come home from work- put the metal gear delta disc*
40 mins of waiting time between the shit installing and the game updating itself.

gta 6 will be the last game i ever play on a fucking console ever again

not even a new concept. they've been doing that since the ps1 days with some games. hell, some pc games were like this even before then
What ps1 games required an installation since all you had were the small ass memory cards?

As far as PC, i’ve been installing my own software and games since i was in 2nd grade. That’s always been my expectation with PC. But my expectation for console is you put the disc of cart in the game and it loads. No need to wait for the game to install and updates to be applied.

That pretty much went away after the 6th gen and even then the original XBOX having a hard drive and online connectivity hinted at what the future was going to hold after that point. 7th gen is where the convenience of console gaming mostly died. Consoles now are idiot proof closed off PCs with all the inconveniences of regular PCs and none of the advantages of an open platform.

The PS1 has no storage to install games, all data has to be read from the CD-ROM. Final Fantasy VII used 3 discs for the Full Motion Video (FMV) cut scenes, most of the game data was duplicated on all the discs so you could revisit previous locations in the game world without having to swap the disc again until prompted to do so. And that wasn't even the largest game; Fear Effect 2 used 4 discs because the game's backgrounds were FMVs, the game was almost 2GB in size and all ran from the discs.

What's your point, you still shouldn't need to install anything from a disc based game, nor should you be required to download mandatory updates. There is zero need for any of that, that's the whole appeal of consoles: plug and play, not plug and wait.

That's what has ensured I won't be getting future consoles. The convenience is gone, and you're essentially made to do the same steps as a PC. If my console disk doesn't have the game and I'm really just holding a licence to download it online, might as well get the one that lets you run mods.

i was thinking why this is so fucking slow. doesnt this shit has a ssd or something why is taking so long to install 30 gigs
Resistance 3 took 22 minutes and 17 seconds to install, with three separate installation screens (each with a progress bar or percentage counter, and one of them hidden behind the game's opening movie). Fucking ridiculous:
(also RIP Rage Quit)

I can jack off to porn, browse the farms or play another game altogether on my PC when the game is installing, something I am sure you can't do on consoles. I got GTA 5 on my 360 I downloaded digitally, and yeah it is pretty fucking bad. I know it's much better when you play the game with a disc.
As I said earlier, consoles became gimped faggot PCs. Give me something I can just put a disc/cart into and play. I already have an actual PC.
