I mean in a lot of ways Darmok is peak trek. Finding some new life that seems so drastically different from us, but as we work together, we find out we have a lot more in common than we thought.

If anyone was to ask me to sum up all of Trek in one single scene (or at least the best of trek) it would be that fireside scene.

But for fun to ruin the moment.

meh Devil in the Dark (TOS) did it better.

The Horta are;

1. way fucking scarier
2. way more alien and harder to understand
and
it's the humans who are the bad guys in the episode even if they don't realize it.

Darmok is good, don't get me wrong, but it's just a rehash done with better special effects. Plus I like the fact that later on the Horta go on to join the Federation and become valued crew members for any mission that involved spelunking stuff. Some of them show up in the TOS novels as side characters.

Let's see what Kes has been up to!
"You don’t understand what it’s like to be a woman in this industry,” while she’s opening a third bottle with her teeth.

While I still consider Voyager to be lesser than TNG and DS9 by a margin it still has a soft place in my heart and it looks and feels like Star Trek which can't be said of anything else that came out after the series.

I suppose it's kinda like those people who defend the Star Wars prequels, because so much shit that considerably worse that came out after.

I wanna feel bad for Jen Lien but, I just did not like Kes and I just want her gone which I imagine her getting booted off the shot had some consequences on her life so who knows where she'd be if she hadn't be jettisoned out the nearest airlock for Seven of Nine.

I think VOY is better than the Star Wars prequels.

"The Clone Wars cartoon adds so much depth,”, “Hayden's performance was more layered than people realize.”

Clone Wars is boring as shit and Hayden Christensen is a bad actor. He’s bad in everything.

Who'd thunk that the high point of her life would be playing a 2 year old being groomed by a furry alien.
Every time I think about a Voyager rewatch I remember Neelix saying "Sweeetieee" in those early episodes and want to puke.
Seksa, Brad Dourif and Neelix getting his lungs stolen were all pretty awesome though.

It's like already gross to begin with but then you know she's literally fucking two years old. I know she's at the age of maturity for her species but it doesn't make it any less gross I'll tell you that much. He saved her from Kazon gang rape too, so there's this whole gross power mechanic where she probably feels like she owes him. As poorly written as their breakup was (She broke up while possessed by another alien.) I was so glad when they broke up.

The Ocampa in general are such a bizarre species. Either evolution failed them, or the Caretaker seriously fucked up their biology if they only live to be nine.

It could have been potentially interesting to watch her age over the remaining seven years of her life onboard Voyager. But that's not what happened.

The Caretaker was definitely a pedophile. You have a race that only lives nine years and the female Caretaker was a little girl. His array was the Epstein Island of the Delta Quadrant.

Ewan McGregor carries that series like Atlas himself, even Lucas couldn’t stop him from looking like he was having fun.

Voyager being better though? Damn, I think you might be right.

I’m currently rewatching it, first time since the original run, and boy is it tough. I’m only about halfway through the first season and it has been really slow going, I had wanted to do at least one episode a night but sometimes I just can’t do it. There are some decent episodes but a lot of dreck. Kes is the worst. She’s worse than Wesley.

The biggest problem though is the awful acting and delivery. It all feels so clipped and cliche, it feels like a soap opera most of the time. Coming from DS9 to Voyager is jarring to say the least.

I mean, the first season of every Trek is rough. Even DS9's first season has a lot of rough ideas. MOVE ALONG HOME!
Garak saves season one, as always.

In true imperialist wanker form, he insists the Cardassians did Bajor a favor by civilizing them, but the truth of the war orphans wipes that smug look off his face.
