I NEED TO SEE HIM NOW! NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW!
Well to be fair that is the actor is acting like Picard who is supposed to be acting like a child for the plan.

Does Rascals count as an O'brien torture episode? Maybe half of one?

I believe it was O'Brian's final episode on TNG before moving over to DS9. That's probably not the way he envisioned going out, being stinkeyed by half the crew for having a 12 year old wife.

Whelp, Jadzia had the most anti climatic death ever. It rubbed me the wrong way so much that I actually looked up why she was killed off and it turned out it was because Rick Berman's a prick. Could have guessed. That being said, Season 6 was fucking amazing. I can't wait to see how 7 unfolds.

Shades of Grey is on my short list of least enjoyable trek episodes of all time.
I'm not even mad at it being a flashback episode because most tv shows have one of those at some point. The plot was just lame: Riker's dying and only bad memories can bring him back! At least it wasn't happy memories, or we were gonna be told that we need to applaud to bring Will back.

If they didn't have enough budget for it and needed to reuse the footage, then make a follow up from Conspiracy and tie it up with the Borg plot (Neutral Zone/Q Who). Picard, after all, killed a Starfleet officer and that granted an invetigation. After they sent their findings on the Borgs to Starfleet, including what they saw that happened in the Neutral Zone, maybe it was a good time to investigate if Picard was a fit Captain to fight them eventually and, once again, asked him to go back to Earth to set their new defences and strategies.

The plot twist was that, Picard was indeed such a good captain, that the Borgs kidnapped him.

Something I read awhile ago, not sure where so take it with a grain of salt:
During season 3 Patrick Stewart was actually considering not renewing his contract. Having him become a Borg in the 2 part episode "The Best of Both Worlds" was something of a Soap Opera Coma moment while they deliberated. Had the contract renewal not occurred Picard would have been either written off the show entirely or else given an irregular role as Locutus and thereby becoming a recurring villain.
However, Stewart did decide to renew his conrtact as TNG was providing a steady paycheck and leaving the show to pursue potential prostpects could have bitten him in the ass financially.

One thing that was considered was giving Picard a permanent Borg prosthetic, specifically I think they mentioned the right arm, to leave a visible reminder of the incident. They ended up scrapping that too.

She really goes out like a bitch :(
And Terri's acting is really iffy the way she wiggles around from that cable, going cross eyed, it's almost laughable.

Really a terrible unfitting end to such a strong character. Thankfully it's hard to stay mad when you see Ezri Dax, almost makes me wish they had done this sooner because we only get one season of Ezri which doesn't give much time to grow and she's even more an interesting take on the Trill; one who was not prepared for this at all.

I liked the swerve of expecting her to die in that one episode but then it's a different one when it happens.

The absolute worst episodes of TNG are all in Season 2:
Shades of Gray - Everyone mentions this one, with good reason. A fucking clip show.
Up the Long Ladder - Dogshit episode about Irish stereotypes and "muh body, muh choice". This was the same writer as "Measure of a Man"‽
The Outrageous Okona - This episode makes me want to put my fist through the TV screen. Data learning to be "funny" from Joe Piscopo is notorious, but the secondary plot about the Gary Stu character Okona is infuriating.

I really don't know what really went on there. The way I remember it is she demanded a ridiculous amount of money or she'd jump ship to Becker. And then she ended up getting herself fired from that show too. Losing two shows like that kind of makes me think maybe she's a problem actress.

You are largely correct and it is why BoBW was written without the conclusion because they didn't know what was going to happen in real life.

To me, not only was it a clip show, (which would have been bad enough on its own,) but it was a clip show exclusively using clips from the two worst seasons of an otherwise better show, and yeah the narrative linking them together was shit as well.

There may be "worse" episodes than Shades of Grey, both of Trek as a whole, or even just TNG, but I can't really think of any pre-jj piece of Trek I'd rather watch again less.

She wanted less air time and to be reduced to a recurring character so she could do both shows. Rick Berman said no and basically gave her an ultimatum that was either all or nothing. Since DS9 was going to end the next year, she went with the money and chose Becker instead (and lasted four seasons on that, the show ended in the 5th). So of course, they wrote her out.

As for Becker, they swear that was a creative decision, not because of the season 3 strike of which she was not the only one involved over a promised pay raise Paramount tried to jew out of.

I don't have the full list, but from what I recall a lot of cast members were considering leaving the show when that episode was made. I think Michael Dorn, Marina Sirtis and Gates McFadden were among them, but don't quote me on that. If you pay attention throughout the episode there's some subtle things that happen to set up some of the more backgroundy characters like Data to have a more prominent role. Additionally there is the sudden introduction of Commander Shelby, who would have definitely taken Riker's place as second officer if they didn't bring Picard back. And whoever her actress was (I'm terrible with names) was acting her ass off too. She took the role really seriously, not like a typical guest star.

Additionally there are various hints throughout the first episode that the Borg attack might shake up the Federation even more than just nuking a bunch of starships at Wolf 359. The writers really had room to change the dynamics of the show any way they wanted from that premise. In some ways I'm glad they didn't because the show could easily have turned into a messy Battlestar Galactica ripoff and eaten shit hard enough to fall into an early grave.

Yeah even as a braindead kid I remember thinking "She's gonna be important!" and then being confused as to why she wasn't in other episodes. I'm assuming her contract didn't work out or maybe her agent made a stupid descision or something, since she seemed to be really prominent in Q Who. Either that or maybe the writer just had a real hardon for her, Star Trek is unfortunately no stranger to that.

Poor Geordie, really can't get laid, they write a character for him and it still didn't work out for him.

Back to the Holodeck, to huh, consult Holo Dr Brahm.
I mean yeah, Geordi... ended up married to the real life woman that he based his former holo lover on in the 'possible' (I'm still going to call it more likely than STP) future from "All Good Things"

From what I understand, if the writers don't like you or can't figure out what to do with you, you eventually get gone. That's what happened to Philip Anglim as Vadek Bareil, the writers didn't feel him and Kira had chemistry or was going anywhere (despite tons of fan feedback to the contrary) and just ultimately didn't want to write the character anymore.

As far as ways off the show, Bareil sure had the worst of it, at least Tasha and Jadzia died more or less instantly, poor Berial got turned into a cyberzombie!
