It's cringey but it's also really genuine, or earnest. As self-indulgent as that kind of drawing is, you can tell that the artist really does love those characters.I love this genre of drawing where the mary sue/self-insert/authorsona has a cabal of big-name characters from their favorite fiction. It's adorable in a cringey little kid way, like yes, these completely unrelated adult men love and worship you, a random teenage girl, despite the age difference and how completely unrelated they all are from one another.
I don't get that same feeling from artists who claim to love a character, but then draw them in an unrecognizable, ugly way... Some people will say that is self-indulgent too but SJW artists seem more interested in getting approval from others.
