Promotions are all over the place, i wish there was some strict rules about it (im autistic)

In modern day Space Force there are things like TIS and TIG where before setting foot into the academy you understand how long it will take to go from boot to captain of a ship, or even to admiral.

But in trek the grades and ranks are all over the place. Also there is no aging out either. Somehow Sulu is a 60 year old helmsman in ST7

You cant just stay a captain or be demoted once youre Kirks age either. It took a lack of recruits for the Space Force to allow people over 56 to continue in the service.

IN the whole three season run that lasted 10 years in universe for Enterprise, the only person who got promoted was T'Pol, and that's literally only because she switched services. There is exactly zero mention of Lt. Junior Grade, etc. Everyone who started as an Ensign or Lieutenant or Commander in Enterprise remained one at the end of the series 10 years later.

In between I read the Destinies novels, a big crossover event in the novel-verse. The gist of Destinies is that it follows captains Picard, Riker, Dax, and Hernandex (U.S.S. Columbia from Enterprise) and explores the truth about the Borg and their aggressive incursions into Federation space. I haven't seen Picard beyond a few plot points, but if the novel writers were involved it's a big drop in quality. Adapting Destinies as-is, changing only what they have to for actor availability since nearly everyone shows up, would make a great mini series.

It'd be one big holodeck! The theme can be changed. Starfleet Standard, Klingon, Vulcan, Romulan, Ferengi, the ship interior can resemble whatever I want. Hell, I could go with Victorian Steampunk or even a fucking cave if I felt like it.
Security? No problem, just turn the safeties off. The holodeck can simulate weaponry from phasers to bullets.
Crew? Several dedicated holographic characters controlled by independent AIs.

Just imagine beaming over to a ship and suddenly feeling like you stepped onto a 17th century British naval vessel but in space. It'd be awesome as fuck.

Modern military still functions through an up or out system. Either you promote after enough time and evals or you find something else to do. Kirk is fine as a Captain, basically equivalent to a full bird colonel with a unique function. A show following a Admiral/General grade officer would probably be pretty boring.

Gene probably never thought about it that hard. The drawback to that system is that you are constantly changing jobs and can't stay in one place. So people like Uhura and Chekov would have to change out for different people who haven't had their respective positions yet. Makes for more well rounded officers is a plus to the system since you never only do one thing for long.

Because if Spock is promoted to Captain he has to leave the Enterprise.

Minor note: while "Up or out" is the unofficial slogan of the US Military, this probably isn't universal for all militaries. For example, on the of the characters in The Bridge (1959) has been an Unteroffizier (which is usually translated as 'Corporal' and not 'Sergeant') for about a decade.

Spock was still on the Enterprise as a Captain during the movies, even after Kirk was demoted. They usually found ways to keep the core cast together.

I like it despite it's flaws damnit, it was the last official product that even tried to respect the source material, fite me for liking playing the game game as a Romulan with their own story that feel like it could potentially be a ST spinoff can't say i remember other games or media having it from their viewpoint. They somehow went beyond raping the corpse of the franchise

As long you don't do any quest chain newer than "Victory is Life" the STD and STP taint is mostly out of sight. Ergo the elephant in the room as everything post ViL is STD/P content. So far the Romulan and Dominion factions are still untouched.
 
So to people who don't like ENT intro theme (I think it's not as bad as people say it is (well the first one, I have not yet heard later versions) )would this have worked better?

Eh it's technically a little bit better than either of the versions we got... (I know some people here defend 'Faith of the Heart,' and you're all still wrong.) but that starts off as a shitty acoustic cover, and then devolves into elevator music.

Perfect Strangers Enterprise is still king.
