Imagine you're on the fuck planet, balls deep into the local ladies, and during the act you roll over the flowers with her, and before you know it, she's demanding the death penalty. What a fucked up society.

I mean, that is the point of the episode; it's just incredibly clunky and awkward at communicating that message. Scotty getting accused of murder is a better episode than this one. Justice doesn't have a mystery component to it. We see Wesley commit the crime and the punishment is wildly out of proportion to the act. Ignorance of the law usually isn't an excuse, but that applies to residents of the country they inhabit. Wesley is a foreign national for 15 minutes and if it were later season Picard, he would have raised a diplomatic stink about it and would be willing to "set weapons to maximum"* to enforce Wesley's diplomatic immunity. Then, there's the solution to this episode where they speak to their god and their god agrees, which is literally Deus Ex Machina and it was a shit solution back in Ancient Greece. It may not be Code of Honor, but it's boring to watch.

*Audiences love that phrase.

I think Tripping the Rift parodied this concept with a world where littering is punishable by death.

And Janeway’s like, “Harry… you KNEW the laws about horny flower contact."

They say that but it's also been inconsistent because in Emissary the pilot episode, we see Curzon and Jadzia as they give her the worm and he's still alive.
I realized this was a bit of retconning but it'd be funny to see them move the worm over and he's got this huge tentpole going because of the way he went.

Seems there is a new Trek movie in the pipeline.

EXCLUSIVE: After breathing new life into high-profile IP like the Spider-Man franchise and Dungeons & Dragons, Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are looking to boldly go where no directors have gone before with a popular franchise. Sources tell Deadline that the duo are coming on to write, produce and are attached to direct a new original Star Trek film for Paramount. They will produce under their GoldDay banner.

Will this be good? Who knows, I never heard of these two directors but they're saying it will not be a reboot nor will it be based on anything currently being produced. It will be a whole new story, featuring a new characters and new places not explored so far.

Something new coming out of Hollywood? I have my doubts but here's to hoping for something good that revitalizes the franchise after a decade of garbage.

Then why situate it in the Star Trek universe? Why don’t they come up with a completely new IP that’s cool and interesting and has nothing to do with other shows or movies?

your kidding right? Modern day Hollywood create something new and interesting?

Not a chance. It's got to be recycled goy slop for the masses or woke propaganda. The only place you'll find anything new is in small scale productions which never released on a large scale.

I can't wait for modern Hollywood and it's cancerous nepotism system to die. Hopefully it's corpse makes good fertilizer for a new more free creative system.

I expect nothing and will probably be disappointed anyway. That said, I did rather enjoy the D&D movie, much better than I expected, but I also expected nothing from it.

I completely agree with you in principle, but never ever. We're doomed to this forever. At this point in time it's more likely that you'll be able to wield a technology that'll be able to create such an IP out of thin air than them ever even considering it. That's how it is.

This Vulcan is straight gay.
It's funny how in-her-prime Jeri Ryan would have no chance whatsoever to get as a character into a current show like this, and especially not in the clothes she wore. Even in Picard they just *had* to make her gay to subvert all the expectations and fulfill the prophecy. Once again: You generating Nu-Seven-of-Nine in a literal Magic-AI-Deck is more likely than that ever happening again.

I’m suggesting that they could situate the movie in a new universe not named Star Trek because they’re claiming (below) it won’t have much to do with previous Star Trek flicks. Their concept is over halfway towards something brand new, so why not make the leap to a new IP universe?

Movies now have to be mediocre just so you don’t get mad at them. The ideal movie experience is you walking out like “Did I see a movie? I don’t know. Five stars.”

I can’t wait to forget the Karl Urban MK movie. They already pushed it back to next year, they legit have more confidence in that Springsteen biopic that’s gonna make seven dollars.

One of the most memorable movies I saw last year was Megalopolis. It was an absolute train-wreck but there was something genuinely captivating about seeing someone's singular vision on screen, even if it was a mess. The studio system is just so averse to making gambles that everything we get feels grey.

I knew there was a reason I was rewatching Enterprise. As much of a clusterfuck as ENT was, it still was Star Trek. I'll watch this movie. I doubt it'll be good.

I get people's apprehension, it's not like modern Hollywood has a good track record when it comes to new Trek.

Buuuut...

I felt the exact same when TNG was announced. I thought "how the hell can you do Star Trek without Kirk, Spock and McCoy? It just wouldn't work" but you know the rest. TNG went on to be pretty damn fine Trek. The same goes for DS9, again this had very little to do with TNG aside from Picard showing up in the first episode and O'Brian getting a lead slot.

So a completely new Trek era with whole new list of characters isn't a completely new idea nor is it is a guaranteed failure.

Buuuut...

then again so far everything new has been not just bad but down right terrible. STD is absolute garbage and STA is looking to be even worse...somehow. So my hopes are not high.
