but there is also the fact the fandom is split into pre-awakening to post-awakening with the difference is that the pre-awakening have a very casuals vs. elitists mindset and post-awakening is pretty much what you said and I find both to be annoying.

Ah, gamefaqs. I still remember the Montblanc wars. The annual character battles still produces enough salt and hate that it occasionally spills out into other forums.

gamefaqs is OLD man. like real fucking old. And unlike banera, its forums are not why the majority of users go to it for.

At this point,The forum userbase is basically comprised of old, bitter boomers who refuse to let go of the past and naive zoomers who haven't discovered any of the more popular shitholes like /v/, :autism:era, the various gaming subreddits, etc.

There's snipey catfights that spill out from the forum to real life, people who destroy other's reputation by launching smear campaigns that they sell fake bags, just because they take offence at something they've said... it really goes on.

My favorite was a thread a long time ago about women buying Hermes bags online in "desperation", because the Hermes waiting list was "simply too long".
Idiotic New York housewives would spend over $25k on bags from shady sites and then be in complete "shock and horror" when they'd get their bag, take it to Hermes for verification and find out it was a fake.... then have the bag confiscated by Hermes.
There was even one lady or ladies who ended up inviting the counterfitter to her apartment and ended up with a knife being held at her throat and a year long tirade of death threats being phoned to her apartment.
There were about 20 different stories similar to this. One idiot even spent $40k and got a fake. Her husband was upset, so she had a mental breakdown. It was all rather hilarious.

I went to the forum originally to see if I could find one specific thing and ended up reading "horror" story threads instead. People with too much time and money on their hands do the most hilarious shit, so if you ever want to laugh at people hoisted by their own Hermes petard, that's the best place to do it.

What I always found funnier than the GameFAQS forums were their reviews. Their biased, poorly thought out, and outright batshit insane reviews.

Object Show’s fandom. Its like this simple animation on youtube that basically has items when legs go through obstacle courses and doing general reality tv shit. Its really children and the art style isn’t good. As you can expect, this fandom has attracted a fuck-ton of kids who have made fanfiction, porn, and OCs of the show. It used to be EVERYWHERE on deviantart.

EDIT: Oh, I heard of the Digimon-centric With the Will forums being full of snobs, and from what I've gleaned checking them out during Tri's run, they're not big fans of people criticizing Tri for some reason. But when compared to what I've seen on Tumblr (one of the complaints I've seen in passing is With the Will is not LGBT-friendly, apparently, though I don't know on what merits), they keep mostly to themselves in their own little community.

Wasn't CyberCubed a big name in the Pokemon fandom too? I recall him shitting up Bulbagarden.
Also glad I'm not the only one who thinks With the Will is full of snobs. The two admins in particular get really nasty over the slightest things. You're right that they white knight Tri, to the point where even constructive criticism of the show will get the admins accusing people of derailing threads with hate. Considering that they do a ton of giveaways maybe they're getting paid to promote Tri.

Oh yes, he's quite well-known in the Pokémon fandom. I've thought about making a thread on him, but his prolific nature gave me a fucking aneurysm. So he's actually shat up Bulbagarden? When I tried looking for him there last year (before Bulbagardens closed themselves off), I couldn't find much compared to the Serebii forums.

The pokemon video game fandom (the shipping fandom is a whole another story I can't get into right now)
The main problem with the pokemon video game fandom is that people blow shit way out of proportion. Thankfully it's only a small portion of people, but when you meet them, it really sucks.

I'll save some space and put it in a spoiler tab:
First you have people aptly dubbed "genwunners" who act like gen 1 is the best game even made and that it's vastly superior to the new games despite being a huge glitchfest and full of unbalanced and archaic game design even for its time. Trying to tell them that the games they played as a kid were heavily flawed will usually lead them to an unbridled screeching rage. I've had MANY, MANY encounters with these people in which after I mentioned I didn't like gen 1 a lot, they basically snubbed me. Thankfully this is only online really. It tends to be expected that you get that crap on the internet.

Then you have the loyalist fans who continuously defend stupid game design choices. While other rpgs are far superior, you have that subset that treats the games like the pinnacle of rpgs when in reality it's far behind in comparison to some others.

Then you have elitist fans who snub people who haven't played all the the main games and act like if you only like one aspect of Pokemon, you aren't a true fan or some bullshit like that. There are literally people who will snub on people who like to play GO simply because they think they aren't a "true fan" because they play a mobile game. This is despite the intention to use use this mobile game...to lead players to the main games (which I actually did meet people because of that)

Then you have people who clearly do not understand when to stop an argument. There are too many people in the online forums for pokemon that I've seen that not only blow shit out of proportion, but then have the indecency to act really dumb when called out on it. People will make outrageous claims about how GF (really Nintendo they should be directing their anger towards if anything, really) is going to go bankrupt with the next game or an obviously fake leak will appear. When it gets confirmed these rumors aren't true, people double down and pretend they still are, when they aren't. Best case is that the main pokemon (starters) got leaked months in advance. Even when, people tried to explain why they were real (it literally had anime concept art on it and was confirmed by Junichi Masuda at a convention) people doubled down and got mad when the evos weren't what they wanted.


Really, if you avoid certain places, you usually have fun 80-90% of the time, even online, but man, the salt can be real.
