Those warp nacelles are awful, if they were attached right on and this was like the Enterprise-D with the section on the back having been separated then it could be alright I think. The only thing in my mind that does anything to help this is something that can dock and undock, maybe a section capable of landing on a planet and being able to act as a long term land base.

I also came to say that The Doctor telling his pretend son that he can't have Klingon friends and should hang out with Vulcans instead is amazing.

Holy fuck that looks like utter trash....how in the fuck does it even work???

Also, a Janeway class ship??!??!?!? Why the fuck would Starfleet ever name a starship after fucking Janeway?? Her only accomplishment was getting her crew stranded for years and breaking every Starfleet regulation in the process of getting home.

Because the Force is fem---- I mean because of diversity, bigot. Strong female Captain that don't need no man.

Who said it was named after Kathryn Janeway? Maybe it was named after this Janeway, or this one. Maybe it's named after one of her children.

So there was fun to be had, but I think the show had too much going against it and never really found its footing. Season 4 started to become the show I was hoping for with the formation of the Federation being a central focus, but by then, it was probably too little too late.
Season 3 had potential if it was the start of the Earth Romulan War. Like, what if a Vulcan-looking ship Allahu Ackbar-ed Florida (becuz 9/11) and Forrest has Archer investigate. Initial doubt falls on T'Pol, but she insists that it's just not logical for it to be Vulcans. Trip and Malcolm investigate the crash site and find weird energy signature readings that don't quite match Vulcan engineering specs. T'Pol then provides specs on the ship design to definitely prove the difference between Vulcan and Romulan tech, hinting at a possible splinter cell of Vulcans. Suspicion is thrown off her for the time being as Earth decides that the Enterprise lead an expeditionary fleet to find the rogue Vulcans and that's how Earth builds its own alliances with Andoria and Tellar. Which we sort of get in season 4, but not often or consistent enough.

That, and I want to see Archer fire nuclear torpedoes in every space battle. Dump nuclear waste everywhere.
Q wasn't even supposed to be there, Roddenberry grafted him on when they got more time for the pilot. But I don't think "Detective Picard solves the mystery of Farpoint Station" would've been very good on its own, either. Nothing says excitement and wonder like a middle-aged woman and her teenage son buying bolts of cloth while their boss investigates a mysterious bowl of fruit.
I dunno, people asking questions about how this poor society that drills magma for energy could work. The Bendii were very underwritten in this story and they're the antagonists. A thorough investigation into their society and desperation to become a Fed trade member would make them more memorable.

I think we've probably dogpiled on @40 Year Old Boomer enough about Q, but I do think it's funny that "mysterious omnipotent alien" irks you when at least half of all TNG episodes end in a deus ex machina of technobabble.
I'm just giving my admittedly unpopular opinion and getting downdoots doesn't bother me. That said, I'll still take any Q episode over the "best" Wesley episode any day of the week.

reminds me of the protodesigns of the Voyager, only shit

regarding TNGS1 I've found a lot more fun from it in later years in it and to a lesser extent S2 going through it with an eye for "what Phase II concept was this repurposed from", like most of Data being "gosh you humans are just so nifty!" looking like redressed shtick originally meant for Xon

IIRC six of the S2 episodes are literally recycled Phase II scripts, including the season premiere.

This legit looks like an Unreal Tournament map from 1999.
But it's nice of Mulgrew that she gave it a shoutout nonetheless.

In terms of S1 TNG... Some people consider Breaking Bad S1 to be subpar. When this show was recommended to me by various people, they all said I'd just have to sit through S1 and it becomes better in S2. Couldn't quite understand, cause I liked it from the very first episode onwards, but still. BB is considered one of the finest TV shows of all time and even there, people have qualms with the first season.

When it comes to TNG, yeah, S1 is wonky as fuck, but it has sort of a cheesy appeal and it seems more like an appetizer to the main dish, that comes along throughout S2.
Without S1, TNG might have a better start, but I like to think of S1 as sort of the link between TOS and TNG propper, that connects classic TOS cheese with modern TNG sci-fi.
