unfollowed it. I think thread banning him might have scared him away but it's really no big loss. His autism has brought him here before and it'll do it again.
So my vote is in the herd the cows into their own pasture.

On the one hand I can see why some of the threads might need to be pruned, but on the other having the subject chimping out in the thread is the main source of amusement. The @Mikemikev thread just wouldn't be as funny if it was solely updates on his behavior off-site every few days, for example.

What about the something like the Kengle thread? It is basically a thunderdome - in a way.

There's only 4-5 comments per page about boiled hamburgers. The autism is turned down there.

One thing I've always liked about kiwi farms is the idea of trying to keep threads relatively clean. Other lolcow sites like PULL and GOMI I find almost unreadable, because they have 500 pages of people quoting each other just to say "I agree" or "lol" or just posting reaction images or emojis. Null has gotten rid of most of that here. We have dumb arguments with lolcows and "sorry for double posting" meme but it's not nearly as cancerous as those other sites, IMO.
1. Kiwi Farms is already great and efficient
2. Kiwi Farms could be MORE efficient

I think a lot of it could be filtered out if there was a way of easily boiling a thread down into its "greatest hits", say filter posts by "informative"/"winner" rating or whatever, or have OP edits with links to major events/content the cow supplies. I've tried "catching up" on some of the older lolcows but new stuff is (naturally) followed by ten pages of discussion/reaction.

When the cow turns up and engages, I guess it depends on the quality/effort involved. Splitting the thread may work (but might clutter the forum), because that way if the cow decides he's going to confess his love for banging underage Korean girls in the argument thread, you can post it to the content thread.

Agreed. The problem isn't content getting muddled by cows showing up, it's just all the pages and pages of comments. Look at a normal cwc thread. 99% of the time it's only worthwhile to read the op and move on

Honestly I don't think anything should be done at all unless there's a blatant disregard for da rulez and spam is out the ass
Otherwise its fair game and the only reason this deformed extra teet is still producing

Or Allison or Dobson. Heck, I'm pretty sure Dobson was the first "second thread" lolcow ever, and he never showed his face once. If the problem is the Solidmario thread becoming a shitshow, then threadban him, problem solved.

I remember when the Shaner thread was considered a lowlight of the farms, and now every thread where a lolcow posts is like Shaner but eternal.
Shaner was a slightly different case in that he was being actively trolled by weens.

This is why I'm keen on some kind of filtering option, preferably by rating but it could even be post length- not many of the (perfectly legit) comments along the lines of "Haha, how fucked up do you have to be?" are much over a couple of sentences. Have to admit, though, I have no idea whether or not that's easily implemented on the forum software. Something like that would also make it a good deal easier for newcomers/visitors to get the information on the cows (say in the event of a surprise Congressional run). Downside is you might lose some context- lots of effortposts are in response to the discussion or one-line questions.

Sometimes what happens is a lolcow does something truly despicable or hilarious, but then comes to the forum to shit up the board and that causes several people to miss a ton of info due to the addition of 30+ pages in a topic overnight
