It wasn't like this when it was just a browser game. But that fad kinda died when everyone had a smartphone.

Most flash games are now mobile games. This 2017 video from jmtb02 is pretty interesting.
But BloonsTD5 isn't even that egregious with it's microtransactions. I recall a video from Ross Scott about a game where you had to survive zombie hordes, and each subsequent game was a junkfest: The second had a DRM that only allowed the game to be played in a now defunct site; the third as a crapload of microtransactions.

the game's ok. the studio won't let people mod which puts me off. As is how much of it is blatantly scripted, its actually rather easy after the first 3 days and before the last 3 days, even on the hardest difficulty. the only real problem is actually being efficient. at some point in those 40 days inbetween you ran out of missions and have maxxed out the tech tree and everyone is in maximum heat homes with a million coal, etc. as long as you don't fall for the automaton meme its ok. there's a reason people do meme shit with it for a challenge. the stories are pretty neat but everything outside of the first "story" is much much shorter. the DLCs scenarios are great with their differences and improvements.
