There definitely seems to be a correlation between violent fantasies and going troon. I think the fact that society has rules really frustrates them - a lot of them go troon because it seems to offer an escape from an unsatisfactory life. Being an "oppressed minority" makes them feel justified in expressing the rage they feel at a world that doesn't revolve around them. "Queer platonic girlfriend" sounds like a ridiculously circuitous way of saying "friend." It feels like he doesn't quite want to say "we're not in a relationship," but also wants to leave himself open to #analrips. Phil certainly doesn't seem aware that they're not an item. I suspect it's probably the case that whenever Toren needs to manipulate Phil into doing something, they're in a relationship.

Almost all autogynephies have (or at any rate, had) stereotypically male interests before transitioning. Many were in the military, or in male-dominated professions (STEM, IT, etc.).
Rather than confronting the possibility that they might simply be attracted to the IDEA of being women, they insist that their entire previous life was some misguided attempt to deny their femininity. This argument breaks down completely in the case of certain troons who posted every idle thought before their transition and despite being shameless never gave the slightest prior indication of trannyhood ...

Were they though? I can't see many of the troons lasting too long in the military, but then I may he getting a skewed view because the only ones I've paid any attention to are the Lolcows. Don't see many of them going into or lasting in scientific fields either; you have to aggressively publish and defend your arguments. A lot of them seem to go into IT and similar fields, but I don't see many in biology, chemistry or the like.
Considering how weirdly obsessed with image these people are (for people who try to be homeless, cover themselves in shitty tattoos, and adopt the most contrarian positions on any issue solely for oppression points) I suspect they'll both try to spin it in such a way it makes both of them look good. "We decided to take a break from each other to find ourselves," or some crap. Maybe Toren is leaving "to pursue a degree," or "to protect Phil from Kiwis!" Neither wants to alienate other SJWs, and Phil is dumb enough to go along if Toren can spin a halfway convincing story.
That should be the interesting part. Phil is stupid and easily influenced, especially by people he trusts, but I suspect that Toren will loose a bit of that influence if he moved away and isn't constantly there to remind Phil what to say and believe. Phil can be quite abstinent. I also get the feeling there are competing parties trying yo influence Phil, which likely means nobody will really get what they want in the end, and Phil will wind up in an even worse situation (if that's even possible).
