I have Final fantasy 7 rebirth I bought it at release and simply have left my PS5 collecting dust for ages. I don't know if I've simply grown out of video games or if I'm just bored of the ones right now. Literally sits in my apartment living room gathering dust mites.
I basically use it as a second PS4 I've played so few PS5 games. It's also a joke you still can't use PS4 controllers on a PS5 game, would be the easiest patch ever, PS5 cont has no actual gameplay features, but instead I'm forced to get two PS5 controllers to play Tekken 8 locally. Even the Series X still supports Xbox One controllers.

I don't disagree but what do you mean by the 3DS plan?
I mean they maintained relatively heavy support for 3DS leading up to and even after the launch of Switch. It was a similar situation with GBA, and it's because they weren't sure DS and Switch would be successful. I think they'd be wise to do that again, especially if they're gonna have a more invasive gimmick (Wii/Wii U) as opposed to passive ones (DS/3DS/Switch).

They launched a new model for 3DS shortly after the Switch released, and kept publishing games for a couple years too. It was largely downports and spinoff tier stuff, but it was significant. If it was up to me I'd launch a cheapo Switch Mini and pump out some more Pokemon spinoffs, maybe the remaining Wii U ports, and select Switch 2 cross-gen games for a least a year.

Taking a wild guess, I think 3D Mario is a guarantee for launch since Zelda will likely be MIA for another year or two. Splatoon 4 will definitely happen as Nintendo will want to get the online players early when the system is hot. Kirby and Fire Emblem also seem highly likely for a first year. Maybe also a new WarioWare to take advantage of any gimmicks, since that franchise is releasing a bit more regularly now. Then likely some kind of new IP given that their previous systems launched with one: Pikmin (GC), Wii Sports (Wii), Nintendo Land (Wii U), 1,2 Switch & ARMS (Switch).

Mario Kart is questionable to me given the DLC and I doubt Smash for a year or two. Honestly, wouldn't be surprised if Mario Kart and Smash are reserved for year two, while Zelda and Animal Crossing are year 3.
Mario should be there day 1 or they're fucking up. It's time for a 2D Zelda too. As for a new IP, I hope it's something more significant than Arms and Wii Sports, more like Pikmin, something that feels like a true new pillar franchise. I know Wii Sports is popular and kinda continuing, but it doesn't come to mind when thinking of Nintendo franchises like Star Fox, Mario, Zelda, etc.

Mario Kart & SSB almost certainly won't be year 1, I don't remember them ever being early releases. I think since they're still releasing MK8 content it'd be unwise to anyway with how well it still sells. It'd be a great time for Donkey Kong, Star Fox, and F-Zero to return (the latter of which may not be a pipedream anymore).

Sigh, this really will be our next year, won't it? Fine, here's my launch predictions:

3D Mario
random EPD4 gimmick game
TBA action adventure game by Bandai-Namco (possibly KI:U remake?)
Visions of Mana
That other Japanese game that accidently showed screenshots with Super Fami style colored buttons (This is a tell, any game that lets one of those slip is Switch 2 bound in one way or another.)
Hi-Fi Rush (possibly delayed by Nintendo refusing to give MS dev kits before launch, which happened before with PS refusing to give them early PS5 kits)
games that chugged on Switch running better with back compat
New Nintendo Account system that.... does the same shit the old one did but with cross-plat support so you can migrate from Switch to Switch 2 easier.

Mario Kart and Xenoblade X remaster in the fall.

What not to expect: Zelda, 2D Mario, Smash (they're literally just entering full production now, its 3 to 4 years off,) Xenoblade 4, Donkey Kong, Metroid Prime 4 (probably the Switch's lead game this fall), new Grezzo IP, the long-rumored Monolithsoft action RPG

I have a soft spot for ARMS. It isn’t great, but it definitely feels like it could be if fleshed out more with a sequel. The main issue with that IP is that I am pretty sure the Mario Kart team made it as 8 Deluxe gave them a break from Kart hell. Would love for it to return and see what they can do with it. It was successful, so why not at least try to give it some legs. They just need to pick a lane of either hardcore fighter or party fighter and stick to it. ARMS was way too wishy-washy in that regard.

