It's a shame he's content to put The Orville away after this season so he can do a "Ted" series that nobody wants.
It's more complex than that. Seth left FOX after it got acquired by Disney (I don't think he wanted to work for the huwite slavers). He signed a deal with NBC. Does he owns The Orville entirely or was it co-produced by FOX?

The Orville would have taken a situation like this way more seriously.
They kind of did in the first season when Alara was put in charge of the ship after Mercer and his XO got captured and put in an alien zoo. While she wasn't ready for such big responsibilities, she never acted like a girlboss and didn't get her crew killed.

That is a DS9 recon as the TNG era Ferengi also had the trait of "if you want a job done right, you do it yourself." In which Ferengi done their own work including fighting.
Even then, it's a soft retcon because of course Quark and Rom don't want to fight; they run a restaurant. I doubt the Applebee's manager is inclined to fight Jem'Hadar troops. Nog was willing to fight, as was that assassin in The Magnificent Ferengi.

TNG Ferengi weren't all about fighting and war cause they were shown to be in other proffessions like science. DS9 soft recon is trouble some as it implied all Ferengi are big ear jew caricatures.

Voyager had the best Q episodes, fight me. TNG season 1-2 was retarded and Voyager may have had recycled TNG writers churning recycled plots, but goddammit if they were recycled they were refined.

Anyway STP, the pale British guy looked nothing like a Romulan. He was like the Rupert Grint character on American Dad.

The Romulan woman who played tarot solitaire triominos could have been neat, like Pythagoras' cult of math but with logic. It was wasted on Soji super special Data's daughter gynoid princess.

Want two ideas better than the current lineup. Fucking make Lal the Borg queen. And Warship Voyager, where they develop the hell out of their weapons and act more like in Living Witness. edit: And Chakotay tragically died and was replaced by a much better first officer.

I couldn't say whether or not Voyager had the best Q episodes... (offhand, I remember them being shit, but tbf I haven't seen them in a while)
Regardless, DS9 had the best Q *moment*, and it was this one-

Sisko punched Q, and Q never came back. Yeah, Q pretended like that was a win for him... But he sure tucked his tail between his legs and ran away, never coming back after that episode.

You do bring up a good point, but that Golden Age was supposed to represent the end of the Cold War (and was oddly proffetic) TNG era trek ships are all capable of fighting even if they are ships of exploration, they also have a hull longevity and refit abillity no other Trek Power has.

The federation had faught wars in that period of time as well, and constantly refined there technology even against a smaller power like the Cardassians they had improved there military tech and training even using older ships than TNG era most of those classes where still around at the point of the Domminion War, just for reference that would be like the US today fielding a Wicks Class destroyer as it rolled of the ship line in the 1930's without any upgrades.

That's because of the hilarity of budget restraints they they kept reusing the Excelsior Class to the point that thing's going for the double century mark. Which I find kind of hilarious but it's a really nice "semi-background" ship look.

Also, did it really? I'd argue not, Police actions at best with relatively minor scuffles which once again saw the military attitude burred off and compromise and diplomacy be the main aim of the game for many in the Federation because what's a couple of planets in a backwater settled by some colonists, they were certainly not used to proper ground fighting as instead of reviving the MAKOs just sending out soft and squishy poorly trained and hilariously uniformed Starfleet officers to hold territory.
And your right, modern Trek writers dont know any of this they also dont know anything about Military discipline or thinking and it shows and the show suffers as a result.

Well ya know, Military = facism rather than being used to defend the ideals you espouse. Probably why so much of modern Starfleet is like a bickering people's militia.

As I said Ferangi havent had a real war in a long time, they will sell weapons and make bank doing so but they will sell to everyone they are essentiall the Swiss of Trek, its all about the proffit and the rist to proffit trade off, Quark is a more risky member of his species but he doesnt want to dabble in weapons.

Well the whole other side of it as well is the Ferengi are quietly armed to the legitimate teeth and the later retcon in DS9 was the Mauraders and privateers were sent out to try and scare people into thinking that if you fucked them off too much then Zek would just unleash this completely bug fuck crazy set of deep space, long distance fleet of ships with people who could fuck with you and fuck stuff up at random. It also let him get rid of the more... eccentric Ferengi by letting them live out whatever means and methods they want that wasn't really fitting within the Rules of Acquisition.

This is something I have never been able to refute woke fanatics nor explain why I hate the woke version of trek.

