Rory aside, copying is idiotic when you're young, unless you're copying an old master. Stylizing is something people should only start to attempt after they've learned proper anatomy and technique. As Pablo Picasso once said, “Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist.”
I have to disagree with this. Many young artists learn through copying a favorite style, and that's a completely normal and totally fine thing to do. Whether they go on to learn anatomy and all that jazz is up to them, and isn't really mandatory for your run of the mill hobbyist. I'm definitely in the "you need to know what you're breaking before you can break it" camp, but I also don't know any artists who started finding their ways as artists by copying old masters instead of anime or comic books. Foundation stuff always came later, and sometimes it didn't come until college.

Sorry, that was my bad. I should have said young adult, not just 'young'. Yeah if you're like 12, whatever motivates you to draw and improve is fine. But I doubt whoever drew the aforementioned Rory clone is younger than 16.

Once you've gotten into the swing of drawing and enjoy the act itself and not just the subject matter, you should be honing your skills by senior year if you intend to make a career out of it. Colleges don't like to see a portfolio full of anime and Steven Universe. Even Rory had the sense to keep her fishface troon fanart out of the portfolio she submitted to CalArts. But these kids are known to walk up to college representatives with folders stuffed with Homestuck fanart- good luck getting a scholarship with that.

So drudging up somethings through the "Fullmetal Alchemist" Tumblr tag...

I unearthed this little 'beauty':

So this person going by 'Asheds' on Deviantart and Tumblr has created/is creating this fancomic? for FMA featuring a bunch of special brand of Tumblr OCs.

The most egregious of these OCs is one of them that is shipped with the main character, named Ash.
She is a fat black mouse chimera with vitiligo who's shipped with the main character, Edward Elric.

There are tons more of those, but I rather not post them all.

Does she have an evil counterpart also with vitiligo but it looks like tear stains down her face?

Holy shit.

I mean the outfit she does have is at least a little cute (if a bit out of character) instead some ugly frumpy garbage redesign like your typical Starfire "fixes"View attachment 308629
If you get rid of Korey's long hair you fail automatically. "Hey guys lets take the focal point of the character's design and get rid of it! Not like its iconic or anything"

Starfire redesigns frequently completely misunderstand her character and strip her of all her recognizable traits because they are about ideology and not about the character . It's purely about de-sexualizing her character and there's the implicit assumption that there is nothing to her but eye candy and nobody could genuinely like and care about her as she is now, so they "fix" her so can be a proper female character with dignity. As if she has no dignity now because she wears revealing clothes (ironically super sexist).

She's one of my favs and I'm deeply annoyed when feminists fake care about Starfire. "Oh I love Starfire~ I just hate to see her disrespected by how sexualized she is." If you don't like Starfire's overt sexuality, then you don't like Starfire. She's an alien whose sexuality and emotions are less inhibited than a human's. That's the point of her.

True. The artist makes cute outfits in her redesigns, they're just...not really fitting for the character. Although, her supergirl redesign is cute.

Her designs for characters are cute, just usually unfitting for that character. She had a adorable Harley Quinn redesign, though

I don't understand why she redesigns due to "oversexual" content, because her art used to have those "over sexual" content, but showed their strengths.

This last picture is my favorite. Used to be my profile picture. Gonna make it my pic again. Thing is, her old art had the things she seems to want to redesign...yet, still showed the character's personality.

Some of the redesigns are cute, but not really fitting for the characters. Like Donna's outfit. The blue parts would've looked nicer if it was red.

(Why does he have wrist scars??)

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Why is one hand so much larger than the other in the last one? I could care less about the shitty feel good about validation and the obvious body harm scars and brownwashing (I think it's supposed to be Deku from MHA) why is one hand so much bigger than the other?

i think i figured out why some of this art really irks me
late i know, but i realized this is basically a fetish disguising itself as something more

at least porn and the like it doesn't try to convince itself it's for a greater cause, but when a lot is made for a person or a group of specific people you end up with "everyone acts the same" (this guy is now gay.. and this guy is gay too.. and so is this guy)

some of the art in this thread take it further, not only are so many characters acting the same (uwu i'm trans, uwu let's fight nazis, uwu you go girl, uwu so progressive) but they LOOK alike too.

at this point for so much of the art is "generic black-trans/muslim/tan-person-with-skin-condition but now dressed like famous character" i can only really conclude that these people just get hot over so same person over and over and just dress them up for PROGRESSIVE POINTS (uwu)

these guys need to come out and admit they want big black girl dick and stop trying to pass themselves as something other that minority fetishists.

maybe also learn to fucking draw

Sorry if this is a late reply - but no they're not self harm scars.

He gets them in later chapters because he (if you read the manga/watch the anime) used too much power when he still wasn't able to control it and ended up fucking up his hands/arms - so he had to change to his legs instead or else he'd cripple his arms permanently.

Wow they couldn't even get it right (literally), the art i posted had the left arm scarred instead of the right one...

It sucks because the artist is clearly fan enough to keep up with the manga but not fan enough to actually draw them like they look.

I remember when my older sister had to draw, paint, and color in over 20+ ways to get into an art college. She said there were people who were submitting, literally, just five or six anime pictures in their portfolio, with nothing else. Said people's artwork were used as an example of how to not submit a portfolio, and why it's important to do more than your Sailor Moon and Naruto fanart. And that was before the SJW artstyle was flooding everywhere.

Of all the talented artists these kids could be copying, why Rory? In ten years, she'll be the female Andrew Dobson (if she isn't already). She's just another spoiled brat who copied Steven Universe on Tumblr and got popular solely out of luck.

Oh, but we can't have that. According to Tumblr, David Bowie was a culture-appropriating, woman-raping, lumpy-faced-reptilian-oatmeal-man.

She still ships her totally-not-white self-insert OC with Edward Elric.

This girl is a quality sped.

Someone commented on her page asking if black people (yes, this character is supposed to be an albino black person) could have blue eyes, which resulted in some sperging. Sounds like she wants all the SJ brownie points of having a black character without the trouble of actually making her black.
Sorry if it's late, but even if she is meant to be albino. She would have red eye and her hair would be more white

The dude with half red, half white hair is supposed to look that way; his mother poured boiling water on him. But I have no clue what the hell is going on with Sero and Asui. Is that supposed to be eczema on his cheeks and arms?

Also, how many times do I have to point out that making Japanese people black is just as racist as making them white? Fucking look at photos of Japanese people- they all have pretty light skin. There's no need to make Japanese characters "diverse", because Japan is just about the least diverse place on the planet.

albinos don't have red eyes, are you stuck in 1995

Technically, albino humans usually have pink or grey eyes.

Being albino also comes with a shitload of health problems, most related to eyesight. Lazy/crossed eyes, impaired vision, photophobia, underdeveloped optic nerves, and so on. Probably not things the artist is going to include on her super kawaii, diet-black character.
