To be fair, imagine if the first contact other alien races might have with us is "skibidi toilet". Or worse, imagine someone sends a message and some autist responds with "Temba, his arms open!"

There are just so many things to consider that we take for granted. There is one TBBT episode (I know, I know) when they tried to make some thing for alien communication and they said aliens might not even have the same senses we have: sight and hearing. How you communicate with that? First miscommunication could be "welcome to earth", "what's earth? We call this dkwknekdke".

Odo actually throws that one back in Worf's face when Worf complains to him about how security on Deep Space Nine isn't as tight as on a Federation starship.

My only take away from Star Trek: Picard is that Michelle Forbes aged into a milf. I’ve completely forgotten the plot.

She wanted to do movies and didn't want to be trapped in sci-fi convention Hell.

Nana was a good stand-in, though perhaps less believable as a tunnel rat.

I finished reading the Mirror war comic arc pretty recently and I honestly wish it hadn’t been so tainted by the mess that was “Picard” (honestly I wish most of Nutrek hadn’t happened but that could be a much longer post). I’m blown away at how good the comic books art for Star Trek stuff is, with it almost being enough to make me want to sit down and paint some space stuff of my own.
 
I just watched "Suspicions"

It's the episode where this scientist Reyga Ferengstein totally didn't kill himself... Even though everyone says he did.

Of all the times I've heard people say that Star Trek predicted something happening... This one isn't mentioned very often.
 
So iirc "Darmok" and "Rascals" are both episodes where everyone almost dies because Riker was in left in charge for 45 minutes, and Picard saves the day at the last minute... unbelievable it took him fifty years to make captain huh
 
Riker Is a good leader, but he's not a good diplomat. That's why they wanted him for the Melbourne, not Starfleet flagship. That's a job for the diplomatic french dude who will learn clicking sounds to make new allies. Riker was basically waiting for Picard to either retire or die to take his place, but there was no guarantee that he would be there. It's more likely they needed him to learn from Picard to be less impulsive.

Riker did well with the Klingons because he's an action guy and the Klingons are upfront, but he couldn't even get along with Jellico, who is also very diplomatic although with a more aggressive approach.

It's pretty hilarious how the second Riker is left in charge during "Darmok", he nearly starts a war with the Tamarians.

And it was Troi and Data figuring out what the language was about and why had Picard being sent there. Riker's first choice was going to be blowing them up.
 
What if there was some Rama and Star Trek crossover? 🤔

Rama is this giant cylindrical slower-than-light alien spacecraft with "reactionless drive" propulsion. It also looks like that whale probe from Star Trek IV on the outside.

the probability of a species without sight and hearing making it off their planet, let across the galaxy, are slim to none. that's why bbt is brainlet television.

anyone else we gonna encounter in space will be advanced enough to either understand these peculiarities, or just blow us out of the sky anyway - or vice versa.

That's the episode where these aliens have had like no experiences at all? Even literally emerging from pods fully grown.

Weird but fun episode IIRC. One of them literally picks a fight with Worf to experience anger and the other troons out to be a girl so it can flirt with Picard and "experience love."

What innocent times...

Lower Decks visited DS9.

Then I discovered this in a store yesterday.

Literally the first time I've seen tie-in with Kurtzman trek... ever. Except for Lower Decks, which has had everything from deck boxes to multiple game tie-ins.

But I can't remember anything I've seen related to Discovery, SNW, or even Prodigy. (which I did see on bluray recently but those don't count) I'm also not counting tie-in books though IIRC I haven't even seen those in comics other than Lower Decks. Have any of you?

(I also found some more old trek books in my stash. Will post later.)