They are absolutely right in that trek has always been liberal. It was always outspoken about racism, against capitalism, and we even had a lesbian kiss in ds9, back when it was a big deal, remember?

Yet, I loathe Discovery and Picard, but love Ds9 And TNG

What changed?

The level of condescension... Also the caliber of writers fell through the floor.

Picard and Disco are both as subtle as a brick and, quite frankly, the season long plots result in weary tredmills that you "have" to go through. In Disco's case Burnham becomes Bawwham for nearly 3 seasons in which she blubbers and cries for about ten minutes per episode to show how emotional the whole thing is. It's relentless, in its plot fuckery and gives absolutely zero time to breathe by letting the characters goof off, relax, or otherwise be put in zany situations that are more amusing and give a quick and quiet palette cleanser to. It's why SNW is such a fucking breath of "thank god its back" from its first episode so far and I'm looking forward to todays episode. They've put wit and character back into it with the right balance.

DS9 and TNG have plenty of meta-plot (in the latter seasons of TNG and across all of DS9) to develop its characters and episodes in which not much drama happens or is more aligned with an every day in their lives with something occuring. It lets us reset a bit on the emotional drama and see what these people are like in less stresful/emotional situations. Disco and Picard don't give us that. Partly due to the jankier writing, and partly down to the fact we're on 10-13 episodes per season now which means such "bottle"/slice of life episodes simply don't occur any more

I think the Red Letter Media guys sum it up pretty good here:
Basically the old shows were less heavy handed and made extensive use of allegory.

Also the caliber of writers fell through the floor.
I'm convinced they have only seen the TNG movies, which is why the characters are a hot mess. They don't even understand the basic lore.

I guess this is what happens when the IP is so valuble. It's like asking Michael Bay to direct Twin Peaks.
I'VE GOT FAIIIIIITH OF THE HEARRRRRRRRT
It felt like I was watching Touched by an Angel.

Personally, I like the idea in the future people will be or at least socialized to be professional, more stoic, and less prone to petty dick measuring and meaningless cat fights.

That doesn't mean disagreements won't exist, but just that people will generally work together when called to do so-and stow their personal gripes.

There's a scene in TNG with Worf and Data-where Data chews out Worf for second guessing him (Data was temporary captain), Worf accepts responsibility, Data maintains that while the behavior was unacceptable-they don't have to stop being friends and go back to business.

It's very mature and "advanced" in the sense that Worf doesn't carry a grudge for getting a dressing down, or Data doesn't punish/bully Worf for having challenged/interrupted him.

I'd say more than the "explore new civilizations" aspect-this defined Trek. People were of a higher quality than today, at least by way of socialization and education, if not some fundamental change in human(or sapient) nature.
It's something that's missing not just from Star Trek, but from quite a lot of show in modern times.

You dont even have to go that far, in Trek offical cannon there is lists per class of Ship in the official technical data books for Crew complement normal, Crew complement minimum and a Evacuation limit where the ship is at its maximum capacity for life support and even then they can expand on that a bit but it's considered dangerous to do.

I think the rule of thumb is something like Max crew complement *3 for the class and type for the evacuation limmit.

He's a former trek actor himself only a bit part he's officially credited for but he was also a unnamed extra in a few as well.

Starfleet despite what trekkies say is a military organisation, it might not be one that's always combat orentated but it hast the training, structure, uniforms etc to make it one and one thing military's (well professional ones) instill in people is when the Air to Lead ratio is higer than 0% you drop any personal shit you have going on and get to work as a team you might not like it but it's not just YOU and THE OTHER GUY, you are all one living breathing organism working together, you don't stab yourself in the back by attacking the person you have a problem with or neglecting them you leave that shit to the barracks room if you must do it at all.

I've had proper arguments with people who are close friends and barring one big exeption it normally gets resolved in a few minutes a hand shake and a cup of tea and a fag, no harm no foul just differing oppions but I also know a lot of people who can't do that and will throw away freidnships (or what they call one) over minor petty shit.
Should be able to stack a lot of people into a shuttle. Can't imagine the heat or oxygen would be that much of a trouble. Pretty sure Picard's Enterprise could evacuate a ludicrous number of people.

I'd kill for a good show with a cool organization that seems like an actual organization and not a middle school.

It’s because old trek had more nuance and there were layers to the topics

Nu-Trek has the writers stand on a soapbox and never be subtle with anything
