Any bets on another forced Data cameo?
Give us Android Soong, Geriatric Soong, Gene Soong, Synth Soong, and Dark Soong and then unite them all in a multiversal event.

Marina Sirtis looks like she's wearing someone's face.

Gates Mcfaddon looks smokin.
Gates McFadden is 73 years old and looks like she goes to the same plastic surgeon as Cher.
the later TOS movies where the actors were way too old and fat to play their characters.
Shat was only 60 years young when The Undiscovered Country was released. All the TNG crew are way older than he was back in '91.

Patrick Stewart is 82 and looks like a cancer patient
Jonathan Frakes is 69 ( :tomgirl: ) and looks like some kind of sexual harassment Santa
Marina Sirtis is 67 and her tits need tractor beams to stop them getting caught in her zimmer frame.

None of this is their fault, we'll all look old and busted when we get that to that age. But idk who wants to see geriatric space adventures in space. Space adventures aren't as fun when they're about characters who look like they're in danger of breaking a hip. Frakes and Sirtis were already getting too old and/or fat for these characters in 2005.

That was 17 years ago, btw :stress:

This isn't Star Trek, it's a stealth reboot of Cocoon. But it's also pretty wild that they have to bring back ancient actors from a TV show that went off the air nearly 30 years ago because nobody likes Alex Kurtzman's shitty new characters :story:

What's worse, is that this only encourages him to double down on making even MORE shitty characters. He just announced that there are two shows in development, emphasizing that they have "female leads". If this isn't the Section 31 series with Yeoh, or the Starfleet Academy series with Wiseman, well, looking forward to seeing what garbage I can ignore.

If somehow miraculously I hear that s3 Picard somehow makes up for the extreme bullshit of the first two seasons by having to pull in the entire old crew, that will probably make Kurtzman rage and want to dump out a shit ton more crappy series with hate-inducing characters.

  • We felt that we needed to bring the show into the modern era to make it relatable to modern audiences
  • As a director, I feel like a project is only interesting if I can put my own stamp on it
  • Peoples' expectations are different now from when the original was created
  • I think that in order to keep the spirit of the story intact we had to change some of the material
  • Audiences want to have their expectations challenged so they can be delighted and surprised all over again
There are so many stock phrases that just
mean we're planning on fucking this up
beyond all recognition
.

I think it was in Wil's thread where someone pointed out that Wil Wheaton is older today than Patrick Stewart was when TNG started. That alone should tell you how dumb of an idea it is to do a TNG sequel series nowadays, especially one that turns into nothing but action schlock with actors too old for their roles.

And yet, Kurtzman and friends prove to be dumber still.

As moronic as bringing the whole TNG cast back together is, look it at from Paramount's perspective. Nemesis, which was the intended finale for the TNG cast, ended up getting mediocre-at-best reactions from audiences and critics, and was a colossal dud at the box office. With Picard S3, you can guarantee that critics will be falling over themselves to give the most sycophantically positive reviews possible, and it'll be impossible to prove one way or the other how many people actually watched the season, which will allow Paramount to trot out the "viewing figures for the season broadly met our expectations" line. Fans will call out the season for the shitfest that it actually is, but Paramount will still be able to spin it into a PR victory.

If the show failed though, Kurtzman would just dump out a shit ton more crappy tie-in series anyway, because that's all he does.

Critics fall all over themselves to give the most sycophantically positive reviews anyway. All of these streaming companies try to claim they aren't taking losses on these insane projects. PR people could have a bomb go off in their office, kill half the staff, and then the FBI finds a note saying "I did it, this company is a terrible place to work for, and all of our projects suck - signed the head of PR" and they would still declare that to be a PR victory somehow.

Even from Paramount's perspective I don't see how this changes anything.

Maybe one these days I'll get bored enough to give Season 2 a shot and.. hang on, what was that near the end?

I caught the line in the trailer about some space phenomena or power crystal making their nightmares come to life, so I guess the clowns and everything else in the same scene is somebody's nightmare. I'd bet actual money there's already porn of whatever the fuck that thing is on Furaffinity though. And probably some of the clowns with Batleth arms too honestly.

The Caitian doctor I could tolerate because there's a mild amount of humor that could potentially be drawn from her and the situations she gets into, plus the fact that she isn't immediately recognizable as someone's furry OC and has a reasonable design, but whoever the furfag on staff is has clearly started to push their luck.
Oh god no they're re -canonizing Chakats!

With all these ideas they keep putting out for shows i'm still surprised they haven't done an anthology series. Sure it would be more expensive, but it fits with the more recent short season streaming format and it would allow them to do a bit of everything - say each season being set in a different era, tos/std season 1, TMP era season 2, enterprise B - C era season 3, tng era season 4, maybe following a ship or fleet during the dominion war season 5, post nemesis season 6, something new season 7 with each season and era having the ability to essentially use as backdoor pilots for full future series if they do well, or set up for a series set post picard series. Like I said, it would be expensive and time consuming, but it would at least offer something for everybody, maybe earn back some good will from viewers and open the door to other series later on

Thats sad and a waste of what was once a decent pair of tits in the 80s and 90s. Jeri ryan isn't too far behind in that department either, shes not exactly aging all that well recently

No it wasn't. They intended to make one more movie after it, which is why they killed data off in the way they did so late in the movie. The fallout from that was supposed to carry over into the last one and do an overall sendoff like they did back in 91 for tos. Problem is nemesis bombed badly enough that the studio dropped the final movie and the movie franchise in general for quite a awhile, pretty much dropping the franchise after they saw how it and enterprise went over. Thats why nothing was made for awhile and when they did bring it back it was the alternate universe reboot stuff. One of the main reasons stewart even did the picard series was for the sake of doing the finale that tng never really got and putting it to rest for good

Ya I was wondering about that too, doesn't seem like Worf would've gone all white by the time Picard takes place. I was thinking he would be more salt-and-pepper.
Yeah, particularly so considering klingons have considerably longer lifespans than humans and age fairly well. Just look at kang and kor in ds9
