Silent Hill

Synthetic Man's video on SH2 Demake, first 15 mins is about remakes in general:
Pretty succinct summation, as per usual.

I do think MGS3 will be worth playing since it's essentially just wearing the skin of modern faggotry but the underneath is still the original game and voice acting. Which really what it should've been when they did this piece of shit.

It's refreshing someone with substantial e celeb clout calling out the goyslop that over the shoulder has become and fixed camera angles are clearly better in survival horror. At least in the confines of these older titles.

Wow. Such insightful commentary and nuanced analysis that I've never seen discussed here nor on /v. Endymiontv really knocked it out of the park with this one.

Our boy, Andypants gaming, is pulling out all the stops with his bold criticisms of current day slop culture. Those 55 minutes gave invaluable insight into the current gaming industry and totally gave us, the consumers, a solution to this aggravating problematic. This wasn't just the useless rants from some grifter, made for the other lowest common denominator. No sir, they weren't.

Well done, Nerdrotic.

I think that makes it even more superfluous, if anything.

I played MGS3 at the beginning of this year as part of that MGS collection PC port and it's still completely fine (at least as fine as MGS3 ever was) - at no point did I think "oh, this game was really hampered by the technical limitations of its time".

Silent Hill 2's gameplay was never the focus, it was the plot and they focused more into deepening the gameplay to placate the modern retarded shallow gaymers.

MGS3 on the other hand is strongly carried by it's gameplay while having a strong plot to boot. I think there's a smaller margin for them to fuck that up. I may hate the character appearances generally but the game itself within cutscenes will feel the game, albeit uglier. There's questionable things changed within the gameplay but at least the areas are the same exact layouts and borders and the pacing will be exactly the same.

But yes, the industry isn't even dying. It's been dead. But that's not stopping it from making billions because of nostalgia bait and hype from people that can't be asked to play the originals of anything. And even the ones that did, carry the trans flag of "these games were built with limitations and they need to be completely unrecognizable for me to enjoy them."

The remake cult shit needs to die already. REmake will be just the one and done in the industry that wasn't gone at with a hatchet.

Like you can look at these and think "this sucks, and this needs to be the over shoulder action shooter that everything else is." Why would you possibly think this is inferior to the generic fucking goyslop of every game in the series is now? There's zero visual appeal and the RE engine is terrible.

The scare of the hounds jumping through that window in the hallways can't be replicated with OTS.

Unfortunately OTS has fully infected every studio and the experience of being a Puppeteer that tries it's hardest to not get their character killed is lost on them.

I agree with most, if not everything he is saying but jesus christ, could he sound any less autistic/retarded? Btw got no idea who this guy is so if this is his whole gimmick i get it but i wasn't expecting that
there are violent and autistic images in this video:

Synth is an unimaginative twat who appeals to the lowest common denominator of rightoid idiots with his oh-so-detached attitude and monotonous droning and by using that picture of ryan gosling as his av to signify how unaffected and cool he is. Transparent as fuck midwit who has the most pedestrian tastes imaginable that equally dumb people latch onto because it validates their preconceived notions. If you negrate me you're only proving my point and I'd bet dollars to doughnuts you enjoy efap.

Yeah the remake is going to be a bit redundant with having the master collection out. I just think they are really gun shy of doing anything more with MGS as compared to Silent hill. Kojima is basically a household name for most mainstream gamers whie with silent hill there isn't really one creative mind everyone connects the franchise with.

It sucks if you are going to the lengths of a remake I do want them to change things up, add things, and streamline things to re imagine things. Otherwise its going to be the same game with very pretty graphics.

Exactly. It's a remake done right - modern graphics with a few bits and pieces to spice things up as well as to entice players of the original game like me to give it a try yet retaining the core gameplay of the original. I remember saying "oh shit" when some Crimson Heads were chasing me the first time I played it, like feeling the tension from playing the original game the first time back in 1996. Plus we don't have gave devs or marketing people telling us that "we're bad" or "we need to be better like them."

But the SH2 Remake? I don't see anything that would entice me to try it in the first place. It's just the same story with the same characters but having fancier graphics.
I hope whoever thought of the crimson heads got promoted, or it was just Shinji. The height of "beauty in simplicity". Now no cleared room is technically safe until ALL zombies are burned or head-shot'd. I could have sworn RE2make was gonna go all the way with effort and add crimson heads to the mix, the ultimate tribute to the past + difficulty increase... Instead we just got cut areas/entire dual-campaigns. RE3make cut even more and by that point I said, "Fuck it, I'm done. Call me when the RE5make nigger-killing controversy inevitably pops up, I want to have some laughs..."

The crimson heads soft-locked my game. I was thoroughly enjoying it until that point, even close to beating it. I wish you could turn them off 'cause now I never want to attempt it again. Yeah, I may be a scrub or whatever, but the game's resource pool doesn't even accommodate resurrecting zombies well.

Helped REmake1 was made within five or so years of the original with what I'd presume is most of the original staff lead by Mikami wanting to do everything they couldn't do on the PS1. A true passion project.

I'm pretty okay with the SH2 remake, I think it's gonna end up like the REmakes where I just enjoy trying to speed through it with arbitrary rules I make up for a mindless challenge when I'm bored.

Having said that:

the prison section in the remake might actually make me completely drop the playthrough. it's like playing suffering or evil within, it is NOTHING like silent hill
The prison, which I kept hyping up to be some real mind fuck to my better half, was a slap to the face when I realized it was nothing like the original. When I saw how huge the map was, I was expecting some spooks but instead got some bizarre action game with no spooks.

I saw they did a half assed attempt at adding that demonic "are you sure/ritual" line but I didn't even hear it in game, only learned of it being tucked away in some corner when a youtube video showed it off.

Labyrinth started off alright before devolving into fighting waves of enemies at the end.

Not too sure why the order of events was changed with the encounters Maria and Angela.

In the remake, Angela's woman's intuition shouldn't be sensing James thirsting for Maria if he didn't know she was still alive in the prison cell.

Iirc in the original you find Maria first before Angela and it's clear James wants that dead wife strange so it makes a lot more sense when Angela starts calling him out that "he found someone else."

I think the more action oriented gameplay of SH2 remake would fit SH1 more since Harry seemed like a more capable commando than the harden STARS members with how much better and smoother he controls at the time.

Shit, took Outbreak File 2 until you could walk while aiming and then years again until you could that in a mainline game. Harry could take out Chris by just side stepping.

Plus SH1 isn't supposed to be the main characters somber pity party where I feel huge disconnect with the action and the story. Harry bashing the ever loving shit out of demons to save his daughter feels more in character than a terminally depressed widower who gets upset at pizza.

I think I'd be harder on the SH2 remake though if I wasn't just tired of SH2 well over a decade before it was even a thing. I tend to skip it and just play the original and 3 when I'm a marathon mood.

The bar has been lowered so low by the Hulette era and whatever the hell walking simulator thing that came out this year that I don't really feel much of anything when it comes to SH post 2004. Hence my "it's pretty okay."

The saddest fact is, this is the best of three new wave Silent Hill projects they released so far (other two being "interactive show" Silent Hill: Ascension and retarded walking sim Silent Hill: The Short Message that deals with very serious subject of people being mean on social media).
The remake is also the only one of those projects that actually takes place in Silent Hill.
