Aren't they doing a show, I think animate, that's essentially Star Trek: Space Cases where a bunch of kids get stranded in space on a ship?

I remember describing the synopsis I heard as "Star Trek except every character is Wesley"

The probably get Wheaton as the voice of the one adult role since it's all VO and he they don't have to worry about him around the child actors.

You don't notice because it's not even mentioned except once or twice in passing for a joke, when Abraham Licoln calls Uhur a negress for instance. I think you're confusing a progressive show that shows the best of what humanity can be, for the drek that's put out today that is only content to badger you and look down on you for not having the same RL political opinions of writers. It bleeds over into Star Trek Online, too. I was playing the Discovery storyline with my Stunning and Brave tranny character and there's this gay dude on a space station whose dialogue is roughly 90% snark and quips.

"Klingons! We got, like, a LOTTTTT of Klingons coming! If you could, like, take care of them, I'd super appreciate it."

1960s liberalism is practically hard alt right in 2020.
- Starfleet is a meritocracy
- Uniformed service is held in high regard
- Differences between races and cultures are accepted, joked about, even celebrated
- The Federation has no political commissars to police speech or thoughtcrime
- Different races have independent territory where their traditions and manner of living prevail (ethnostates!)
- No one is entirely evil or unworthy of respect, under the right circumstances you could find common ground with Klingons, Romulans, even Khan

To be fair, I doubt many of the actors spend enough time online to know what's the real deal against people who aren't into progressive shit. There are exceptions, sure, but most use twitter superficially or tweet from an echo-chamber. Those with publicists probably hired some millennial danger hair who tells them the kids are all really into social justice. That and if they don't speak about this nonsense, they'll be blacklisted.

I always wondered if that 3D chess game from TOS can actually be played.

Aren't there rules for it? At least some fans made rules, I'd assume.

It's a bit of a problem. You want some distinct looking games and taking chess to another dimension is a neat idea, but it's more of a design choice than a logical evolution of chess.

I remember seeing multiple versions of rules for it over the years in quasi-official books like the Technical Manuals. In the 90's you could even order an expensive replica set from catalogs that I presume came with a rulebook.

The long and short version of it is that the TOS version very clearly had no rules. If you pay attention to the episodes involving that chess board, you'll notice all of the pieces are distinct and mostly the same color of chrome. The game quite literally has no rules, and it just functions as a device for the character to be doing something while they talk. Its actually handled pretty well in the second pilot, where Spock is astonished that Kirk beats him even though it didn't seem like Kirk was focusing on the game at all. Which is something that's actually somewhat difficult to pull off in any game of pure skill. There were a few episodes that used conventional chess pieces instead of the custom jobs though.

From the 60s-80s there were various attempts at 3D Chess to middling results. I own a vintage one known as Space Chess I never really got the hang of. As part of the TNG merchandising campaign they did finally release an official Star Trek 3D chess set, which its creator called "a cheap piece of shit". Which if you get one good look at it on Board Game Geek, you'll probably be inclined to agree, I imagine the rules are about as flimsy as the boards.

Shogi is a Japanese chess-like game. All the pieces are the same color. Ownership is denoted by the direction they are oriented. Captured pieces "change sides."

Odds are the set dressers in Star Trek just screwed up, but there are examples of board games where all the pieces are the same color.

It's because the future they presented were laudable goals to everyone. And, smartly, they KEPT IT VAGUE. Can you imagine if Kirk had said to some alien "back on our world in the 21st century, the governments seized the means of production, which produced this utopia".

TNG really was full of ideas that went nowhere and never were brought up again, I've been rewatching it after rewatching DS9 so many times I felt like TNG and I wanted to see if I could still enjoy Picard after Star Trek Picard, and I can, but it saddens me what happened to such a great character.

Anyway:

.....Is never mentioned again and isn't invited to his wedding.

Just finished Season 2 of Enterprise, I actually enjoyed it. The series so far is really bringing forward my latent hatred of Vulcans though, which I think is the intent.

Thought it was badass how Enterprise flat out merc'd Duras' Bird of Prey fucking twice in the season finale.

I never watched much Enterprise so I never got to S3, or when I caught it on TV when I was airing I wasn't paying much attention to the opening.
