Back in the day the Hetalia fandom was the worst. They're not as big anymore so I wouldn't call them cancerous now, but from 2011-2013 you couldn't escape. Cosplays and fanart everywhere, misplaced nationalism, histoical inaccuracies. If you were in public school all the time chances were you ran into a yaoi fangirl telling you how America and England just NEEDED to be together.

The worst incident was when a group of cosplayers seig heil'd in front of a Jewish memorial. Can't get any stupider than that.

Some of you mentioned /vg/ earlier in this thread, but I wanted you to focus your attention on a particular general that haunts that place and it's particularly infamous even among the other generals of the board: the Katawa Shoujo general (or /ksg/ shortened).

Given that JesuOtaku was once involved with it for a voice acting project before it got cancelled (was it ever explained why it was dropped?), there might be a few cow crossovers with that community.

I'm honestly surprised the site is even still up, it and its immediate predecessors (VidBit by the same guy, Wenoo by a different guy, and ZippCast) usually only last about a year.

I used to occasionally visit, and did the profile picture for a pretty popular channel currently on the most viewed channels page.

I'd say the tumblr fandom for Welcome to Night Vale/Audio Drama podcasts are not that well known, but are incredibly horrible. Mostly because it's basically when the content creators are 600% behind those who bully people off the fandom for making a fictional character white or have this character be bisexual or having a slightly different ideology from the creators....

Basically a prototype for the Tumblr safe space fandom and the genre of Hipster Horror.

How do you know what anyone looks like if it's a radio show?

Basically, a lot of the characters' appearances are a "whatever you desire" typa thing at first. Mostly to give the audience their own input on what the characters can be in fanworks.

Problem is that when it involves main characters, there will always be heat surrounding it. Especially with Cecil the Radio Host. Back, then, the common Cecil headcanon is basically a dapper, blonde, white guy with a third eye and tentacle tats at first... some people in tumblr complain on why can't Cecil be black or whatever, and while some people make their own versions of Cecil outside of the common headcanon, others simply just shame and bash other fans who do draw the mainstream headcanon Cecil. Nowadays the common Cecil headcanon is pretty much a vaguely brown, pudgy, fashion nightmare (to be fair, the writers eventually write Cecil and the Night Vale citizens to wear ridiculously bad outfits later in the series that makes the series more alien and distant than initially made.)

Another is involves Cecil's love interest, Carlos, with him having described to have dark, delicate skin. Which means that having people claim or paint his skin to be a bit lighter than mocha is apparently shamed for whitewashing. People also kinda bully some Carlos cosplayers off the site for "brownfacing" even if it's just something like a bronzer or are generally naturally tan but still light enough to be slandered.

And yes, they INVENTED the "Queer Unicorn BBY Couples" stereotype MANY people in Audio Drama media follow. While initially they seem like a good realistic, loving couple... they simply became stereotypes of look how happy and gay we are as they actually got scared of giving them realistic flaws and challenges.

Like there's a lot of NV wank that's been around and silenced for years, but the sad reality is that the staff behind the Podcast never really did anything to stop the bullying... rather them actually supporting the bullies thinking they are just that passionate about the few diverse pieces out there.

I haven't checked this since the one time, so I'm going off of memory--if anyone knows what I'm talking about, feel free to go into more detail. Back when Shin Godzilla was coming out in the States or had already started showing screenings, I was looking around for information about the film or something and I came across what I think is the Kaijuu or Toho forums, basically anything to do with Godzilla and other kaijuu films. I only checked out the Shin Godzilla thread maybe twice since it was a fairly big thread to read, so I can't say for sure the whole place attracts drama and shit, but I saw users slapping each other over Godzilla's height and arguing about the new origin story and others' opinion pieces on the film. And this had continued well into the days of the American screenings.

It was pretty lulzy, but I wasn't interested in checking out the rest of the forums past that. But it did give me the impression a lot of kaijuu fans, particularly Godzilla fans, are a bunch of entitled bullies who take silly monster movies too seriously.
