Pour one out for Space Above and Beyond which was also filmed in Australia.

I watched that, I was young but I did really enjoy it as a guilty pleasure. Whatever way you could at that age. I specifically remember when I first saw the trailer for Starship Troopers (before Speed 2 and how the fuck do I remember that detail???), my thought was that it was like they made a Space Above and Beyond movie but better.

A couple days ago I watched the "Miles and Kira have great chemistry" DS9 episode and it felt like Keiko was two seconds away from saying "Miles why don't you just bang Kira it's cool" lol

....Look, I actually like Keiko. People overhate her. But that storyline…

"Oh no, your baby’s in another woman’s womb… anyway Miles you two seem to have chemistry, I’ll be in the arboretum.” :shit-eating:

I'm not really a Star Trek fan and I've never watched any of the popular TV series Star Trek has in its line-up. I decided to give Star Fleet Academy a watch because I was curious about it because Despot was talking about it on his channel. I backed out of watching the video because I wanted a blind reaction to it. Currently I'm on episode 1 and, I don't really have a good frame of reference for Star Trek as a franchise, but:

1. The show is very loud and obnoxious

2. They really love the color yellow for some fucked up reason

3. The acting is really bad. The woman playing as Nahla especially is dismal in terms of performance.

4. Everyone won't stop fucking screaming in the show

Absolute madlad starting with some of the worst television ever made, lol. Okay, there's the rule with Trek: ignore everything made after 2005. There is literally no reason to watch Kurtzman-Trek. None. Unless, of course, you're for some odd insane reason into brain aneurysms and unbearable levels of BIJ.

Meh, it's fun to watch trainwrecks. And I know which ones are good and bad I'm just streaming this one because I do like to take apart and dissect bad media. I also want a frame of reference when I watch the Antrim video.

EDIT: Sorry it wasn't Antrim, it was somebody else.

The orange and teal thing finally crawled into a grave in 2020, but Kurtzman operates on a time delay.

If you were watching literal trainwreck footage, I could understand.
Discovery and Starfleet Academy are always my go-to examples of TV to avoid. At least with bad Star Wars shows you can debate some guy at work named Matt who earnestly defends it.

There’s no visible audience for modern Star Trek, there are no fans, the show always gets renewed anyway.

Yeah I don't really know who this show is for. Nahla was an unlikable character immediately for me because she talks like a fucking wine aunt and she acts like one too. I'm thinking maybe I should take your guys' word for it and just stop here because I'm not even half-way through and I already know the show's going to consistently be this way throughout with no changes.

Except for the Klingon faggot, I don't know any of those people's names. I don't even remember the name of the relatively hot Betazoid. This is how bad this shit is, I simply don't care what'll happen to this set of characters, because they're so unappealing and shallow. This is supposed to be the main cast...

I still watch The Rookie (I’m 90 years old), that dumb cop show where every character actually has something to do. They all seem engaged. They look like they enjoy being there.

Star Trek shows are so uncanny because they’re "an ensemble,” but it’s just everyone standing in a half circle while getting bullied by the showrunner’s friends. It’s not even subtle favoritism.

for those who are new to Sam leaping into John Archer, the point was supposed to be that over the course of the seven year series (because TNG, DS9, VOY, who wouldn't expect it to go for 7?) he would invent being a starfleet captain, thus he's dumber than a sack of crap starting out

Haha yes, Jonathan Archer is just Sam Beckett in a different body...Except of course you’ve just outed yourself as someone whose entire knowledge of Quantum Leap comes from BuzzFeed because Sam can only leap within his own lifetime!

(There was a tie in novel where he tried to fuck his great grandma but it's not canon.)

And the reason why we know it's Jay-den is that it rhymes with Gay-den, the schoolyard insult I would have used back then to describe said faggot. And they make him an embarrassing coward on top of it instead of just a guy that cares about his job. Everyone except Holly Hunter and Robert Picardo is a community college stage actor. These actors don't have the royal jelly big productions demand and probably won't do any better because of this show.

series finale and the unmade anime episode weren't in his lifetime

One more thing I do want to mention, there's one line in this show that stinks of ChatGPT.

"Nobody survives this playing it safe. I'm not being compulsive. It's a strategy."

Didn't Braga talk openly about wanting to go spelunking in a giantess?

That sounds like fanservice. This is just two actors in a car wash rubbing Space Banana Boat on each other.

The other thing I’ve started to notice about Enterprise is how sanitized the wiki is. It's just a parade of upbeat quotes from Braga and the cast. The only time anyone got mad was the finale. It’s so corporate. Old Trek people would at least admit when something sucked.
You should see the cast and producer interviews on the blu rays, it's basically everyone talking shit about the show (more and less subtle) and especially Braga always has this passive-agressive mood going on. Quite a bit of blame goes to the network too.

Also Archer gets better in season 3 onwards, including torturing some nigga inside the airlock, straight out piracy and gaslighting one of the Xindi guys with an elaborate fake scenario just to get the location of the weapon they're looking for.
