Sony hate thread

I don't think Sony or MS are in the position to be making demands of any kind considering the poor performance of both the current generation of consoles and their first party libraries.
Between the Game Pass destroying new releases, Sony timed exclusives failing to sell and the Switch/Steam being king, MS and Sony have to dance on other's tunes.

What's the TL:biggrin:R on the two characters being retconned as trannies in Dark Souls?
I only played Demon Souls on PS3, other FromSoft stuff hasn't interested me as much.
I have no idea what you are talking about except maybe the tranny headcanon that Gwyndolin is a tranny, despite being a male raised as a woman because of Gwyn's superstition. It's just another Bridget situation except the devs aren't in support if it. No idea about the other character.

And they waited over a decade to reveal this information because…?

I believe this like I believe a woman stepping forward and saying a politician who’s currently running for office totally assaulted her 20 years ago and she decided not to speak up until just now.
There could have been a slow trickle of sales after they stopped manufacturing the PS2 in 2013 that they chose to count. Or they could be fudging the numbers.

Sony and MS have lost their ability to order devs around and they are now the ones taking orders and following, not setting, market trends.

As a quick example, MtG:Arena is available on PC, Android, IoS and Mac. A console version was supposed to launch in 2023, then early 2024, then mid 2024 and now Hasbro/Wizards are saying they're working on a port that will release whenever.

The game works seamlessly on phones as it does PC, so why no console port? Rumours say that it's because it just isn't worth it, as there are so few console players, and even fewer that would play the game, to justify the cost.

A global game that works on phones is skipping console. That should ring alarm bells.

To be fair, Hasbro and WotC are filled with incompetent idiots. Master Duel works fine on console. As bad as MS and Sony are, Hasbro is hardly any better. This mess is probably shared.

Anime publisher and FromSoftware parent company Kadokawa Corporation said that it is ready for a purchase deal with Sony if the latter would buy it entirely. Sony, in its turn, is cautious about buying anime and video game-related assets.

According to a recent Bloomberg report, the companies have been discussing the potential acquisition deal for years but haven't reached an agreement over the "degree of commitment." However, they are now at a formal stage of negotiation, which is "very encouraging," as Bloomberg describes it. It seems that Sony and Kadokawa are ready to conduct a deal.

Kadokawa Coproration is a renowned company in the media sphere, owning over 100,000 anime and sci-fi novels and comics and holding stakes in some game development companies, including FromSoftware, the creator of Enden Ring. Recently, Kadokawa confirmed that it has 26 new titles in development, including 20 console and six mobile games. Some of the titles are already revealed. For instance, Gotcha Gotcha Games, Kadokawa's subsidiary, develops Action Game Maker, scheduled for 2025.

Acquiring Kadokawa would make Sony a "much more formidable player in anime." Also, Sony could make cinematic or video game adaptations of the Kadokawa's fantasy universes, further expanding the audience.

Recently, Kadokawa CEO Takeshi Natsuno released a statement, saying that the company "has received an initial letter of intent [from Sony] to acquire the Company's shares, but no decision has been made at this time."

In that case, one of two things will happen:

1) The devs will create games that take as little power to play as possible from both a graphical and performance base and if any console maker tells them to showcase the power of their console by making an 8K game, they will be told to pound sand.
Thank God.

2) The devs will pick which console is easier to make games for them individually (as well as where they will make the most sales) and stick to that one (plus Steam). Having to optimise for 6+ versions is beyond unrealistic.
Is it unrealistic? They were already doing it for PS4 & PS4 Pro, PS5, XBSS, XBSX, PC, and the occasional Switch version for a while there (PS4 family of systems are getting significantly less support now). Seems like it'll be a pretty similar situation.

They kinda are though just by default, because Switch can't run a lot of stuff, so I don't see consoles being abandoned entirely for PC. That might change with Switch 2, but yeah.

They would be a good studio to put on ips like Wild Arms, or Arc the Lad, but no way in hell would PlayStation ever do that.
They might but it'll be Arc the Lady, full of troons.

