Silent Hill

I just realized that there’s two horror movie adaptations of a video game coming out at the end of this month: Return to Silent Hill and Iron Lung.

And I’m willing to bet the one based on a small indie game and made by Markiplier will be better received and more accurate to the source material than the one with a multi million dollar budget based on one of the most beloved video games ever.

I for one expect to laugh. It's like the RE movies, complete stupidity but entertaining.
I more so find it disappointing. There’s a lot of potential in the world of Silent Hill, but they continue to squander it every time. Resident Evil has always been a lot campier, and broader in its horror, so when they make a shitty movie it sort of fits more. Resident Evil is the franchise that started with “the master of unlocking” and “Jill sandwich.”

By the way, this actress is playing four roles in the movie: Mary, Maria, Moth-Maria….

And Angela.
I'm guessing the idea is that they all represent an aspect of James' psyche, but that's the kind of idea that only sounds good on paper for like 5 seconds before you realize how retarded it would be in execution.
Unless you're Christophe Gans, that is.

I have zero intention of watching this pile of shit be it pirated or otherwise, but I heard talk that
A bunch of shit from the terrible first movie is present, Mary's the daughter of a cult leader that repeatedly poisoned her which is why she's sick, and she asks James to basically mercy kill her in it instead of James getting a pillow and doing the job himself like in the game, we don't even get a scene where he loads up a VHS and watches himself do it.

Now, I'm no loremaster here, but I feel like that would CHANGE THE ENTIRE POINT OF THE FUCKING GAME.

When even Rotten Tomatoes won’t glaze your ass.

Just watch this instead.

Christoph Gaines was on my shitlist after the first one... now he is doubly so. I hope his death is long, painful, and boring.

RtSH felt like an extended SH2-themed art piece. It's one of those works that's 100% vibes and the longer you try to think about it the worse it gets.

Im not against this in principle, you could retool the story to be exclusively about James' plight and cut out the side stories which existed in game to establish lore. I'd say it makes movie sense to just have a bunch of Maria's to represent different aspects of their personalities.

That's bizarre, cause then why would James even have guilt for killing her at that point? The whole point was his tortured abusive relationship that dragged on for years. It's not just that he mercy killed her it's how they treated each other like shit despite caring so much for each other. That they couldn't enjoy her final years together because of stress and anger.

I got their relationship broke down because of Mary's illness, not that it was abusive? James only killed Mary, not beat her up.

I didn't say either of these things. Their relationship became abusive because of her illness. They argued, James felt helpless, Mary was always angry and then eventually James put her down to escape his own helplessness but also to end her suffering. Conflicted by this and depressed from being alone for years after we then roll into the events of the game.
