You got the wrong account lol, that was his maintainer bot that I assume is now inactive because he's no longer a headshitcoder. Oranges is to this day very active on Gitcuck and shitcodes for TG regularly even if he literally didn't play this game for like a decade already like you said.

Ah shit I didn't realize that was even a possibility. But yeah I didn't doubt that he still contributed especially because he still donates money to Byond and is active in other parts of the community. Most people wouldn't be into it, but I could see the programming itself scratching the gamer's itch for some. The problem is most PRs these days are shit.

I think its part sunk cost fallacy. They put years of their life into a project and can't face the idea of it one day being gone or out of their control. But also it's part hubris, they see it as the only chance they have to make it big in the game industry. I genuinely believe there is a part of them that still thinks that SS13 is just around the corner from the next big tide, and SS13 will feel like they're actually in charge of a real game that can be financially successful and they will be at the head of something huge when it finally picks up again. It's funny how people that code for SS13 seem to only code for SS13 exclusively, instead of actually working on their own projects that may lead to some kind of personal, creative, or financial, fulfillment independent from SS13 all for yourself. It's like one big cope session for shitcoders that are too uncreative to actually do something original or requiring actual effort. Just look at most the shit being added to /tg/. It's all shit mostly copied mechanically and/or thematically from another successful game or franchise from recent years made by someone infinitely more creative.

As someone else said mostly coding out fun exploits once discovered. They also are trying to force in the "wallening", an update no players are asking for, the testing of which resulted in the second of three player exoduses in the past couple of years which has more or less halved tgstation's population.