They're 100% fudging the numbers. The old stat was 155 million while the Switch is at 146 million units as of September 30th, 2024, which was announced this November.

Nintendo Financials
Q3 FY24(3 months ending December, announced February 6th)
6.90 million units for the quarter
Q4 FY24(3 months ending March, announced May 7th)
1.96 million units for the quarter
Q1 FY25(3 months ending June, announced August 2nd)
2.10 million units for the quarter
Q2 FY25(3 months ending September, announced November 5th)
2.63 million units for the quarter

At the rate they're going, Nintendo likely would have broken the PS2's record around Q2 next year assuming a consistent ~30-40% decline like they saw in Q1 and Q2, as their YoY decline for Q3 this year won't be as steep because of the holiday season. This means that the Switch 2 would launch next year right before the Switch 1 breaks the PS2's record as they go into the Christmas season. There will likely be a price drop on the Switch 1 which would alleviate some of the drop in sales when the Switch 2 launches but the Q3/Holiday Season sales will crater because kid want the newest console for Christmas.

This little ploy by Sony will likely help them hold onto their record for at least another 6-9 months. But we're totally suppose to believe they just randomly found out that they sold 5 million more PS2s despite them discontinuing the console's manufracturing back in 2013.

They continued manufacturing it right up to 2013, creating units which could be sold. Then sold an average of 500k a year (globally) over the next 10 or so years of a formerly popular console. That is a plausible scenario given there's interest in emulating PS2 or buying retro consoles. Then they bother to update their sales figures to try to steal Nintendo's thunder. It's plausible, but suspicious.

I get that it has somewhat been done before but it is not easy. Most of those consoles would cannibalise each other. You have to take into account the hardware of each console. Some games will cause overheating on the portables. Deciding on the components for each console is going to be hard too. And do not forget, the games will have to run on cartridges or something similar. A lot of things will have to be taken into account.

What runs on it and what does not surprises me. Hogwarts Legacy runs on it to my surprise. But if the Switch 2 is as powerful as the rumors say (stronger than the PS4Pro but less powerful than the Series S), it will eat the market.

The Switch's native res is a ninth of what the current consoles shoot for, that alone is a massive boon. Never count Nintendo out though, every time they took the crown and were named King of the Console Tards they've always found an excuse to hammer their dick to the wall. Will it be also going for 4K like the big boys and having a half hour battery life? Will it be Miyamoto dying (he's 72) and having their dev teams go into stasis with no ideas guy to start games from? Or will it be something mundane like the controller quality being even worse, when it's the worst of the three already?

True, they can (and have) shit the bed but we will see. Anything could happen. For a console to be crowned "King of the Generation" two things need to happen:

1)It has to shit the bed as little as possible (for the pros to outweigh the cons).
2) The competition to shit the bed in major ways (the cons to outweigh the pros).

Those two might sound redundant but they are not. In every console generation, even if a console does everything right, the others have to do quite a bit of wrong. You should not just be good, the others must suck in some way too if you want to win. The PS was good but its competition made the mistake of being underpowered for what the third parties wanted. The PS2 was amazing but its competition lacked games and utility. The Wii was good but its competition had hardware and software development issues. The PS4 was amazing but its competition was the Xbone and the WiiU. It is not just about what the Switch 2 is going to get right, it is also about what will the other consoles get wrong. We can only wait.

The Wii U thing really chaps my ass. I bought one a couple years ago to mod, and it's easily become my favorite console (at least for emulating). What I would do is make a home console that was just a better version of the WiiU, that uses a Switch as a gamepad. Not that you would need to have a Switch to play but that could provide backwards compatibility. You invite your friend over to play a game, they bring their switch 2 (just the portable gamepad) and they connect it to your home console (a Switch 2 base console) that outputs 4k60, and your portable gamepads become your second screens/controllers in whatever multiplayer game you are playing. I really just think they fucked up so hard on the WiiU and they should try it again, but better, and don't call it a Switch.
