Christopher announces his presence one day and proclaims, "Behold! A unique hybrid creature of my own design!" and hoists up a mangy yellow cat with red cheeks painted on its face. Kiwi points out "that's just an old barn cat you painted to look like a pokemon." "It is NOT! This is my OWN creation, Sonichu!" Sonichu then runs away because it's just a cat and throughout the series, Sonichu can be seen chasing rats and birds in the background/establishing shots.

There's an art and literature section here?? O:
Uh yeah.

Gillette just launched the all-new #Skinclusive campaign for ACNH clothes, and Twitter is hyping it up like the second coming of Christ.

This isn’t as bad as some stuff, and the artist actually has other decent looking art, but the fact this is a mural just makes it worse to me somehow:

Not to mention how the artist keeps commenting on how all these racist old white guys kept bothering her while painting it. Plus she uses “folx” (as opposed to “folks” because supposedly that’s homophobic / racist / whatever).

That aside, the art just doesn’t look good here. Also I think she works at or for DreamWorks? I’m not 100% sure though.
This looks nothing like how a mural should look it looks so bland and generic, really not good at all how and why did she get permission/commissioned to do this?

this isnt exactly sjw art, but anyone else a bit sad by how less intricate the art style became?

But that's a GOOD thing, it means they're purging themselves of wrongthink!

God, it's as depressing as it is predictable... just like those 20,000 "better" identical tumblr-fest toons...

This is what happens when politics beats the FUN out of an artist, or rather, they LET it happen.

If you watch the podcast of the crew behind Hazbin, you can tell they're having a blast messing around with animation, they love the art, and it shows in the fact they made a show about Hell 10x funnier and more enjoyable than a million attempts at DiVerSIty and InCluSIon shows with space lesbians.....

You can't hide the fact when you HATE what you do.... and all the hate for Hazbin is clearly because the Tumblr people who sacrificed everything to appease the Woke Lords ended up losing while those who did it the "wrong" way (Actually write and animate from the heart, about stories you WANT to tell, not what you THINK others will shallowly applaud you for) won.

Hell, the Hazbin people made a four-armed personification of vice and debauchery whose coked-up all the time ENDEARING by following the traditional rules of animation, character design and story, no matter how "problematic" and it works.... for me anyway. Yeah, it's an adult cartoon, but....

Re-watch the part where Charlie's on her phone
,

Now. If you're a sharp-eyed animation fan, you'll spot all the things done RIGHT in that scene. The framing? The pacing? The voice acting? Dialogue? Music? It's all solid. And it's in the middle of a show about demons and Hell, full of gross-out humor and over-the-top violence and no swear filter... But even if you didn't know, that little bit still stands on it's own as a complete story . In just 20 seconds they convey, with clarity and brevity, what kind of person Charlie is and what her motivations are without being heavy-handed or treating the audience like morons. There's no exposition on how her Dad likely doesn't approve of her and her Mother is probably barely better, it's all hinted at with just enough clues for the audience to make the connection (The plaintive "You must be busy" as the reason why her calls have gone to voicemail.) She doesn't have to have expospeak with another character and just say it while she and whoever she's talking to just stand there as 2d statues. Chuck Jones said that really good animation is one where you can tell what's happening without sounds (decrying Hanna Barbera TV toons as "animated radio" ) Watch that bit again, with the sound muted. While you can't tell EXACTLY what's happening, you can read Charlie's emotion from her body language and immediately get the general gist that she's unhappy about something, there's a bit of joy of discovery as it all "clicks" for you as you watch, you don't see that kind of care very often.

To me it shows that they KNOW what they are doing, as opposed to most animators these days who are making cartoons they don't understand for people who don't like them in the first place, who don't want to be entertained as much as see their political values affirmed and parroted by pop culture.

What you see in the Hazbin pilot is what animation used to be before it was darn near ruined by Cal-arts beanmouths and Family Guy "bro-humor" , whose elemental blandness and utterly bankrupt writing backing it up has turned modern western animation into a cesspit that can only be truly seen in all it's horror when the two fused together to make the disaster that is Star Trek Lower Dreck

I couldn't be happier for the crew of that show, they deserved it more than any of these other badly animated badly paced and badly written piles of garbage that don't even KNOW what they're doing.

here is the artist's instagram page. every single character has the same face... how depressing.
it's especially noticeable here

I browsed through her page and this one artwork caught my eye:

Here she drew art styles of different artists, which she managed to nail well.

Honestly, this is pretty refreshing to see since most of her artworks consist of same-faced syndrome:

Word of advice: To avoid making your art seem as if they look the same try to experiment—and by that I mean getting out of your comfort zone.

Not good at anatomy? I'd suggest learning the basics before breaking them down into your stylistic choice.

Not satisfied with your art style? Try copying art styles from artists you admire, then break down the elements you like. It'll soon be an art style of your own.

Experiment, experiment, experiment.

The internet is a vast place when it comes to tutorials, so try learning a new drawing skill—even if it means a difficult lesson.

Whether or not you like or dislike Hazbin Hotel, you have to applaud the creators for at least making a cartoon with some heart in it.

That thumbnail with the "How I found my art style" caught my attention cos I'd like to know so I checked it out.

Really taking your own advice. Seriously, this advice isn't taken into consideration at all as all the characters pull of the same tired-looking expression, waist-up shots and a couple even doing the same pose, the only things that stand out are the fan art cos the characters are recognisable.

2.png

And the one time you do follow your advice, it's a terrible one. I'm still trying to fathom why the artist thinks this! Why would you limit yourself to certain colours? One great example would be Glitched Puppet who uses magenta a lot and nothing really stands out. If you have a variety of colours in your gallery thumbnails, your eyes will be drawn to the pieces that pop like if the artist uploads a dark drawing next to bright colours or if you have a sequence of unified drawings, that'll stand out because of similar traits.

And personally, I'm sick of pastels.

3.png

The practice part is good advice but I don't get the bottom pink text. If your style doesn't define you as an artist, then what does? Even so, that's not true because if you have your own style and your art is mixed in with other people's pictures, people who are familiar with you will be able to spot it quickly. And to be brutally honest, her art doesn't stand out as it's extremely similar to art on here and I wouldn't be able to pick her art out as nothing about her art says "Phobeoscribbles".

I think she falls into the trap of making easy art quickly in order to get more uploads for Instagram so the algorithm favours her posts and gets more eyes on her stuff. She did say in another post to upload frequently and to have a consistent upload time (people tend to upload at times when there's a higher traffic influx). I'd like to see her break out of her monotonous style and realise her full potential rather than sticking to what's easy and quick. If she gets a loyal following, she can upload less frequently but having higher quality art will draw in more non-followers as they browse through hashtags.

Finally, I saw comments on the 2015-2020 post saying "Don't listen to the haters", Idiot! Just because they're not saying "I love your art unconditionally" doesn't mean they're wrong. I seriously hate it when people think fans have to brown nose artists. Good people point out flaws and give critiques.
I've been going through the artist's replies on the improvement post and when people tell her the old one is better, she goes in defense mode and doesn't listen. A lost cause if you try to help her. I made the critique in the spoiler cos I want you guys to learn something.

Whether or not you like or dislike Hazbin Hotel, you have to applaud the creators for at least making a cartoon with some heart in it.
Hazbin isn't my cup of tea but I can definitely see the heart and soul poured into the cartoon.

Edit: Went onto her Ko-Fi page to see what it's like and looked through the comments, what happened to the binder?
