GTA 6 is
projected to make $3 billion in its first YEAR, with an estimated $1 billion coming from preorders alone. Okay, that's a very tall order. Let's take into account how many PS5s are in the wild.
As of November of 2024, around
65.5 million PS5s have been sold, not shipped, worldwide. I'm assuming that's altogether since launch, not in one year. Let's assume GTA6 will be sold for $70 a pop. Let's assume half those PS5 owners buy GTA6 day one, that's $2,275,000,000 in sales. That's not even accounting for microtransactions after its online releases later down the road.
Could it reach that $3 billion in its first year? Possibly. It wouldn't surprise me if R* charges $100 for base price. The fact that Sony is relying on a third party IP to move consoles, while MS is transitioning into a service platform is concerning about the future of consoles as we know it.
