oh no...

I am hoping I got some unfortunate roll and not everyone starts as a nigress

I tried the game out and it seems pretty decent, yes the writing is pozzed with half the characters/population being brave wxmxn of cxlxr, but at this point I expect worldbuilding in fiction to be dogshit, so I just comparmentalize it and focus on the gameplay.

My verdict is pirate it now and wait for it to leave early acess, if they improve it enough that the gameplay can hold up against the terrible writing it would be a pretty good buy.

It has a solid foundation gameplay wise that can become something really good, but then again so did "They are billions" and they fucked that up as well so I don't have much trust before I see results.

There's music for every occasion. edit: this is alt-country by the way, as is the style right now.

As an old HoMaM fan Songs of Conquest looks good though.
What's the name of this song?

It's just a fact of life for the indie sphere, yeah. In the same way that you had cliques build that dominated in voice acting and comics and video games "journalism" that then proceeded to push nonsense, there's similar forces at play anywhere else. You have to cut your teeth as a developer somewhere, and that's usually going to mean subjecting yourself to either a writer (or a writing developer) that's going to try to insert this stuff and pass it off as anything beyond uninspired, woke-pandering dogshit.

The upswing is that if games follow the cycle of any other medium, it's just a phase we'll... eventually crawl out of, especially as translations of more foreign-made indies slowly creep into the market.

Pinebox by Slim Cessna's Auto Club from 2000. It's part of the original alt-country from the 90's. Halfway through there's another part of the song. Then there's a third part and it's a beauty.
It was the only non-punk like band Jello Biafra signed to Alternative Tentacles.

Check out Slim, Jay Munly or Reverend Glasseye, they're part of the same constellation. They change things up.

Seems to be a fact of life for the modern fantasy genre in general. Everyone is copying tolkien's aesthetics (which isn't a bad thing he practically codified the genre) without actually copying what made his worlds so enthralling and intresting, the internal consistency and care with which he crafted the world the story takes place in.

Everyone just uses the same generic medieval european aesthetic sprincles a bunch of coloureds in places they shouldn't be in to make their world "diverse" and calls it a day.

The worst part is when you question all these glaring errors like "Where did all these people with random ancestry pop up in a world with limited travel and racism?"

They always go "Oh so dragons are ok but a jogger queen is taking it too far?" As if they suddently have no idea what "internal consistency" means.

It's more forgivable in throwaway game stories, where people don't really give that much of a shit - but it's also a drought that means you're not going to have anyone trickling in to write anything halfway-decent for a game if you can't get that for a book or a show or whatever.

Though that said, that's sortof a consequence of genres anyways - zombie shit was fairly niche and interesting in its heyday, but it's just watered down to all hell and back now to the point where it's tedious and bereft of any of the charm that originally captivated people. Fantasy seems the same way - the interwoven complexity and enormous scale of infinite possibilities grounded by a setting was what drew people in, but nowadays it's essentially just the aesthetic icing that seems to sell cakes.

How to write modern fantasy:

Take either the stereotypical knight or wizard, then replace with a nigger. Congrats.

They have to do this because those characters are usually paragons of virtue or intelligence, and the average black person lack those traits.
Yeah, that's why it's called 'fantasy'.

Well, if you want to be "realistic", wouldn't an Asian be better fitted for a wizard? And there are plenty of vitruous black people out there, so having one of them be a knight wouldn't be that farfetched.

The problem is more the theming and historical accuracy.

Paladins have to keep their dick in a vice, they can't press white passing elfen ladies and tavern sluts.

It would be interesting if in a game you played a black character that had to decline all of that to preserve his chastity and white knight status.

Basically Baalbuddy's comic?

What, like, Bill Cosby?
You and I both know almost no celebrity is "virtuous".

Realistically, expecting a man of any race to keep it in their pants is for years at a time is wishful thinking. But that's why it's fantasy, right?
