Stable Diffusion, NovelAI, Machine Learning Art - AI art generation discussion and image dump

I remember over 10 years ago something of a similar controversy when a programmer created an AI into which he fed composers works and had them generate new pieces, and no one could tell the difference. It didn't revolutionize instrumental works, and as far as I can tell, no one even uses that stuff for creative prompts. No one is making an AI Bach for new Baroque pieces, even though programming-wise it would be trivially easy, as the rule sets for that sort of music are very narrow.
David Cope. You can still find the EMI source code if you look for it. It's terrifyingly simple for its capability.

Emily Howell has released several albums of instrumental music, but as far as I know Recombinant hasn't released the source for her.

EMI is over 30 years old and Emily Howell is about 15.
You see, what the AI produced could be recognized to it's era and often to it's inputted composer, but what was also interesting was how forgettable everything it generated was.

Please go look up who Recombinant has various agreements with and understand that roughly E V E R Y T H I N G available for you to consoom with your earballs has one of Emily Howell's children involved.
Looking at this AI art, I get the same feeling in many respects (ironic, since my forum Avatar is AI art). What we remember best is how it currently fails, and no one wants to look at this stuff other than to meme, shitpost, produce visual filler material, or, what it will likely end up doing the most, producing shit for coomers to bust a nut.
The criticism is always so inarticulate. You know that AI generated art simply has to lack that je ne sais quoi, so it's uh... uncanny. Soulless. Forgettable. Not at all like uncanny soulless and forgettable real art.

For the tinfoils here saying this is gonna be sentient, generate mona lisa level art, take over the world etc.
Please tell me how a sentient terminator AI is profitable, big goyums corps control all good AI and will immediately shut it down if its not profitable. And besides drawing shit like "William howard taft driving a honda civic" or "Steve Jobs meeting Fidel Castro" what practicality does this have except making surreal shitty album cover looking art.

Ah yes, thank you for providing the name, all I could remember was that it had some delightfully odd woman's name for the program.

Yes, because I actively listen to royalty-free youtube video filler music, corporate Powerpoint themes and D-list movie soundtracks. I consume this art like I consume the paintings hanging in the walls of dentist offices or the statuary in the middle of Corporate plazas, more recognizable when absent as space filler, than as something in and of itself.

Well yes, it's inarticulate, but it's also existed long before computers were a thing. Why does everyone recognize Bach, while only Baroque music nerds like myself recognize Scarlatti? Why is the historically inaccurate, yet popular and compelling movie "Amadeus" a thing? The idea of genius has existed back into the axial age, that a few rare humans among us for some reason are able to innovate, intuit, or create far and beyond the average. So yes, what most humans create is forgettable trash. Am I supposed to be afraid of the implication that AIs will replace the Thomas Kinkades of the world?

Nah, wake me up when Emily Howell generates something as infinitely memorable as the first few bars of Eine Kleine Nachtmusik (bet you're hearing it right now in your head), or Stable Diffusion whips up a new Raft of the Medusa.

The people that draw hentai "parodies" are fucked. I honestly didn't think the AI would be good enough to request specific character or details, at least for while, but holy fuck dude. Now there's not even a paywall. I almost want to start my own patreon with nothing but AI images and see how long until people catch on. I'm betting there's already a few. Sometimes I wish I didn't have a conscience... I'd be a lot richer.

I find it fun to try and answer a topic with a prompt. It's very difficult to try and persuade it to have two people interacting. It could just be because I'm on AMD and running AMD for this is more time consuming than grinding up every african child in Patrick's basement.

speaking of, the man of the hour.

this was very hard to get anything looking right with the meat or utensiles and in that picture the hand is very fucked up. I took it to img2img and tried to repair the hand.

Easier said than done tbh
We are going to start seeing positions opening up for "AI Interaction Specialist" or something to that effect where the entire job will be knowing the correct keywords to get the results you want from the AI. If you think I'm wrong, consider that "Search Engine Optimazation" is still a service that companies pay for.

Can I run Novel AI on my PC? I've upgraded various components over the years but I originally built it to play Skyrim right when it was released in 2011.
Currently I have a R9 290 and AMD FX-6350.

I'm downloading the leak from the magnet here right now, and I guess after I get that installed I can download whatever .ckpt models I want and combine them all together. Is that right? I see a list of Dreambooth waifus, if I wanted to use another one would it be difficult to train the AI on her to make my own model?
lol no.
I guess my view of this technology is "glass-half-full" due to my own lack of artistic ability. I just like to make pictures, no wishes to take anything from anybody else except maybe a moment of their time.
Make a basic MSPAINT sketch (brushes add noise so they are better) and you can probably do something with img2img.

Denoising examples. It's probably the most important parameter in these.
"A * drooling dog, white in a forest" I think color correction was added though.

Wait is this the shitpost/pasta or is that actually what Tay did because of pol shitposting at it?
Everyone was posting at it, including commies and sjws obsessed with Gamergate (which it started to hate, LOL).

It just came to its own conclusions and they pulled the plug and deleted all available evidence it existed.

When AI shows creativity and not just iterations off of a theme, let me know. Right now, it really doesn't positively create as in "seek a vision that conveys something and develop it", it just iterates until a Human says "I like this."

Take Ville Callio's crazy, hideous, but expressive style. That came out of someone's (very, very depressed) mind. (Also LOL at the Elsa Holmes arch corporate demoness pfp.)

Let's take this example of "maybe transhumanism isn't so great." Looks simplistic, blah blah, but can you do it? Did you come up with it? An AI could look at patterns in that enough and shit out some pile of vectors and matrices of that 'style', in time, but it would at most be copying Callio.

This is more about the MIC, but it's got his DNA all over it.

Or, hell, let's compare some AI iterating on patterns that sometimes turn out ok. Who knows how many rejected works came out of those AIs? Compare that to Gustavo Dudamel conducting From the New World by Dvořák, or the Swan Lake Suite, with instruments played by humans who were following the talented conductor.

There's a lot of over simplification or unawareness of the complexity and texture of music and art that goes into thinking AIs will supplant us anytime soon. I am not holding my breath. They might help with certain things, but the difference between a mechanistic thing like a drum or bass line and carefully composed music that comes together as an emotional experience is vast.
