Spider-Man into the Spiderverse

Guess who just won a Golden Globe.

Not that the movie needed awards tell me whether it was good or not, but this may give it a boost in the box office. Nice.

(The Oscar for Best Animated Movie may not go to a subpar Pixar movie for once ...)
Nah, if it won a Golden Globe then it definitely won’t win an Oscar. That’s like the consolation prize of awards.

Not true, the Best Animated Feature Oscar winner matches up with the Best Animated Feature Golden Globe winner 9 out of 12 times so far (the Golden Globe for the category has only existed since 2007, for animated movies released in 2006).

It was the best animated movie of 2018 and deserves that level of praise.

I don't know if I loved it as much as everyone else did as I had minor nitpicky issues with it here and there, but overall, it is nice to see something besides Pixar/Illumination/Dreamworks get some attention in the animated world.

Its also nice to see Sony doing something good with Spidey again and actually did something unique and different from previous cinematic takes, as opposed to the Andrew Garfield reboot which was just the first movie all over again but shittier.

Wait she's in it? Like from the Edge of Time game?
Never played it, and I couldn't find a female one online for the wiki of it. From what I can tell via interviews, the female Doc Oc in this movie is an original, they had a hard time convincing execs to do the gender-swap in the first place but it served the story via good characterization.

I looked it up and apparently in the comics there's multiple Lady Octopusses (Octopi?). Sereena Pateel from Shattered Dimensions, not Edge of Time, an Old Lady Octopus from Spdier-Girl and I think another one that went up against Ben Reilly in the main continuity. Capeshit, amirite?

TBH it works because the movie inserts the idea of Alternative Universes, so with that premise anything is possible (there's a Spider-Pig for Pete's sake). Plus there's no wokeness, like her lamenting how she wasn't taken seriously as a woman or turning into a hero at the end, so it works.

I think the best thing about it is that it basically takes place in an entirely different universe. There's also a ton of little references, like it isn't Earth-616 (our Earth). So its got something for everyone, especially if you know comics. Morales was always a good character. Spider-Gwen was awesome. I did want our Peter to react to Gwen Stacy being alive and being awkward, but that might have been too much.

Ehh, I think it was okay it got skipped. For Peter, the death happened a long long time ago(he was the Spiderperson with the longest history of being a Spider-person) and was already dealing with the recent death of his Aunt May and the failing of his marriage to Mary Jane, to the point that he had started to not care at all about helping people as Spider-Man. Plus I think the age-difference actually would help soften the blow a bit.

We did get a couple small moments of Gwen missing her Peter though, maybe the people making the movie felt there’d be too much overlap between the two of he had those moments about her as well.

I'm one of those people who never really liked Gwen Stacy to begin with, so I was perfectly fine with the movie just skipping over/not acknowledging that detail in Peter Parker's life.

Peter Parker is in a depressive state in the movie, and it was sparked with Aunt May's death, and then his divorce with MJ. Story-wise, I think it made sense for him to react to just those two moments/characters in Miles' universe. I think it would have been too much with Peter reacting to Gwen.

I do love the little piece of dialogue when Peter reacts to MJ, and Spider-Gwen tells him "I went though the same thing with Peter, so I know how hard it is ... But she's not your MJ!" That was a perfect piece of dialogue for GWEN'S story arc in the movie, which also affects Miles' story arc in the movie. For me, that was more than enough.