Mario Kart & SSB almost certainly won't be year 1, I don't remember them ever being early releases.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Kart 7 and Melee were all year one of their respective systems. Melee and 8 Deluxe being fairly close to launch.

Most likely 3D Mario will be launch along with some new IP that will probably be the next Wii Sports, party game thing. Throughout the year I would expect we get Splatoon 4 in summer as, once again, it is a game that thrives when online is heavy. We will likely get Kirby and Fire Emblem as they have quick 2-3 year turn arounds and make for great filler. End of year will be Pokémon and Metroid, leaving Nintendo with at least 4-5 heavy hitters. I also expect another title from a niche IP, probably WarioWare, to appear.

Year 2 will be Mario Kart and Smash. Additional titles likely being Mario Tennis, Yoshi, Mario Party, Hotel Dusk Collection, probably 2D Zelda, etc.

Year 3 will be Zelda and Animal Crossing.

I have nothing against it, but I think it's too weird and the art style really isn't very appealing imo.

I have no idea how I forgot Melee, my first NGC game. I stand corrected, but MK8D doesn't really count imo.

That'd be solid enough I guess but that's a long damn time for another Zelda, isn't it? I know BotW was last year but it's been like a decade since the last original 2D Zelda and half a decade since the LA remake.

For those who have forgotten Nintendo's release cadence (read 'em and weep, Sony thread, cry out in terror any Xbox fan currently passing through) this is what the Switch's release schedule has been like so far. So we could get a lot of games each year but only rarely will there be more than four "big ones", with them usually being spaced out one per quarter with two in the quarter leading-up to Christmas.:

God I wish I could get excited about even Nintendo games anymore.

Godspeed man. Don't even lose your passion.

I tried getting into Manga like a month ago. This is bad ass enough, but a lot of it really makes me cringe.

I get you. I'm more excited about games in the abstract than about actually playing them anymore, but sometimes there's a special game I'll tear through. It helps if they're short, I find.

If you're a Mario fan those are the easiest to slip into imo, especially the 3D ones.

As for manga, if you stick to popular stuff it's often good. I've only recently went far outside my comfort zone of the mainstream (DBZ, Death Note, etc) and it's beyond cringe, sometimes it's just gross or weird. You can find gems though.

Holy fukk yes this is annoying.
I forgot all the time about the controller deal and find myself grumbling constantly.

@SSj_Ness
There is already a Switch mini.
It's called the Switch Lite.

Nintendo do not have to try, not for at least another 10 to 15 years when their aged millennials will then enter their "troubled health" stage in life. I surmise that is plenty of time to come up with an engaging game experience for gen alpha or younger zoomers. If it doesn't work they can always babyfy the rest of their properties, as they have done so with mario, mario kart and mario party.

There is Rise of Ronin, a game developed by Team Ninja and currently a PS5 exclusive (for now) which will come out on the same day as Dragon's Dogma 2 (March 22).

But yeah things are rather dry for Playstation.

Edit: While not a definitive proof of actual sales, COMG pre-order numbers are not looking well for either PS5 game in the nippon market.
I even suspect DD2 to be more popular on Steam over there.

I'm going to spoil it for you.

2025 - PS5/Xbox-whateverthefuck version releases. It runs like shit.
2027 - PS6/Xbox-whateverthefuck+1 version releases, at full price and bundled with a $20 Whale Card. It still runs like shit.
2028 - PC version releases. It's unoptimized as fuck but we can brute force it with 2029 hardware to run decently.

I can't wait for the PC version to be 300gb, demand an SSD, unavailable on Steam for the first year, and incompatible with Steam Deck when it finally does release.

That first year was stupidly good. 2023 was no slouch either.

Tears of the Kingdom was kinda bad
Mario RPG Remake wasn't really worth it if you had already played the original
Super Mario Bros. Wonder was okay, but I didn't finish it.
If you take away the subjective opinion, and yes I do agree with you there, sales of these three are still outstanding
