Soyderman PS4 - Downgrades, salt, automation and autism. All because of a shitty game from 2004.

I'll wait for all the game journos to shut up about it before deciding for myself if it's worth the purchase. They give perfect 10s to most Sony exclusives nowadays (God of War, Horizon, Uncharted 4), so they've lost any critical value they once held.

If anyone picks it up, let us know how many QTEs made it in.

Well, the Black Cat model doesn't look like it's been hit by a brick, so if anything it's like when Chris Chan draws himself as thin. I haven't heard anything too SJW about the game, maybe Insomniac just sat her in a corner and let other people do the actual writing?

"Black Cat should get virtually raped by a violent racist GooberGabber!"
"That's nice, Betty, now put your white jacket back on and we'll give you a cookie."
They gave her a lead writing position for an unannounced project and rumored is that she might have written some Spider-Man DLC. So I'm not sure, I think in this one she joined the team too late, but given BioWare - possibly Montreal since she's now at Insomniac - had recently hired her as a writer I'm not sure what exactly is going on. Some kind of cronyism, I guess... which never bodes well for that stuff. Still, fingers crossed that this was untouched considering Insomniac's CEO had a spergout about Trump and the migrant crisis.

Actually a little surprised Fisk doesn't have a Trump wig to be honest...

All of that said MJ looks weird. Like the Handler in Monster Hunter World, there's just something off about her that creeps me the fuck out. This Peter Parker definitely did not hit the jackpot.

But back to the thread at hand: Here's ACG's take on it and it's a buy according to him.

The game is written by Dan slot I have my reservations on the plot, the rest looks fine it’s a fun game and I hope to enjoy it when it’s out
Oh... Is it written like his Spider-Man comics or was he kept more on a leash than when he works directly for Marvel? I don't want to spoil myself so i avoid synopsies

Considering that games tend to require a team of writers, I'm willing to wager some people were butting heads with him on some of the dumber shit - he's fucking Dan Slott, not Sam Raimi - but as for if he injected any self-concerned politics? That I don't know. I don't think Insomniac did anything that stupid, but I don't know for certain. I haven't come across anyone talking about it so that has to be a good thing. Places like Polygon wouldn't be able to resist mentioning it if it was in there.

Obviously there will be a side quest where a [female character] will get harassed by [white NERDZ] and you gotta beat em up.

The only thing in the video review which you linked to that seemed to hint at any "current year" political slant in the game was J. Jonah Jameson hosting a radio talk show (in addition to being a newspaper editor? Is that a thing in the comics now?) which I'm sure will riff a bit on the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Mark Levin with Spider-Man being smeared like a Democrat, but I suppose that's in character for J. Jonah Jameson even if him being a talk radio host is new to me.

Well, it gives people a way to hear Jonah outside of cutscenes, I guess. Same reason why non-radio characters go on the radio in stuff like GTA.

I mean, its not like you would be picking up and reading Daily Bugle op eds in the game.

Oh yeah, I understand the real-world game mechanics reason why J. Jonah Jameson would also have a radio show in a video game, because it's cumbersome to read editorials on a screen and also to liven things up while you're swinging around high above Manhattan streets where most of what Spider-Man would actually hear is air whooshing by his masked ears, I was really only wondering if J. Jonah Jameson having a radio show was a thing in the comics now.

No? I mean i looked it up and he was Mayor of New York before and during the time Octopus was the Superior Spider-Man (He swapped his mind with Peter's and was a more anti-hero Spider-Man until Osborn returned and the mind of Peter (which remained also in his head while a duplicate was sent to Octopus head ) took over while Octopus made a replica of his mind and became The Superior Octopus) and was working with a tv channel (from about the time Black Cat turned into a villain and a stupid mob boss to after the dead No More when a Clone of Ben Reilly was the Jackal and used Jameson to try to start the Apocalypse using the Carion Virus that had been retconned into something completly different) oh and Jameson knows who Spider-man is and because that was after Aunt May and Triple J dad's marriage and JJJ abd Peter got to develop a positive relationship Jameson decided to help Peter. Unfortunately Green Goblin memory of who Spider-Man is accidentally returned after he captured Jameson and was reminded by him he never won against Spider-Man after the death of Gwen Stacy so Norman combined himself as Green Goblin and Carnage to become the Red Goblin

That was all Dan Slott and not all the awful he unleashed so yeah i have my reasons to be wary of how much writing freedom he had in the game because he can be utterly terrible

it got like a 90 on metacritic so it's a damn good game. It took 4 years to make from Insomniac, the creators of Ratchet and Clank. It's going to be a great game, pulling an all nighter just to play it.
That better be the user metric, son.

I also started to play, the game is a lot of fun. Just slinging through the city is crazy fun.
There's so many side items to pick up that it seems overwhelming to me. I know it's optional but you upgrade your gear by collecting side items. The beginning game is a bit rough, I got my ass kicked even on normal. The controls aren't hard, it just takes a while to get used to. But, so far I'm having an absolute blast. This is easily the best Spiderman game ever made.

Tell us how the plot is. Also, is MJ still plain - at best - in the game compared to her most recent screenshots?
