He rejects the fat identity because it conflicts with his "warfemme" fantasy. He would rather imagine himself to be a strong, tough, athletic arms-master, than to be constantly reminded that he is actually a lazy lardass.

He feels shame, but it takes a special combination of things for him to feel it. Basically it has to be something he's already self conscious about, like his beaver teeth or his fat ass, and then people need to draw attention to it. For a long time we would never show his teeth, especially in photos, because people were making fun of him being bucktoothed. We were openly mocking him about his weight, so he started lying about losing weight and avoided posting photos where you could see his whole body. He hates that he's white and tries to play it off as being a "white-passing Trans-Latinx".

The things Phil doesn't feel shame about, things that most responsible people WOULD be ashamed of, like being lazy, on welfare, covered in tattoos that look like a special ed class art project, etc., he's actually proud of.

So while Phil does feel shame, it's only over things he feels hurts his self-image and not over things he should feel ashamed of.

He actually IS ashamed of being autistic---if memory serves he tore up his first SSDI approval letter to show that autism didn't control him or whatever. I wonder if he's ashamed of it because Chris is openly autistic, or because of his brother being non-functioning. Or both.

That's pretty much my conclusion, he likes to separate his Asbergers from Autism and tries to draw a clear line of distinction between the two. He will only use it when he desperately needs an excuse for doing something totally perplexing that even he with rare cases of hindsight realises was in poor taste, He destroyed his version of the Autism papers because it was a constant reminder that he wasn't normal and would never be normal and that he is closer to his brothers level of intellect than that of the rest of the world.

Phil like a lot of people with a stunningly low intellect considers himself of high intelligence and prides himself on intelligence he doesn't really have he will collect books and papers on subjects he can't even close to understanding and will mechanically read the words of political thinkers but not really understand the message only to regurgitate it and mangle it in the process.
