What's KF's take on VPNs? I'm suspicious of VPNs shilled by big companies, but at the same time I'm of the feeling that Null can't recommend any because he's probably looking for VPNs that will never, ever sell you out, even if you were running a huge CP mill. Since I'm not of those type and just want to torrent with peace of mind, what IS halfway decent?
VPS free trials with openvpn instances are usually my go-to for things like torrent sites if you know how to set it up

For paid, the only one I've really trusted is Mullvad, it's cheap and decently fast, based in Sweden sadly. Tbh for torrenting you could probably get away with anything sus like Nordvpn but really it's a matter of how much you care

If anyone wants to manage hotkeys on Linux, I say go for SXHKD. Awful name, but really fluid if you want to secure your keybinds via chords, which basically acts like layers for shortcuts. This is also environment-agnostic as far as desktop environments and window managers are concerned, so you can easily make the configurations super portable.

Am I going crazy or did Null used to endorse a VPN? I swear I've seen him post about how NordVPN got compromised at one point but didn't report it immediately but didn't necessarily say not to use it, just to keep that in mind. But now in the OP of this thread he doesn't endorse any VPN. My NordVPN subscription is about to expire and I'm planning to switch, probably to Mullvad now based on the endorsements of privacytools.io and others here.

I used the same piece of software since 1996 for screen capture. Stupid easy for my medicated mind.

LView Pro 1.D2/32.

It worked back on my Win3.11/Win95... and it still works in Windows 10. Not bad for a 26 year old piece of software that I got from a computer magazine. I'm so damned used to it that I just never updated it.

ShareX is probably my favorite screen capture tool for Windows. Incredibly robust, and generally works fine. Its a shame it can't be ported to Linux due to being coded in C++ (at least that is their excuse).

Going to throw an endorsement behind voidtools "everything" local search engine. It fucking works like black magic for finding things the useless widows search can't.
voidtools "everything" is in the top 10 best programs of all time. It cannot be overstated how severely Microsoft has failed to create a BASIC FUCKIN SEARCH ENGINE for their own software. Just shameful. download "everything" by voidtools NOW! This is a threat

It's not just a search engine, it works as a rudimentary explorer. Drag and drop into folders. Or Cut files from multiple drives and Paste them into a folder, no problem. Absolutely fantastic program.

i'm looking for a software that can download all of a user's facebook photos in original resolution, preferably using jdownloader 2 (it is possible though i haven't found tutorials/documentation to do it)to achieve this

Private internet access was the VPN. But they got bought out in 2019 by the same company that owns expressvpn

Any recommendation on free VPS services for this? Seems like it would be a relatively easy and safe solution, but I'm not sure which VPS services are trustworthy and easy to work with.

They would probably give up your info if you did anything stupid illegal but Digitalocean and Vultr don't give a shit if you torrent and they offer free credit for x amount of months, once the credit runs out just delete account and remake it

I just learned you can enable the classic image viewer in Windows 10: Windows Photo Viewer.
No more hassle with that default slow piece of shit they came up with on W10 or using some other random software somehow begging for weekly manual updates.

W10 enable WPW.png
First you have to edit the registry to restore the file association:
Open Registry Editor, go to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Photo Viewer\Capabilities\FileAssociations, Right Click > New > String Value, and name it .jpg. Repeat this step for .jpeg and .png (optional: you can do .gif too but animated gif will only be displayed as a static image). Then give the value PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Tiff to the new keys you created (same one as the 2 keys that already existed).
Now you just need to make Windows Photo Viewer the default app to open those files, go to your image folder and right-click > open with (or Properties > Opens with... Modify) and Windows Photo Viewer will now appear in that list thanks to our previous manipulation.

WPW black bg.png
Go to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Photo Viewer\Viewer, (Current User, not Local Machine like the previous one) New > DWORD > name it BackgroundColor > give it the value ff000000

Alternatively, you can use
Used it for years, works like a charm. Open to.
